Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira - July 9, 2022
Magomed Kurbanov-Patrick Teixeira In Play For December 11 In Ekaterinburg
Patrick Teixeira is intent on reclaiming his title.
The former WBO junior middleweight titlist is set to return to the ring, pursuing the toughest available challenge in doing so. Brazil’s Teixeira has accepted an offer to face unbeaten top-rated contender Magomed Kurbanov, Patrick Nascimento informed Boxing Scene. The bout will take place December 11 at KRK Uralets in Kurbanov’s hometown of Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Teixeira (31-2, 22 KOs) has not fought since losing his title to unbeaten Brian Castaño (17-0-1, 12 KOs) this past February at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. The loss saw Teixeira snap a five-fight win streak that included his title-winning effort over then-unbeaten Carlos Adames in November 2019.
The fight with Kurbanov will mark the first outside of The Americas for Teixeira, a 30-year-old southpaw who has spent his entire career to date fighting in Brazil, Mexico and the United States.
Kurbanov (22-0, 13 KOs) risks his lofty WBO ranking, as the number-two contender aims to remain active. The 26-year-old Russian boxer is coming off his toughest test to date, having edged former titlist Liam Smith via twelve-round unanimous decision this past May. The fight took place at the same venue that will host the fight with Teixiera, who is presently ranked number-four by the WBO.
Despite both boxers so close to the top spot, there has yet to exact a path to vie for the mandatory position. Australia’s Tim Tszyu is currently the number-one contender to the WBO junior middleweight crown held by Castaño, who is hopeful of securing a rematch with lineal/WBC/WBA/IBF champ Jermell Charlo later this year. Such a bout is the lone exception that will be afforded the unbeaten Argentinean, to avoid having the WBO order a mandatory title fight. Tszyu is expected to reveal his next fight during a press conference Friday afternoon local time.
In the meantime, Kurbanov and Teixeira are willing to risk their place in line to plead their case as the division’s greatest threat to the crown.

F*ck, another covid cancellation on the fight day from this promotion. Goulamirian pulled out yesterday, Kurbanov today. February is considered now for Kurbanov-Teixeira. What the hell is going on with RCC Boxing?

Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira Could Be Rescheduled For February
Former world champion Patrick Teixeira of Brazil is ready to collide with Magomed Kurbanov of Russia in a fight for the WBO International title in February 2022, according to a rep for promoter RCC Boxing Promotions.
The fight, which was supposed to take place this past Saturday in Yekaterinburg, was called off at the late hour due to health problems on the part of the Russian boxer.
"The representatives of Teixeira do not object to the fight being held in February of next year. There are details that we need to discuss. Will the fight take place in Russia? The question is still open," a rep for RCC Boxing told Oleg Bogatov.
It was an unexpected occurrence when Kurbanov felt sick on Saturday morning, only hours before the fighters were scheduled to enter the ring in Yekaterinburg, but the decision to withdraw was actually made during the live card when both boxers were in their respective dressing rooms backstage.
The Russian boxer's temperature was running high just two hours before the fight. The boxer's team, together with doctors, organizers and promoters, decided not to risk the athlete's health.
Kurbanov (22-0, 13 KOs) was in the ring back in May, when he picked up a close twelve round decision win over former junior middleweight world champion Liam Smith.
For his part, Teixeira (31-2, 22 KOs) saw action in February when he lost his WBO junior middleweight title to Brian Castano.
The winner of Kurbanov vs. Teixeria will take a big step forward to a potential world title shot.

Re: Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira - March 26, 2022
Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira on March 26 in Yekaterinburg
A new date has been set. Russian contender Magomed Kurbanov will return to the ring on March 26 in Yekaterinburg, where he will take on former world champion Patrick Teixeira for the WBO International junior middleweight title, according to information provided by RCC Boxing Promotions to Oleg Bogatov.
In the main fight of the evening, another Russian contender, Evgeny Tishchenko, will meet with "regular" WBA champion Riyad Merhi of Belgium.
Kurbanov and Teixeira were supposed to fight in Yekaterinburg in December 2021, but the fight was canceled a few hours before the start of the contest, when Kurbanov became ill backstage, and the fight was called off. The handlers for both boxers agreed to postpone the fight to 2022.
Kurbanov is ranked in the number two position under the WBO, while Teixeira is sitting in the fourth position of the top ten.
The Russian boxer has won all 22 of his fights in the professional ring (13 by knockout), and Teixeira has 31 wins (22 ahead of schedule) with two defeats.
Kurbanov has been out of the ring since May of last year, when he won a tough twelve round decision over former world champion Liam Smith.
Teixeira saw action a year ago, in February 2021, when he lost his WBO title, by way of decision, to Brian Castano.

