Davis might be the biggest superstar who's done almost nothing I've ever seen in Boxing. It's going on 10 years now, and this guy has ducked EVERYBODY!!!!

And somehow has fans. I don't get it. He's everything that's wrong with Boxing. A gutless punk who'd rather punch his girlfriend than a dangerous opponent.
 so true. I'm surprised he didn't say "tubby" like Ivan Redkach did..

Gervonta Davis-Rolando Romero Fight To Be Rescheduled For June 4 On Showtime PPV

Rolando Romero will get his shot at Gervonta Davis almost six months to the day later than he expected.

Boxing Scene has learned that Mayweather Promotions and Premier Boxing Champions are in the process of finalizing a deal for the lightweight title bout between Davis and Romero to be rescheduled. Barring any unforeseen obstacles, they’ll headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View event June 4 at a venue to be determined.

Baltimore’s Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) and Romero (14-0, 12 KOs), of North Las Vegas, Nevada, were supposed to meet December 5 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Mexican contender Isaac Cruz replaced Romero on five weeks’ notice because a woman with whom Romero was acquainted accused him of sexually assaulting her sometime during the fall of 2019.

She filed a police report late in October in Henderson, Nevada. The incident was investigated, but charges were not filed against Romero.

Though there are other lightweights that fans want Davis to fight, Mayweather Promotions represents Romero as well. Floyd Mayweather and his company’s CEO, Leonard Ellerbe, have decided to reschedule Romero’s shot at Davis in part because Romero was removed from a fight for which the hard-hitting contender had already signed a bout agreement and attended a press conference October 21 in Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old Romero remained the WBA’s number one contender for Davis’ secondary WBA 135-pound championship throughout the time of the aforementioned sexual assault investigation.

Davis defeated Cruz by unanimous decision, but the powerful southpaw’s rugged challenger provided Davis’ toughest test in 26 professional fights. The 27-year-old Davis had knocked out 16 straight opponents prior to going the 12-round distance with Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs), who will face Cuban veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18 KOs) in a 12-rounder on the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard April 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Davis worsened an existing injury to his left hand when he fought Cruz, but it required rest, not surgery. Avoiding a procedure on his dominant hand will allow the three-division champion to return to the ring sooner.

I didn’t watch it all, nor did I watch it live.

I heard there was a funny part so I skimmed though it.

It was cringe though.

OK.
It is just so fabricated. Like one of those Real Housewives shows. Fake drama and confrontation for the cameras.
Who buys into it?
Obviously not you or I.
Maybe the grown adults who watch professional "wrestling" :maybe:

Tank is such a waste of talent. He is one of the best draws in the division so could be making big fights.

Tank won a 130lb belt at 22. He is now 27 and is yet to win a real belt at any other weight. Only good guy he has fought since Pedrosa is Leo is a 122/126lber...

I think tank is a decent chance vs anyone in the world at 135, it's the most hyped division bellow welter, he has the star power to make it yet he is yet to have a single good opponent at 135....

Imagine a world where Floyd didn't have his claws in tank. And his mentor was someone telling him to take risks for greatness. Might have a couple of losses, but fuk it would be fun.

Same, but I fear it may all be hot air.
Rolly hasn't done anything to show he can either.
The other problem is Rolly winning doesn't fit the narrative. So even if he performed like Jack Catterall, unfortunately we won't see his hand raised unless Tank is comatose.

Gervonta Davis-Rolando Romero To Headline Showtime PPV Card 5/28 At Barclays Center

Gervonta Davis confirmed Friday night that he will fight in New York for the first time in more than four years.

The unbeaten Baltimore native Tweeted that he’ll return to the ring May 28 in New York. BS.com confirmed thereafter that Davis will face rival Rolando Romero in a Showtime Pay-Per-View main event that night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The hard-hitting Davis, who has become one of boxing’s biggest box-office draws, hasn’t competed in New York since he stopped Argentina’s Jesus Cuellar in the third round of a 12-round, 130-pound championship match at Barclays Center in April 2018.

Boxing Scene reported March 5 that Davis-Romero would take place June 4, the original date reserved for Davis-Romero. Premier Boxing Champions and Mayweather Promotions agreed to move up the date to one week earlier, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

The 12-round, 135-pound title bout between Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) and Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) has been rescheduled for almost six months after it was supposed to take place.

Mayweather Promotions and PBC removed Romero from their December 5 fight at Staples Center in Los Angeles late in October because a woman with whom Romero was acquainted accused him of sexually assaulting her sometime during the fall of 2019. She filed a police report a few days before Mexican contender Isaac Cruz replaced Romero on five weeks’ notice.

Detectives for the Henderson Police Department in Nevada investigated her claim, but Romero was not charged with a crime.

