Demetrius Andrade vs. Zach Parker might not happen says Eddie Hearn!

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Demetrius Andrade vs. Zach Parker might not happen says Eddie Hearn"

“Each individual fight has an individual value,” said Hearn. “That [$1.75m bid] was the individual value for a fight, to be honest with you, it’s not even a big fight,” said Eddie in knocking the Demetrius vs. Zach Parker match.

“We like the route because it’s an interim title, and the winner of that fight can fight someone else and then could become mandatory for Canelo Alvarez,” Hearn said of the Demetrius vs. Parker match.

“So now we have the decision on do we take that fight [Parker] or do we take another fight? That’s what Demetrius Andrade is going to have to decide.

“Look, let me make one thing clear. Demetrius Andrade against Zach Parker in America, I’m sorry, is NOT a big fight. But there is a route that could make sense for us to go down that route. That’s why I bid for it.

“At that level you can’t go to Demetrius Andrade, do you want to take ‘x’ [amount] to take the fight. Demetrius [had] what, a $1.2 million purse for fighting Zach Parker?

He’s been earning more money to defend his world title, and it’s not a world championship fight. It’s an interim [WBO 168-lb title].

“Unfortunately, that was the value that I felt that fight had. I can’t be more honest than that, so we’ll see what happens,” said Hearn.

I’ve repeatedly claimed that I doubt that Demetrius Andrade will agree to take the Zach Parker bout, because it’ll result in him taking a significant pay cut from his usual $1.5m payday.

And Eddie Hearn has seemingly confirmed that I was correct in being sceptical.

It appears that Demetrius Andrade will be vacating his WBO world middleweight title to avoid facing his mandatory challenger, Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

And for what?

Matchroom hasn’t recently made any serious attempts to orchestrate bouts for Andrade against the likes of Charlo, Benavidez and Parker!

Therefore, this begs the obvious questions? If Demetrius rejects the Parker bout, which seems likely, then who will his next opponent be? And what weight division will he be competing in?

Yep.
I won't be disappointed if I never see Andrade in the ring again.

Make Andrade vs Ryder! Hearn should make Ryder a good offer to fight Andrade. :box:

Ryder beat Callum and Jacobs.

i wonder how much Ryder will have gone up in the rankings following Jacobs win,
maybe Ryder Andrade could be an Eliminator for another Org (from memory wasn’t it WBA Ryder was highest in ?)

The problem with Hearn, is that he talks about potential big-names for Andrade, but talk is cheap, since he doesn't actually submit offers (i.e. mentioning Benavidez's name to distract people from the Zach Parker purse bid, and also discussing Charlo, to distract people from the Zhanibek Alimkhanuly purse bid).

Also, John Ryder is already ahead of Andrade in the Canelo mega-payday queue.

I just don't think John Ryder needs Demetrius Andrade.

Boo Boo is also near the end of his deal with Matchroom. And I don't think Eddie Hearn will renew it.

Then Boo Boo should move at 175 and fight Zurdo Ramirez-who is another fighter that has no marquee fight on his resume. :OhYes: :box:

News just in: Andrade has formally agreed to take a pay cut to face Zach Parker.

No quotes or anything. This has been reported by Boxing Scene.

Eddie Hearn today announced that Matchroom will no longer work with Demetrius Andrade after the Zach Parker bout.

Eddie Hearn said that “[Andrade] hasn’t been in the fights that have been delivering for us; we haven’t been delivering the big fights to him.”

It was an astonishingly easy thing to predict, which I obviously did a month ago.

If Demetrius Andrade decides to remain at 168lbs after the Parker bout, then he’ll have no promoter and he’ll no longer be a world titleholder.

Why would anybody want to work with or fight someone like Andrade if he’s in his mid-thirties, commercially unpopular and also brings nothing to the negotiation table (since he won’t own a meaningful title)?

I think Hearn is making it clear to Andrade that if he wants to stay with Matchroom it will be on less money than he’s on now.

That’s what happens, when you pay someone $2m-$3m a fight to fight a bum, you get used to that amount..

And then a more riskier fight, you’re gonna want more.

Anyone know Breadman from BS? Here is what he had to say about Andrade"

Bread’s Response: I think Andrade is an excellent fighter. Extremely talented and difficult which is a hard mix to compete against. Unfortunately for him, his promotion and management just have not found out a way to get him position to be a great fighter.I’m not blaming anyone because I honestly don’t know who’s at fault. But it is their responsibility to figure it out. Andrade has 31 fights, he’s 34 years old and he’s been a pro for almost 14 years and he has yet to defeat a legitimate ex or current world champion. The closest thing was Jack Culcay for a WBA regular belt.

It’s hard to be a HOF if your resume is that shallow and I’m on record to say that Andrade has been ducked. This is not me blaming him. But his resume just doesn’t have enough meat on it to be a HOF resume. Let’s just see how the rest of his career plays out. He still has time but the window is closing.

