not at all. no complaints from Khan at the time either. no need to prolong the punishment at that stage of your career
Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
No,it was only going one way for Khan
The man knew he would get stopped, thats why he never signed the paper years ago

Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
It was early although looked like it was only going one way. Khan looked totally shot and could barely take a punch.
At least he didn't get badly hurt but he was never even knocked down.

No, he was going to get seriously hurt
Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
Great stoppage that. Nice to see it in a British ring!
Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
He was getting pummelled, fair stoppage IMO.
Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
Fair stoppage, his legs had gone a few times and it was becoming target practice
Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
Bit early for me it's boxing it's meant to be a fight and Khan was still defending himself.
It's not an exhibition after all.

This is my view. Imagine if Victor Laughlin had refereed Ali/Frazier 1 or 3? Matthew Saad Muhammad came back from worse to win multiple times.
If you're a squeamish boxing fan perhaps stick to watching amateurs?

If it was a competitive fight, I’d agree. But it was pretty much a one-sided beat down.Billy Tully wrote: ↑19 Feb 2022, 20:02This is my view. Imagine if Victor Laughlin had refereed Ali/Frazier 1 or 3? Matthew Saad Muhammad came back from worse to win multiple times.

Once Brook knew Khan couldn’t hurt him and he already had him wobbled from round 1, it was going one way. Was just a matter of time.

Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
Slightly early for me.
Khan's a light puncher who, as everyone knows, relies on speed and 12-round fitness. He was alert enough to be looking for every opportunity to clinch (rushing at Brook, even) and covered when forced upright, and had he tried countering he'd have been wide open to a massive KO. My impression was that he knew this and was trying to ride out the round, in the slim hope of Brook blowing himself out enough to creep back into it after the break.
If Khan were a puncher I'd say it was perfectly timed, and since he had such a low chance of avoiding more punishment I've no complaints with it. He was saved for his own good, which is good!
But in his shoes, yeah, I can see why he was on his bike, and tactically I think that was his best bet, so I'd have given him as long as I could. One more leg-wobbler and I'd have stopped it, just not when he had his gloves up ready for the next punch, in desperate trouble but aware of his situation.

see id be the opposite, if he were some serious puncher i might actually be more sympathetic to letting it continue, given how quickly power can change a fight. but khan had nothing of the sort to turn it, was coping a hiding, and was going to continue getting battered like he was being served on a fish n chips platter

Spot on in my opinion. Amir had spent the whole round desperately trying to avoid Kell’s onslaught and throwing nothing back

Re: Khan stoppage: Premature?
It's tricky because none of us would've bet a penny on Khan turning the tide, but he's widely regarded as someone who only reverses fights with attrition rather than powershots, and as much as he was getting bundled around, he was blocking the majority of Brook's shots. Had his wits, if not his legs.
So I think it depends on whether you'd let it go a bit longer as a favour to him, knowing he's at the end of his career and adopting — for him — the best approach. But then he didn't criticise it after, so all's well...
I just think he'd made a very clear decision to tie Brook up as much as possible to get to the break, and at the exact time of the stoppage wasn't any more hurt than he had been for the previous, what, 30 seconds? The tipping point hadn't been reached, ending after a blocked punch.

Yes but it was only going one way. Brook wasn't landing at the time of stoppage so you cant be stopping that for me at the time but it was only going to end that way

No.
It was going one way and was only going to get worse for Khan, The ref did the right thing.