The WBA kept Romero, 26, in the number one spot in its 135-pound rankings throughout the aforementioned ordeal. The North Las Vegas native last fought July 17, when he stopped Sweden’s Anthony Yigit (24-2-1, 8 KOs) in the seventh round of a fight Showtime televised as part of the Jermell Charlo-Brian Castano undercard at AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs) took Davis the distance for the first time in 17 fights. The strong southpaw out-pointed Cruz unanimously, yet their 12-round bout represented Davis’ toughest test as a professional.

The 27-year-old Davis aggravated an injury to his left hand early in their fight. Davis’ trainer, Calvin Ford, revealed afterward that Davis sustained that injury during training camp.

Cruz proved to be very tough, too, as he took Davis’ hardest punches on his way to snapping his powerful opponent’s 16-fight knockout streak.

Mayweather Denies That He Tried To Overshadow Gervonta Davis' Media Event

Five division world champion Floyd Mayweather denies that he intentionally tried to overshadow the media event that was being staged by one of his company fighters, Gervonta 'Tank' Davis.

Last Thursday, a press conference was staged in Brooklyn to announce Davis' Showtime pay-per-view clash with Rolando Romero.

A few hours later in Miami, Mayweather held a press conference to announce an upcoming exhibition fight with Don Moore, which is going to take place in Dubai next month.

Although Mayweather's company is promoting Davis - there is a lot of tension between them and Davis has openly expressed his desire to become a free agent. The two have had a very rocky business relationship in the last few years.

When news of Mayweather's presser began to circulate in the press, Davis took to social media to take a shot at the Hall of Famer in a since deleted tweet.

Mayweather explained that the event promoters were unable to push back his presser with Moore and were forced to stage it on that particular day.

"Anderson Silva had to fly out of Miami. So we couldn't do the press conference on any other day. They said, 'We'll pay you $1 million to do it.' I said, 'No problem.' I can feed my family with that," Mayweather told spam.com.

"I'm the same one that got on a podium not long ago and went to war for my fighter, I said, 'Why isn't Tank on the P4P list?' When my fighter didn't make weight, I went to war for my fighter. These are things we seem to forget."

Roy Jones Says Gervonta Davis Should Become Promotional Free Agent

Roy Jones Jr. is one of the most decorated boxers over the last 35 years.

The Olympics medalist, 1990s fighter of the decade, International Boxing Hall of Fame fighter, and respected boxing broadcaster is now in the second act of his career as a coach and promoter of Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions.

Throughout his near 20-year professional career, Jones worked with promoters of all kinds, including Bob Arum and Don King, among others.

An active fighter who appears to be at a promotional crossroads is Gervonta Davis.

Davis is next set to take on rival Mayweather Promotions stablemate Rolando Romero on May 28 at the Barclays Center headlining a Showtime pay-per-view.

In recent weeks, “Tank” has been taking to Twitter – and soon deleting – a series of shots directed at Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Davis has revealed that his contract is up with Mayweather, all while airing a different diet of frustrations on how his career is being handled.

Davis was bothered that Mayweather staged a press conference last Thursday announcing his Dubai exhibition on the same day he was tasked with promoting his matchup with Romero. Mayweather, who was not present at Davis’ event, denied that he was trying to upstage the pupil he promotes.

When Jones was asked if Davis should pursue a new path in his career as a free agent, the all-time great outlined potential greener pastures if he chose to do so.

“Yeah, because [Davis] doesn't need anybody no more. He already has his name. The world knows Tank. The boxing world knows Tank. Tanks will fight anybody and people will tune in to see. Why? Because Tank will be able to knock you out anytime with any hand. People love that,” Jones told K.O. Artist Sports. “That's what makes boxing exciting. That's the Mike Tyson style. You either have Roy Jones-style excitement or Mike Tyson-style excitement. He has a little bit of both but he mainly has the Mike Tyson-style of excitement because he can touch you anytime with any hand and you can go out. That's big.”

Davis’ promotional and contractual future will be one of the more interesting developments to monitor in boxing moving forward following his next fight.

Promoters Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya have both already expressed their interest in signing Davis to a deal should the lightweight decide to move on from Mayweather.

Undercard Press Release

The SHOWTIME PPV undercard for Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero will feature three matchups entering the ring in high-stakes action on Saturday, May 28 live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn in a Premier Boxing Champions event.

Two-division world champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara will defend his WBA "Regular" Middleweight Title against hard-hitting, Irish crowd-pleaser Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan in the co-main event of the telecast, which begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Sensational young star Jesús “Mono” Ramos will put his unbeaten record on the line against rugged super welterweight battler Luke Santamaría in a 10-round showdown on the pay-per-view, while hard-hitting contender Eduardo Ramírez battles Puerto Rico’s Luis Meléndez in a 10-round super featherweight thriller that shapes up to deliver toe-to-toe action opening up the telecast.

