Klitschko Brothers Take Up Arms

Post by Frostieballs »

From the Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022 ... or-ukraine

Former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko said he would take up arms alongside his brother and fellow world beater, Wladimir, to fight in a “bloody war” following Russia’s invasion of their home country Ukraine.

Russia launched its invasion by land, air and sea on Thursday. An estimated 100,000 people have fled as explosions and gunfire rocked major cities. More than 100 have been reported killed.

Vitali Klitschko, who has been the mayor of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, since 2014, said he was ready to fight.

“I don’t have another choice, I have to do that. I’ll be fighting,” the 50-year-old, known as Dr Ironfist during his boxing days, told broadcaster ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

Vitali Klitschko said Kyiv was under threat and the main priority was to work with police and military forces to support critical infrastructure, including the delivery of electricity, gas and water for its citizens.

He said civilians were ready to defend Kyiv as soldiers.

“I believe in Ukraine, I believe in my country and I believe in my people,” Vitali Klitschko said.

Former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko enlisted in Ukraine’s reserve army earlier this month, saying that love for his country compelled him to defend it.

“The Ukrainian people are strong. And it will remain true to itself in this terrible ordeal. A people longing for sovereignty and peace. A people who consider the Russian people their brothers,” he wrote in a post on Thursday.

“It knows that they basically do not want this war. The Ukrainian people have chosen democracy.

“But democracy is a fragile regime. Democracy cannot defend itself; it needs the will of the citizens, the commitment of everyone. Basically, there is no democracy without democrats.”

Vitali is just another corrupt politician. And generally for the post-soviet people he's more of a stand-up comedian. It's easy to "take up arms" in this position or when your country house is in Germany. I wonder, if Wlad has ever tried to reside permanently out of Germany, after he had settled a career there.

Hes the mayor in Kiev, to imply he doesn't live there is daft. Imagine uk was under attack like Ukraine is, I wouldn't put too much money on many UK fighters both current or retired taking up arms to defend. The brothers should be applauded for fighting against the tyranny of putin not lambasted for it.

What a naive airhead. The two sisters won't fight anybody. Obviously, Vitali lives in Kiev now, yet only silly people would admire him. He's another corrupt politician and can't even connect two words in public.

Unless Putin's fighting against the tyranny of NATO and the West? In which case Vitali is a western interest puppet?

According to the article. Wladimir has actually enlisted with the reserves.

He can’t join the full army straight away, so best he could do.

I hear Usyk has headed home as well.

From pics on social media; it looks like Usyk is in Kyiv, and Vitali is proper on the front line of the city.

Those standing against Russia in Ukraine will be like lambs to the slaughter unfortunately. The Russians won`t be slightest bit concerned about collateral damage or civilians. Only hope is that the Russian troops refuse to kill their former comrades and oust Putin instead.

Jesus Christ Almighty God bless and protect the Klitschko brothers and Usyk. The whole of Europe if not the world has not been in such dire straits since 1945.

Agreed. Pretty special act of bravery that would be.. no doubt those who love Harry would expect him to have done this too :OhYes:

It's extraordinary to think that the Royal PR machine regarding the younger Royals military service has people gullible enough to believe it nowadays

Yes Harry went out to Afghanistan; and yes the military were very unhappy about it. Not because of the miniscule risk it placed Harry at - but at the risk it placed the very big security team entourage guarding him .. not something they wanted to add additional resources to protecting.
