That's the crux, innit. Wait until Khan's getting hammered, or preempt it.

It's almost certainly better for his long-term health, but as a rule I don't like refs stopping fights during relative lulls. We've all seen plenty of fights where serious damage could've been averted this way, and it's sensible to place that above the odd comeback, but it needs to be a clear new international standard.

Because I think some fighters are affected by refs more than others, and the bikers especially need to know how long their rope is.

if khan had actually shown much in the way of being able to shut brook's offense down with the movement and tying up that's being mentioned, then i'd be more agreeable to that. or if he'd been a puncher and shook brook previously and hence showed a potential to transform the fight. as it was, he was getting beaten up and showed nothing in the way of slowing it down or turning it around............so not a stoppage i can find problematic really

khan also complained hard when he was stopped vs garcia, i have no doubts if he'd really had any desire to go on he would've made a fuss, but instead he accepted it as if it were welcomed

Great stoppage. Nothing coming back. Khan had took a beating by that point.

Think knowledge of the fighter helped the ref make the right decision. 35 years old...had already been rocked 4 or 5 times in the fight...long career of taking big shots/bad knockouts...his offence was basically nullified at that point. Time to call it in.

Excellent stoppage. No sadism involved just a compassionate ref

Technically yes, because Khan wasn't hit clean particularly at the moment of the stoppage, he was trying to cover up and move away instead of eating punches, yet it's just known, that Khan is brittle, so the bigger punishment would come anyway.

also it was a fight for nothing really, except some social media beef. no belt, title up for grabs. just two (to varying degrees) shot fighters in their mid thirties who'd organised a final big bucks payday.

if both were younger and a title was on the line, an argument could be made it was premature. or put another way, maybe Khan would have complained about it at the time.

imagine if victor didn't jump in khan could have seriously been wiped out and you'll have the same people complaining about jumping in too late from 4 you really could feel a serious ko was coming , fair play to khan must have been in excellent condition to survive as he did and didn't complain once he knew he was being saved

That's why it had sense. Two good, but shabby fighters, both with about the same circumstances around them. Still for me it wasn't intriguing, because being past prime is worse for Khan than for Brook, since Khan has to hide his fragility with reflexes. Anyway, the fight was fun to watch.

IT doesn't help that it was a weak card where all of the home fighters won early.
Obv Brook was in complete control but he put a lot of work into getting to Khan early and it would have been good to see what would have happened if Khan had got through it and Brook faded.
Realistically Brook would have got to him first, but the PPV watchers didn't get that chance.

I wouldn't say it was early but it did come slightly out of the blue but no complaints, Khan was getting rocked by anything that landed clean and stood up to some big shots that you'd have thought would've put him down, he boxed well in spurts but Brook's power was the difference, it just offset any of Khan's work, there were no complaints when the ref jumped and that's always a telling sign

It was a compassionate stoppage. Khan was done for, he wasn't turning that fight around.

Early for me - though no real complaints.

I wouldn't have stopped it for a title fight as, at the time, Brook wasn't landing. Khan was hurt, no doubt, but he was covering up and doing a reasonable job of staying away.
Of course it wasn't a title fight, but a main event PPV is pretty much the same.

Good stoppage. As people have mentioned it was pretty much a nothing fight. Just an aged rivalry and payday for both lads.

Khan was being blitzed and had no answer. All his previous strengths/weapons were simply no longer there to try and change the tide, and he didn't complain when it was waved off.

Perfect stoppage, Khan too brave for his own good. He was prepared to be sparked cold again rather than give up so pleased the referee jumped in to stop that happening. It was a lost cause by then for Khan.

Barely threw a punch in the entirety of the previous round as well.

So whilst the stoppage denied viewers the opportunity to see a knockdown and knockout if you look at it from a referee's perspective Khan had long enough to show if he was going to get himself out of trouble.

Given everything Khan did to handicap Brook, and how long he made him wait, only finally taking the fight because he thought Kell was an easy mark ready for the taking, I think the Special One had earned a climactic finish.

I HATE this modern trend of A sides being allowed to disadvantage B sides with all the stipulations, it's legalised cheating, and I don't have any sympathy for them when they lose.

That’s not really his job though is it?

It’s the safety of the fighters.

Khan took a lot of good shots from Brook but never got dropped. It was gonna come though eventually the way things were going.

Good stoppage. Amir would have kept going until he was carried out. One of our bravest ever fighters. Those types need saving from themselves. Showed his impressive character post-fight too. Great performance by Brook.

Adam Azim looked good and you Rea is doing well.

Rest of the card was poor.

The world has changed with 'events' and people wanting to be seen to be at 'events'. They could almost charge people £50 to go into the arena for 5 minutes, take a selfie and film the arena, let them update their status, and then kick them out and they'd still feel like they'd got their money's worth. No need to show them any boxing. They'll be living on Pot Noodles next week but at least they were at the 'event'.
