Ray Mercer vs David Tua

Post by DrDuke »

Both in prime, 12 rounds.

I see it as a slugfest. Both were hard-hitting, durable, well-chinned and not afraid of engaging. I'd pick Mercer by 116-112 dec. Mercer had more tools as a boxer.

How do you see this fight going?

I like Tua by a clear decision. But, it's a good fight.

I'd go for Mercer too via points.....he had himself a reach/height advantage against Mr. Stumpy and a hard jab and was not always about the war.

Ray loved a good bash-up but could have kept Tua honest with a hard, straight jab and was plenty strong enough to drag Tua into a clinch and stop him firing or shove him off as well.

Mercer's superior jab, and ability to do more than just brawl gives him the edge on points I think. They'd be fighting on even terms when they slugged it out, but when they needed a breather, and fought at an easier pace. Mercer's jab would carry him through those rounds, and I think he'd pull off a close one.

He wouldn't lose all the slugging rounds either.

Depends which Mercer shows up, this is a tough one.
Probably give Ray the edge.

You could say "Depends which version shows up" about both of them. They both were a little inconsistent.

Tua was small.
See him against Lennox.

He was short for a Heavyweight. He wasn't small.

This hypothetical is Very hard to predict.
I think that it could go either way.
116-112 or 115-114 for one or the other.
Maybe even a 115-115 114-114 115-113 MD(A Draw)
They would've definitely put on a good show for the fans.
If they'res just one man that could've decked Mercer, I'd definitely say that "David Tua" would've had the best chance, with Lewis being a close 2nd candidate to pull off that type of Feat, which he didn't in they're first bout, but maybe could've in a 2nd bout vs Mercer, as Lewis was typically better/improved in 2nd bout scenarios.
