Unfortunately for Frank Smith he’s got a lot of body to defend when body sparring! He had a white collar charity fight a few years back against a guy from Gogglebox I think. He stopped him in the first and bust his nose up. He was a good few stone lighter then.

He used to claim Brook was his "mate". Now he claims that Canelo is his "mate".
And?? Is he restricted to one mate??
Do you really think that they are Eddie's "mates"?
Probably aye, maybe not in the sense that they hang out together but they always seemed to have a good relationship, I work with fellas I'd consider mates even though I don't see them out of work, a big telling factor about Eddie and Matchroom is they don't get sued and the people who slate him are generally helmets, Ohara Davies and Tyson Fury etc

His soon to be father in-law Chris Eubank won’t have been happy seeing that.

Can you imagine the wedding speeches. Father of the Bride Senior followed by Frank and then Eddie as best man. They’ll need a couple of hours and I guarantee Eddie will mention that he spoke to AJ the night before and something about his good friend Canelo.

So if one of your mates was fighting Amir Khan in a sold-out arena would you tell the world that your not watching it?

If my mate had done something to piss me off then I wouldn't watch, Brook and Hearn worked well together, got to the top despite Brook's ill discipline , Brook's team decided to make a deal on their own, cut Eddie out of it then went cap in hand begging him to secure a TV deal and were promptly told to do one

Yeh, that's what it was. He and his team negotiated the Bud fight cutting the middle man (Hearn) out. That fight was purely about money for Brook, he was at the stage where he didn't know whether he'd get the Khan fight ever.

Once the fight was made, needed UK tv rights, and to have Sky Sports back then, you needed to go through Hearn..

Where was it broadcast in the end over here? Was it FITE?

Randomly a guy I know (he’s called Baz) negotiated Brook’s fight with Crawford with Top Rank. Kell did it for the money as he probably thought it’d be his last big payday so he wanted to keep most of it himself rather than giving money to a promoter/known trainer. Baz certainly didn’t get 10% and Eddie pissed Baz off by referring to him as Basil during an interview with IFL.

Eddie and Brook are good again now apparently.

Hearn probably did watch the fight, live as well.. No doubt.

Not being their in attendance.. that's a different thing..

have you ever seen a promoter at another show they're NOT promoting?

Barry went to Saunders-Ryder. They didn't let him in the ring, Frank said they thought it was Paul O'Grady.

Petty and the act of someone who’s properly bitter.

When Francis went over for Andrade/Williams he was complimentary about how he was dealt with when he was out there.

You can not like someone but still treat them with respect. I’ve worked with and known plenty of people that I haven’t particularly liked but unless they’ve really stepped out of line I’ve always shown them respect and courtesy as I’d expect most people to.

Perhaps if FW hadn’t been so joyous when Whyte lost to Povetkin then Whyte would have been a lot more accommodating with the Fury fight.

As petty as it sounds, If I was Queensbury I would ban Hearn from the event.

The normal bit of banter is totally fine and fair game, but I’ve seen Eddie on multiple interviews recently putting it out there that Fury might pull out as well as Whyte. Direct quote from Hearn on Whyte “Dillian will be there on Fight night, or maybe he won’t..”

One minute he is saying he’s not involved, than he saying they need him to have a successful event. Then he is he coming out with rubbish suggesting Dillian might not get paid with “check company’s house” specials and demanding his purse goes in escrow etc.

Hearn knows that is not the procedure for this to be done on a purse bid, and I doubt DAZN have done this for Canelo $50m for Bivol.

I like Eddie in general, but those kind of comments are beyond bitter- so fcuk him off from the fight.

He does like talking too much.

I partially blame the YouTube guys. IFL, Seconds Out, Behind the Gloves, Boxing Social..

After one event, each and everyone one of them will
Interview him. And then IFL will do an hour interview EVERY week at the office.

Giving him too much interview time. He’s bound to chat a lot of crap.

Yeah - they probably will ban him but I’m not sure it’ll matter. They’ll do everything by the letter in the contract (which I think is 6 tickets to the fight for Team Whyte) and I can’t see Eddie getting one or going.

Unfortunately Tyson has pulled out of a few fights in the past (3 in can think of so may be more than that) so people will always use that against him. Whyte is trying to piss all of Team Fury off and creating as much doubt and ambiguity as possible. Leaving it late to sign the contract, not coming to the press conference so I get the impression Eddie is playing around with it too. I’ve said before that I don’t think it’s a bad thing for Whyte to do as he’d get hammered in a verbal battle by Tyson.

Eddie’s said he’s not involved from the get go. He’s saying they need him to make it a success to boost his own ego and wind Frank up. It’s not necessary, not particularly endearing but it seems to wind Frank up.

Re: the companies house stuff I actually get that one. Frank’s had history of not paying fighters. Their accounts show £66k of cash at the end of their last year. DAZN wouldn’t have done it for Canelo or anyone but there’s never been an issue of non-payment from them in the past so the risk of non-payment is tiny. Unfortunately whilst the chances of Frank not paying again are remote, given he’s done it the past creates that doubt - particularly for sizeable purse like this. If Top Rank had won the bid instead then I can’t imagine Whyte/Hearn mentioning anything.

Frank’s already saying that he’s going to look for action to be taken against Whyte for not going to the press conference so it wouldn’t surprise me if he withholds something whilst his case is pushed.

Good post :TU:
I agree about the companies house part. If there wasn't a history of non payments, and what can only be assessed from account records as a pitifully small trading balance, Eddie has every right to be concerned about his fighter, sorry, his cut :D

Eddie won’t be getting a cut as he doesn’t have an exclusive deal with Whyte. Obviously he’s worked very closely with Whyte for the last 7-8 years so I’m sure they’re still talking about things and asking for the money to go into escrow isn’t a bad idea and will also piss Frank off.

Good read.

Yes, Fury does have a past history of unreliability, but he has been fine since he came back. Obviously there was a Covid pull out of Wilder 3, but that only delayed it by a few months.

Ironically, it’s Whyte who has the recent history of leaving an opponent at the alter in Wallin

Eddie knows that the purses are underwritten by BT & ESPN - they have the money. Hearn is not concerned about Whyte being paid in the slightest - he is doing what he can to cast doubt on the event and cause friction - that’s my issue with him.

I have never heard anything from Fury/Dubois/Yarde/Frampton etc of money issues involving Queensbury.
