Taylor
Taylor
Thinking about it Taylor was awful last night ,, i personaly had big raps on Taylor watching him come along i was quite impressed with him ,,, but that fight what happenned ,, was he weight drained , was it bad prep , or did he just not have a clue what and how to do against another southpaw ... first thing i noticed was his distancing or lack of it ,, he simply walked in a straight line wanted to get right on top before he threw a shot , he left himself wide open for counters , he just looked bad , there was no fluid movement , he telegraphed what he was going to do
What do you think it was , personaly i think its the months of working with a big headed boxercise trainer , who was shite in the corner by the way

Re: Taylor
taylor is tested enough that we know he's a for real elite fighter. maybe a combo of being off (struggling at the weight?), catt being better than we thought, and a tricky style for him
his punch resistance looked off too, i dont think catt is a bigger puncher than the likes of prograis, baranchyk or ramirez or davies

Maybe Jack is good? A lot of very knowledgeable people really rate him.coneye wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 01:47 Thinking about it Taylor was awful last night ,, i personaly had big raps on Taylor watching him come along i was quite impressed with him ,,, but that fight what happenned ,, was he weight drained , was it bad prep , or did he just not have a clue what and how to do against another southpaw ... first thing i noticed was his distancing or lack of it ,, he simply walked in a straight line wanted to get right on top before he threw a shot , he left himself wide open for counters , he just looked bad , there was no fluid movement , he telegraphed what he was going to do

Re: Taylor
He didn't cope at all fighting a fellow southpaw. The change in the usual angles, and Catterall also giving him a smaller target meant punches that he would usually land for fun (jab, back hand) he couldn't establish. All his hooks were landing to the back of the head or back of the body when usually they'd land on the lower rib.
Catterall picked him off in the way in, hands looked faster and more accurate. Then he got himself out of bother, without being greedy and staying in there. Taylor has never been that hard too hit, going way back to the amateurs.
If you can get your jab landed then you can't land anything else as a result.

I don't think we know he's an elite fighter at all. Put it this way, how many elite 140 pounders in history would you take him against? I'm not sure I'd even take him against Khan when he was at that weight.
Could he compete with Miguel Cotto? I could go on. He's got a disputed close win over prograis to his name really. And how good is prograis? Im not sure I'd take these guys against good proven 140 pounders.

Re: Taylor
A combination of things. I’m personally never a fan of these sort of ‘homecoming’ events in boxing, as I think it subconsciously might make the home fighter a bit complacent and overlook his opposition. I also don’t rate Davison, although as per usual Sky gave us little insight into the corner work, so not sure exactly what he was saying between rounds.
I did used to really rate Catterall, although had nearly forgotten how much until last night, because his career has been so dull for the last few years. As someone mentioned on the RBR, he seems to be one of those guys who pretty much fights at the level of his opponent.

Re: Taylor
He must carry a lot of the blame , His lack of spotting the problem in sparring months ago , and his lack of direction for Taylor to go in when plan A obviously was'nt working shows Davidson is getting the top jobs because of who he knows and is associated with has opposed to being good at his job ,, Bit like some of the refs

Re: Taylor
he was #1 in the world in the weightclass, clearly among the best of the very best in the world at 140 right now, which classifies him as elite for me. i'm not judging him compared to greats from other times like cottoTheLeprechaun wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 04:25margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 01:48 taylor is tested enough that we know he's a for real elite fighter. maybe a combo of being off (struggling at the weight?), catt being better than we thought, and a tricky style for him

we know beyond any doubt that taylor is more than capable of beating world ranked guys and totally mashing up euro level ones. its not someone who got wildly overrated beating up cans. there was plenty of proven form for making him a big fave in this fight vs a guy whose best result was probably a squeaker vs ohara davies - a guy taylor did a far more convincing job on

Re: Taylor
Don't forget how bad Taylor looked in Vegas going into camp. He looked fat. I don't think he's lived the life since winning undisputed. I don't think he was injured either causing the postponement.

Re: Taylor
His work was rushed, there was no set up. It continued every round.
The way Taylor fought, it seemed as though he thought it was a case of rolling into Catteral and getting him out of there early and that was how his mind was set.
I do believe there is a gulf in class between the two, but when one has the arrogance and lack of respect like this, then these fights can pan out in favour of the opponent very quickly.

Re: Taylor
No doubt Taylor struggles at weight like most boxers but I'm not having the cut being blamed on his performance, his engine was his most impressive asset last night along with his chin, 2 of the telling factors in being drained, he was just sh1t and got schooled in there, Catterall was exceptional
Re: Taylor
I always felt Taylor was overrated and he kept proving me wrong. I thought he lost vs Prograis but it was a good display. He also impressed me vs Postol and Ramirez when i thought he'd lose those fights.
Last night he came up well short though and I don't see him as world title material at 147.

Doesn’t sound like Taylor would be more than 50/50 against Brook.

Think Brook would hit him a lot harder than he got hit last nightpolecateddy wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 08:46 Doesn’t sound like Taylor would be more than 50/50 against Brook.
Re: Taylor
That would be a really interesting fight. Would Taylor be strong enough at welter? Is cutting to 10st killing him so?coneye wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 10:04Think Brook would hit him a lot harder than he got hit last nightpolecateddy wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 08:46 Doesn’t sound like Taylor would be more than 50/50 against Brook.
And for Brook fighting a Taylor is much different to fighting Khan.
Saying that if Taylor is moving up, he will lose his titles so it would be much better to go straight into the Crawford fight.

Wouldn’t he make nearly as much fighting Brook? Surely Crawford would be a large step too far.Coco wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 10:09That would be a really interesting fight. While it would be PPV here, two undefeated, undisputed champs in the states on American PPV would generate much more.polecateddy wrote: ↑27 Feb 2022, 10:14Wouldn’t he make nearly as much fighting Brook? Re: Taylor
He should probably find some humility and not be so deluded in thinking he won the fight for a start.
If he can't accept criticism and real, honest assesment how can he improve and better himself?
I liked the way Taylor was going about his business a few years back, but in recent years his attitude seems to have shifted. An air of entitlement and cockiness, probably given the heaps of praise he's had and no doubt surrounded by yes men.
Last night should have been a wake up call, but he didn't see it that way, and that's not good when he wants to step up to a division with really elite fighters at the top.
