Tony Lopez vs Danny Lopez

Post by AngryGoon38 »

At 130. 12 rounder.

Danny Almost moved up to 130, right after the 1979 Mike Ayala bout,in which he won by Ko in the 15th round, in a Very grueling and punishing effort. Also,he was considering retirement already, right after that particularly grueling battle.
So being that Danny decided that he'd carry on for awhile longer, promoters and boxing managers were discussing various option scenarios.

I think that Danny was obviously starting to have extra difficulty making 126 by that point, thus why they were giving him the possible option of getting a title bout at 130, which would've been vs Samuel Serrano, or going ahead with moving Way Up to 135, for a BIG Money Showdown vs the Reigning WBC LW Champ,Alexis Arguello, or the lesser challenge of WBA LW champ Jim Watt. These were Indeed The discussions, at least according to "Rich The Fight Historian".
I think that I personally Will take Rich's word for it,as he Does seem to be a Quite Reputable source.

It's Obviously Very Unfortunate that after Ko'ing "Jose Caba" in 3 rounds, a few months after the Mike Ayala battle, Danny decided to continue onwards with his Title-Reign at 126. And obviously, his management had No Clue about the Highly Formidable abilities of a then relatively unknown, but obviously Highly Dangerous "Salvador Sanchez", who somehow and someway was Chosen to be the opponent for Danny's 9th title defense, in February of 1980. It's quite rather baffling when you consider that Sanchez was only ranked 10th amongst the top 10 contenders at that time.

In this day and age, "Danny Lopez" would've most certainly Not have been put into that type of Wrong Styles based challenge.
It Was Obviously a totally and completely different Type of era though. Pipino Cuevas wouldn't have been put in with a Tommy Hearns type in this modern era either. Different times, for Sure and Certain. Floyd avoided Paul Williams, out of common sense and businessman based internal savy. You can be plenty Sure and Certain that Floyd Was Definitely shown these various Bad Style Matches/Bouts,Which Just simply Ultimately Ruined plenty of Champs back in the day.

So then, with all of this said/pointed out, how then would've Danny Lopez fared against the Challenge of Tony The Tiger Lopez, if say, they were campaigning at A simultaneous time-frame..? This is supposing that Danny Lopez would've chosen to vacate his 126 belt and moved onto 130 to face a Fierce And Gutsy Contender in Tony the Tiger Lopez, for, say, a WBO sanctioned vacant title bout Showdown,at 130. Danny if properly managed could've just agreed with a clever management team who concluded, Ahhhm,Yeah, No, we ain't fighting that Sanchez fellow. Leave him for Serrano at his own possible move to 130, or let em take on Arguello at 135, For Ultimate Glory ! :geek:

If all of this alternate dimension based scenario were to go down and take place, then I would most definitely say that Lopez vs Lopez would've Most Certainly became one of the Most Highly Prolific 3 bout trilogies in the History of Boxing.
I see Danny winning the first bout, by a razor thin decision, then Tony doing likewise in the 2nd bout, then in a 3rd bout, I think that Tony would've won that one, and a bit more decisively than the 2nd bout, and then Danny would've just retired after that 3rd bout, with enough money set aside to Not have to work Construction jobs after retiring from Boxing.

Little Red was able to hurt who he hit and Lopez wasn't known for being Sanchez Slick. He was tough and could punch. I think Little Red might go down once maybe twice but rallies for a late 12 tko

I could definitely see the possibility of that type of outcome.
D. Lopez vs T. Lopez would've been a highly thrilling and entertaining Epic Level Scrap, regardless of the ending outcome !
Definitely very likely would've been an ideal potential trilogy scenario, with these 2 Fan-Pleasing styled Warriors going at it. :box: :bag:

Awesome fight. I also would pick Tony Lopez by decision. I don't think Danny had the style to beat him