I was honestly hoping he fought Janibek Alimkhanuly because it’s obvious Jaime Munguia’s team didn’t want to fight him and the media really respects Janibek. Janibek is a hard, hard fight but I don’t know if giving up the belt was the way, if in fact he did give it up. Andrade is the type of fighter who needs his titles. You even brought them up. So if he goes to 168lbs and can’t get a title shot, he’s a fighter with no belt chasing Canelo who’s at 175 at this moment. Janibek is an excellent fighter but I think him vs Andrade is a 50/50 fight. I don’t know if Andrade will be as effective at 168lbs. Those guys are Free Safeties in the NFL. I know he’s trying to make something happen but for a fighter like him to give up his belt is just tough or allow an interim champion, especially if he has to wait for a title shot in the next division is….. .

Canelo is not the type of fighter that sanctioning bodies are eager to STRIP. And Canelo doesn’t seem to like Andrade so therefore he probably won’t give him the pay day. Canelo would be the favorite to beat Andrade but we can’t give him credit for doing something that he hasn’t done yet. Andrade is a tough fight for anyone. It’s a reason why he can’t get fights.

I read his mailbag a lot, and have huge respect for his knowledge.

There is a big difference, if you are honest with yourself, about stating "facts" about a certain boxer you like or don't like.

I'm not a big fan of Canelo, and could post all of the negative facts I can find, leaving out positive ones, or not telling the full story. My intent would be to make him look bad. The whole truth puts a different light on things. We all need to be advocates of the sport, instead of in one breath saying you love the sport and in the next breath tearing it apart accusing ducks, corruption, etc. I'm guilty of saying things against boxers at times, but usually it's retaliatory in nature.

Andrade should do this fight for free... Let alone getting paid well for it.
168lb is probably the division Canelo will settle back to. If you can win a 168 interim, they will have to make that real eventually. Then when Canelo comes back you have a belt. Andrade isn't getting a Canelo fight without something, this is the something.

Plus every other fighter near 168 knows that, so if your brave enough to fight good 168ers you should be able to get those fights holding onto a peice of the puzzle, he won't without it.

Unless Canelo gets a cruiser belt, all the 175s then just drops all belts to avoid sanctions and just fights beltless, what id actually like him to do, be above the belts.

canelo undisputed at 168 is old news. dude is doing ggg 3, which i dont really like but i guess is still the biggest money fight. but aside from that should go for undisputed at 175 and do some cruiser work before anything else 168 again

bivol up first, then seems like he's fighting ggg after that. based on comments from his trainer, seems like they'd aim for makabu at the end of the year. if that all goes as plan, i want him to fight the bert-smith winner, which could get him undisputed at 175 if he's allowed to hang on to the belt from bivol while moving around

that would leave any current super middle as 5 fights from now at earliest........all these smw guys kinda blend into one another. pretty much untested dudes with bland matchmaking waiting around for canelo. the light heavys are more interesting, as is makabu for the size factor as somehting different. tbh, makabu's been fighting more ambitiously than the smws too

Canelo has bivol, GGG, beterbiv/Smith, makabu away from 168 rankings. But after that I think he is back at 168 (just a guess).

He plans on doing 3 this year...then would do one may, If everything goes perfect Canelo could be back at 168 September next year (that would take the dream run).

So having a belt gives Andrade a chance at securing the fight, no garrentee but gets his hat in the ring. And as I said other fighters will want that token to lure Canelo, so Andrade can use it to try get big fights late in the year and early next year, or baby it and wait.

It also just gets him a belt strait up. He is going to get stripped eventually at 160, Andrade with zero belt is even less likely to get decent fights.

The majority of the content of that article you provided was simply an opinion piece written by a journalist that very few people have ever heard of.

The only thing that matters was Eddie Hearn’s exact words.

And in terms of Stephen Edwards’ thoughts about Demetrius Andrade, which is what you previously quoted in a different post:

• “I was honestly hoping he fought Janibek Alimkhanuly because it’s obvious Jaime Munguia’s team didn’t want to fight him and the media really respects Janibek. Janibek is a hard, hard fight but I don’t know if giving up the belt was the way...

• “It’s hard to be a HOF if your resume is that shallow...”

He basically said that Boo Boo has fought no one decent during the course of a 14 year career and that avoiding Alimkhanuly was the wrong move.

Did you not realise that when you quoted Edwards’ words? :yay:

The bottom line: Demetrius Andrade wasn’t bringing in the numbers. He wasn’t attracting subscribers. And both DAZN and Matchroom got tired of paying him.

I wouldn't post it without reading it. I don't mind someone pointing out a shalliw resume or lack of drawing fans in, if it's the truth, and in Andrade's case it is.

What I don't like is skewing and spinning "facts", that are not relevant today. Yes, some idiots bring up "ducks" from 8-10, even 20 yrs ago as if it matters.

It's painfully obvious Andrade has been avoided by a few, as Breadman pointed out. It's hard to build a resume if other champs won't fight. Mall Charlo, for example, had no good excuse, same with Canelo. Both were offered higher paydays than they took after declining the offer from Hearn/Andrade, and both fought guys much less talented than Andrade.