Re: Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira - March 26, 2022
Kurbanov-Teixeira March 26 Show In Ekaterinburg At Risk Of Postponement
Magomed Kurbanov and Patrick Teixeira face threat of yet another postponement.
The ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War has prompted the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and IBO to take a firm stance regarding its sanctioning of upcoming fights. All five organizations have ceased lending its approval of any fight currently scheduled in Russia during the nation’s ongoing invasion of neighboring Ukraine, with the WBA and WBO taking the additional step to not even recognize Russia in its rankings for the foreseeable future.
The upcoming junior middleweight clash between Kurbanov and Teixeira unfortunately checks off every box, in addition to taking three months later than originally intended to be the case. The show is currently scheduled to take place March 26 at KRK Uralets in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and with the WBO International junior middleweight title at stake. The bout was due to take place December 11, only for Kurbanov to withdraw due to breaking out with a fever after the weigh-in and unable to proceed.
Kurbanov-Teixeira is one of four bouts on the card previously carrying either WBA or WBO sanctioning, including secondary WBA cruiserweight titlist Ryad Merhy (30-1, 25KOs) of Belgium and Russia’s 2016 Olympic Gold medalist Evgeny Tishchenko (9-1, 6KOs). The language in the sanctioning bodies’ rulings would certainly put both fights at risk, or at least the stakes.
“We will await the final answer from the WBA before deciding,” German Titov, head of Titov/RCC Boxing Promotions told Boxing Scene.
The sentiment carried by the veteran promoter is the same as with nearly everyone else in the sport and the majority of the world in general—hope for peace and a resolution in the near future.
That line of thinking is shared by visiting fighters who will eventually have a difficult choice to make if the event remains on as scheduled and the ongoing war is not resolved by that point.
“We are still in training and hope all is resolved soon,” Patrick Nascimento, Teixeira’s manager, told BS.com.
To date, none of the fighters on the March 26 show have spoken out in favor of the war—an action that will be met with removal from the WBA rankings according to its eight-point Pursuit of Peace mandate handed down Monday. The sanctioning body will cease allowing unranked Russian boxers to enter the rankings, as well as denying its sanctioning of any fights in Russia or Belarus during this time of conflict. The organization has also called for Russian fighters to not fly or display its national flag, refer to the country by name or have its national anthem performed.
The ruling is in line with similar sanctions imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who initially banned all Russian athletes from participating in the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics last summer. A loophole softened that stance, though on the condition that said athletes enter under the banner of ROC—Russian Olympic Committee, though which couldn’t even be spelled out during the Games, as the representation was limited to the acronym itself.
Any decision on whether to cancel the show will likely come in the next ten days, as event handlers will have to leave ample time for visiting fighters to travel into the country.
Ekaterinburg is more than 1,300 miles from the Ukraine border, which Russian forces crossed on February 24 to officially launch its invasion. The unlawful entry has received near-universal condemnation and international sanctions on Russia, along with massive protests throughout the world—including throughout Russia, where an estimated 6,000 anti-war protesters have been detained in the nation as of Monday evening.
Kurbanov (22-0, 13KOs) has not fought since a disputed 12-round win over England's Liam Smith last May, at the very venue due to host the March 26 show. Brazil's Teixeira (31-2, 22KOs) aims to rebound following his unanimous decision defeat to Brian Castano last February 13, which ended his WBO junior middleweight title reign.

Kurbanov-Teixeira March 26 Show In Ekaterinburg Canceled
Magomed Kurbanov and Patrick Teixeira are once again stuck in a holding pattern.
The intriguing junior middleweight has suffered its second postponement, as the March 26 show it was due to headline has been canceled. German Titov, lead event promoter confirmed with BS.com that the show will not proceed, though unable to provide an update on when it will be rescheduled.

