Lewis Ritson, Troy Williamson and Thomas Patrick Ward to headline Probellum event on March 25

Global boxing promotion Probellum will host its first UK show of 2022 in Newcastle in March, jointly headlined by local fighters Lewis Ritson, Troy Williamson and Thomas Patrick Ward, with the hugely talented duo Pat McCormack and Ben Rees set to make their professional debuts.

Taking place at the Utilita Arena, on Friday March 25, Probellum returns to the north-east following its sell out inaugural UK show in Sunderland in December.

The upcoming event features some of British boxing’s biggest and brightest talents, with tickets available to purchase via Ticketmaster from today (Friday January 28).

Newcastle-born Ritson (22-2, 13 knockouts) will be back in action after defeating Christian Uruzquieta with a brilliant performance in December.

This time around he faces former world champion Dejan Zlaticanin (24-3, 16 knockouts), an experienced Serbian fighter. Now 37, 'Dynamite' Dejan lifted the WBC World lightweight title six years ago in 2016, which he lost in his next fight to Mikey Garcia. In his last fight, in September, he was decisioned by Zaur Abdullaev for the WBC Silver lightweight title.

Having signed to Probellum last month, Williamson (17-0-1, 13 knockouts), from Darlington, aims to maintain his unbeaten record in what will be the first defence of his British super-welterweight title, which he secured courtesy of an eye-catching knockout victory over British fighter Ted Cheeseman in October 2021.

The undefeated Ward (31-0-1, 4 knockouts), from County Durham, produced a dominant display against Venezuelan Leonardo Padilla in his most recent contest to move one step closer to a deserved world title shot.

The event will also see McCormack and Rees, both local fighters who recently signed to Probellum, make their hotly anticipated professional debuts following brilliant careers at amateur level, with McCormack winning a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Rees a five-time national champion.

Fellow Probellum fighter and rising star Dickinson (2-0, 1 knockout) will be looking to build on an impressive start to his professional career under the guidance of world-leading coach Ben Davison when he returns to the ring at the Utilita Arena.

Speaking about the event Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum, who has promoted some of the biggest names in world boxing including Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather, said: “We are extremely pleased to be bringing our first UK show of the year to Newcastle, a city which boasts a huge passion for boxing, and home to many of Probellum’s most promising young fighters.

“December’s show in Sunderland was a big success, with a brilliant atmosphere, and we are really looking forward to returning to the north-east in March.

“As always, the card is packed full of talent with Troy Williamson joining a host of talented local fighters, including the likes of Lewis Ritson and Mark Dickinson, for what promises to be a fantastic night of boxing.”

Tickets, which go on sale today (Friday January 28), can be purchased via Ticketmaster

It’s a strange one. The home side of the fights make for a really good show but they need to be in decent fights which I’m not so sure they will be given only one fight has been announced and I’m not too fussed by the Ritson fight.

No TV deal announced yet either and very little promotion for the show so far. I wouldn’t have even known about it without your post on here Ruthless.

The previous Probellum cards including UK boxers, that took place in Dubai, that was on FreeSports and Premier/BNation wasn't it?

Hopefully, something similar.

Decent boxers on the card, but like you said, it's the opponents..

The fighters will get zero exposure on those channels though. I didn’t check any of the BARB details for their first shows (as it’s quite inaccurate) but it normally gives a guide.

Probellum announce full undercard for Ritson-Zlaticanin in Newcastle on March 25

New boxing promotion Probellum have today announced the full undercard for their March 25th show in Newcastle headlined by Lewis Ritson’s clash with Dejan Zlaticanin at super-lightweight. The bout marks Ritson’s second fight since his tenth-round defeat to Jeremias Nicolas Ponce last year, this time in against a man who has previously shared a ring with Mikey Garcia and even defeated Ricky Burns via split-decision back in 2014.

Tokyo 2020 silver-medallist Pat McCormack will make his eagerly anticipated professional debut against Danny Mendoza having put pen to paper with Probellum at the start of the year. Newly-crowned British champion at 154lbs Troy Williamson attempts the first defence of his title over twelve rounds against Chester’s Mason Cartwright. Williamson snatched the British title from Ted Cheeseman in a fight of the year contender last October showing incredible heart and resilience, and will mark a big step-up at domestic level for Cartwright. Durham featherweight Thomas Patrick Ward is also set to run out over ten rounds on the 25th against Alexis Kabore. Patrick Ward is certainly one for the boxing purist, only scoring four of his thirty-one victories via stoppage, but from a technical standpoint is superb and enjoyable to watch for admirers of the noble art. Hot prospect Mark Dickinson is slated to run out for a third time after impressing massively in his first two bouts, many tipping as one of the best up and coming talents from these shores. Peter Kramer is listed as the opponent on Probellum’s Instagram account.

Further down the card, the popular ‘Benwell Bomber’ Joe Laws is set to feature in his fourth fight since the stoppage defeat to Rylan Charlton in 2020, though an opponent has not yet been confirmed. Also set to appear are Ben Rees at 175lbs, Joe Maphosa at super-flyweight, Robert Ismay at cruiserweight, Adam Cope at lightweight and Alex Farrell at super-welterweight.

Press Release | Pat McCormack To Make Pro Debut Against Danny Mendoza

Olympian Pat McCormack will face Nicaraguan opposition on his eagerly anticipated professional debut later this month.

The exceptional Great Britain amateur, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Games last summer, is scheduled to meet Danny Mendoza (6-7, 4KO) over six rounds in Newcastle on Friday, March 25.

There is a huge buzz about the pro debut of McCormack after a stellar amateur career that saw him secure Commonwealth Games gold and silvers at the World Amateur Championships and European Championships, as well as his Olympic medal from Japan.

“We are all incredibly excited about what the future holds for Pat McCormack,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum.

“He begins his professional journey, in front of his home fans in Newcastle, on March 25 and we all believe that Pat will go to the very top of the sport.

“His amateur pedigree is exceptional, and we know he has the capabilities to be even better in the pro ranks. Pat McCormack’s fights are going to be must-see events for every boxing fan, not just in the UK, but around the world.”

He will perform at the Probellum Throwdown event which will bring together some of the biggest names from the red-hot north east boxing scene, with local hero Lewis Ritson headlining when he fights former world champion Dejan Zlaticanin.

British super-welterweight champion Troy Williamson is to defend his title against Mason Cartwright while world-ranked welterweight Thomas Patrick Ward squares off against Alexis Kabore.

Hot prospect Mark Dickinson has a third professional contest, facing Peter Kramer, Ben Rees makes his debut while local favorites Joe Laws, Joseph Maphosa and others also feature.

troy has some seriously heavy hands, looking forward to seeing him again. him vs fowler would've been interesting

i know it's just his debut, but would've liked to see a lot more ambitious matchmaking for mccormack there. he has been beating guys vastly better than mendoza for years already.

This show on Eurosport and Discovery.

More significant is their willingness to do business with Probellum.

Potentially huge as it has the potential for a lot of boxers to be available to Eurosport/Discovery/BT.......

Think the last time Ritson looked even half decent was against Davies. He seemed to put a hell of a lot into the fight, and just scraped it. Beyond lucky against Vasquez. Still think he should have stuck at Lightweight.

Should win here, but its pretty light matchmaking.

Rest of card is far better than last show in Newcastle. That was fooking dreadful.

I actually thought Davies beat Ritson and that was Ritson as good as he can be I think at light welter.

I’ve seen very little promotionally about this show - particularly compared to the other 2 shows this weekend.
