Josh Taylor receives death threats after controversial points win over Jack Catterall

Josh Taylor and his family have been sent death threats following his controversial split-points decision victory over Jack Catterall on Saturday, his promoter, MTK Global, has said.

Taylor retained his four world junior welterweight titles when he punched his way to victory over Catterall at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, despite being knocked down in the eighth round.

The decision sparked outrage in among boxing fans and pundits following the bout. The British Boxing Board of Control have launched an investigation.

MTK Global have said Taylor has received "personal attacks" following the event and asked for the abuse to stop.

It said in a statement on Tuesday: "Following the Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall fight on Saturday, MTK Global is saddened and deeply concerned to learn of insults, personal attacks and even death threats targeting the fighters, their partners and their families. This has to stop immediately.

"Boxing has always been a sport that unites communities and supports one another and regardless of Saturday night's outcome, both Josh and Jack respect each other as men, as athletes and as fans of the sport they have dedicated their lives to. Not only have they endured sacrifice and gruelling training camps away from their families and partners in the lead up to this bout, but their families have sacrificed for the sport too and we ask the public, and the boxing community to respect that and offer their support instead of fuelling an already extremely emotional situation.

"We ask you to remember that, no matter what the fighters, their teams, their peers, or fight fans believe the result should have been, the decision was not in their hands, but lay in the hands of judging officials and it is our understanding the British Boxing Board of Control are now conducting their own investigation, which we fully encourage.

"We have always been honoured to work with both Josh and Jack and are immensely proud of all that they have achieved over the years, both entering the ring as undefeated fighters and showing the world what home grown talent Scotland and England have to offer, and the fans who flocked in their droves to witness the very first UK undisputed fight in the history of boxing.

"MTK Global has always been a family and we ask you to support our family and their families as they look forward to what we know is going to be an incredible rematch in the very near future."

Death threats are annoying and silly..

I mean if anyone should get death threats, it's then two judges or mainly IJL, but they never do or we never hear about it.

Wouldn't blame Taylor.

Can talk about fix being in etc, but there is never any proof.

Taylor didn't exactly himself in the post-fight.. Maybe that's pissed people off.

Taylor really shouldn't have acted so defiant in his belief that he won. Makes him come across smug and deluded. He should have had a bit of class in victory.

They should be tracking these people down and prosecuting them. Taylor really did come across very badly but there is no excuse for the death threats.

I think it was the condemnation about the decision from absolutely everyone and then Taylor in contrast being a bit smug and arrogant about winning in the interview. He would have won all of the fans over if he had been humble. It was a complete PR disaster from Taylor in the post fight interviews but he had just taken a lot of shots.

Quick way to stop the threats is to man up and offer Catterall an immediate rematch.

He’s offered him a rematch at a catchweight.

Death threats don't mean anything you get them all the time.

Ask Daniel Kinahan. :OhYes:

Again, the Kinahans have on their payroll a bunch of lads who gangraped, tortured and murdered a young woman for money, anybody who cries the blues needs a word with themselves

Also it's brilliant (or pathetically tragic) to see people acting like Daniel Kinahan was a working class lad who started this business empire

He inherited a massive heroin distribution ring from his dad, and makes his money flooding the Irish streets with poison, and has almost pissed the whole thing up the wall with an unnecessary feud and his own egomaniacal pet project in boxing

These guys are the worst of the worst of the worst, crying over Instagram death threats??? Are you for real??

Sometimes you gotta fight death threats with death threats.... my advice is ammend MTKs statement to "anyone who sends a death threat to jash taylor will be killed".... That would stop em.

mtk of all groups dont really give a sheeyat about death threats, and they sure as hell know that anyone making death threats aint gonna mind their manners because of a press release. sympathy tactic imo

look up 'fake death threats sympathy' or something similar .........happens all the time and those are just the cases they could prove

It's a classic Kinahan move, nothing gets released without his ok, even those pictures of Darren dirtball Till and Not so Sunny Edwards with their arms around him, you don't just put your arm around him and take a selfie and post it, you get told to do it as part of him trying to weasel his way back into the media after deliberately going into hiding after Panorama after the documentary exposes them