Re: Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira - July 9, 2022
Magomed Kurbanov vs. Patrick Teixeira Is Back on Track For July 9
Light middleweight contenders, Magomed Kurbanov of Russia and Patrick Teixeira of Brazil, will finally collide on July 9 in one of the important fights in the light middleweight division. The bout, which has been postponed before, will take place at the Uralets Arena in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and will be promoted by the RCC Boxing Promotions. It will be scheduled for ten rounds.
Kurbanov and Teixeira were previously set to clash against each other in December 2021 as a chief support for the Dmitry Bivol vs. Umar Salamov showdown. This fight was cancelled several hours before it should have happened after Kurbanov had displayed some fever-like symptoms.
TBRB #9 Magomed Kurbanov (22-0, 13 KOs), also rated #8 by the WBC and #14 by the IBF, was last seen in the ring in May 2021, when he hammered out a very close (some say questionable) unanimous decision over grizzled British veteran Liam Smith. He hasn’t been seen in action after that.
Patrick Teixeira (31-3, 22 KOs), presently unrated by major sanctioning bodies, will come into this fight riding a two-bout losing streak. Teixeira’s biggest achievement was a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Carlos Adames, which brought him an interim version of the WBO 154lb title. One which he lost in February 2021 to Brian Carlos Castano. In between the first cancelled encounter with Kurbanov and the second revived against the same boxer, Teixeira managed to lose on a DQ to unheralded Paul Valenzuela Cuesta in April 2022.
There will be two more ten-rounders in the card. Rapidly rising super middleweight stylist Pavel Silyagin (10-0, 5 KOs) is penciled to take on durable Mexican gatekeeper Jose de Jesus Macias (28-10-1, 14 KOs), who has recently been looking good against some semi-protected fighters. SIlyagin is the WBC #1 rated fighter, who is also ranked #9 by the TBRB.
In another ten-rounder, 2016 Olympic gold medalist Evgueny Tischchsenko (9-1, 6 KOs), who dominated fellow compatriot Dmitry Kudryashov in his most recent fight, will look to continue the recent revival against Kureysh Sagov (6-1, 2 KOs).
The card will also feature two much-awaited professional debuts of Russian nationals Gleb Bakshi (2019 WC gold and 2020 Tokyo bronze medalist) and Saveliy Sadoma (2021 WC bronze medalist), as well as next fights for talented heavyweights Alexander Dorofeev (5-0, 2 KOs) and Lazizbek Mullojonov (2-0, 2 KOs) and cruiserweight Yaroslav Doronichev (1-0).

It’s Russia. So main events there are usually 8-9pm UK time.

Magomed Kurbanov Drops, Decisions Patrick Teixeira Over Ten
WBC #8 / TBRB #9 Magomed Kurbanov (23-0, 13 KOs) continued his winning streak by defeating former WBO light middleweight titleholder Patrick Teixeira over ten rounds with a unanimous decision. Kurbanov, who dropped Teixeira hard in the first, combined his sometimes underrated boxing skills with always-present toughness to competitively outbox the Brazilian with the scores: 99-90, 98-91, and 97-92.
Their first meeting was scheduled to take place this past December as a co-main event of the Bivol vs. Salamov showdown but Kurbanov got ill hours before the fight leading to its temporary cancellation. He was last seen in the ring in May 2021, narrowly outpointing grizzled British veteran Liam Smith in a very close fight. Meanwhile, Teixeira managed to lose before the two dates of the fight to unheralded Paul Valenzuela Cuesta on a DQ. That was in April of 2022.
Kurbanov is usually a slow starter but this time he immediately got huge success, dropping Teixeira very hard at the end of the second minute of the first round with a smashing right hook. Up at six, the Brazilian looked dazed but survived the onslaught.
Equally known for toughness and his desire to rumble, Teixeira started to rumble with Kurbanov in the second. Feeling uncomfortable in open exchanges, Kurbanov chose a more measured approach by smothering his opponent's wild offense with his shoulder rolls, upper guard, and body movement. As always, Kurbanov wasn't exemplary quick but his timing has improved over years, which helped him to get an upper hand in exchanges.
Teixeira was less versatile and more limited than his opponent, abandoning jab for a two-gun shoot-out. This tactic wasn't a key to success but allowed the Brazilian to remain active while the Russian was piling up a lead. To his credit, Brazilian had some moments during the mid-rounds, but Magomed's lead had never been in any danger. Kurbanov connected with some well-timed hooks and also changed his stance to an extent, posing more problems for a bit stiff opponent.
Both boxers rumbled furiously during rounds eight and nine but put their feet of the gas pedal during the last round. With the win, Kurbanov proved again he belongs to the top-10 of the 154lb division. Teixeira (now 31-4, 22 KOs) has dropped his third straight and is now off the title picture at least for quite a time.

Was it wide or was it ‘wide’?