“When you look at the matchups, this is an edge-of-your-seat pay-per-view undercard,’’ said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “Erislandy Lara, a highly skilled champion who has engaged in numerous exciting action bouts, will have everything he can handle against Gary O’Sullivan, who has never backed up in a boxing ring. Fans will also get to see exciting young star Jesús Ramos bringing that heat-seeking knockout mentality to the ring against rugged brawler Luke Santamaría, and Eduardo Ramírez versus Luis Meléndez, as they look to add their duel as the latest chapter in the classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico boxing rivalry. Whether you’re watching at Barclays Center in Brooklyn or watching live on SHOWTIME PPV, you’re going to be entertained all night long.’’

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through seatgeek.com and barclayscenter.com. Tickets are also available for purchase at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center.

Lara (28-3-3, 16 KOs) was the longest reigning 154-pound world champion before he lost a tough split-decision to Jarrett Hurd in a title unification match in 2018 that earned “Fight of the Year” from the BWAA. Lara returned from that fight and battled current 154-pound world titleholder Brian Castaño to an exciting draw in another narrow fight that could have gone Lara’s way. Lara most recently moved up to middleweight, capturing his WBA title with a first round knockout of Thomas LaManna in May 2021. Lara faced a slew of the top 154-pounders in the sport, including Canelo Alvarez, ahead of his middleweight debut.

“I’m ready to get back in the ring and show the fans that I’m still a world class fighter,” said Lara. “Gary O’Sullivan has proven to be a tough opponent for everyone he’s faced, and his only losses are to champions. I’ve been in many great fights and it will be no different when I step into the ring at Barclays Center. Being on this stage always brings out the best in me and fans can expect to see my power in this fight.’’

A native of Cork, Ireland, O’Sullivan (31-4, 21 KOs) has won three of his last four fights leading into his title shot against Lara on May 28. O’Sullivan’s aggressive style has made him a fan-favorite each time he steps into the ring. He has faced a deep roster of top names, including David Lemieux, Jaime Munguia, Chris Eubank Jr., and Billy Joe Saunders. O’Sullivan scored a career-best victory in December 2017, as he stopped rising prospect Antoine Douglas during a five-fight knockout streak.

“From the very first time I watched boxing, I’ve always dreamed of being a world champion and from the first day I turned professional I’ve worked towards that goal,” said O’Sullivan. “I’ve had some setbacks, but I’ve gone back to the drawing board, regrouped, righted some wrongs and kept pushing forward. I’ve always known that one day the chips would fall in my favor. I’m coming to rip that belt back to Ireland and hear the words, ‘And the new!’”

A strong southpaw who at 21 has yet to come close to hitting his ceiling as a fighter, Ramos (18-0, 15 KOs) is the nephew of welterweight contender Abel Ramos, who was defeated in February by Santamaría via unanimous decision. Jesus knocked out tough contender Vladimir Hernandez in February on that same card. Prior to that impressive outing, Ramos had shown the ability to outpoint his opponents with back-to-back 10-round unanimous decisions over Brian Mendoza in September 2021 and Javier Molina in May 2021. Overall, the youthful Ramos has gained recognition with highlight-reel KOs, stopping six of his last eight opponents, showcasing a desire to end his fights early.

"Training out in Las Vegas has been going great so far,” said Ramos. “We’ve had some great sparring out here. We expect Santamaria to move around the entire fight, so we’re going to be ready to cut the ring off and land heavy shots. I’m going to win on May 28 because of the preparation I’ve been doing, but I’m not underestimating anyone and will prepare to the best of my ability."

The 24-year-old Santamaría (13-2-1, 7 KOs) will look to continue his success against the Ramos family as he steps into the ring after back-to-back impressive victories, first defeating two-division champion Devon Alexander in August 2021 before defeating Abel Ramos in February on less than two weeks’ notice. Santamaría had previously dropped a decision to top prospect and SHOBOX: The New Generation alum Paul Kroll in October 2020, following an August 2020 triumph over veteran contender Mykal Fox that saw him put Fox down in the first round. The Garden Grove, Calif. native also owns a decision over Willie Jones and a majority draw against SHOBOX® prospect Marquis Taylor in his 2019 contests.

“I’m daring to be great in this fight,” said Santamaría. “That’s the main reason I agreed to fight Ramos. I’ve shown that I’m willing to compete against anyone, because I believe in my training and my abilities. This is going to be a great fight for the fans and I can’t wait to step in there on May 28.”

Fighting out of Sinaloa, Mexico, Ramírez (26-2-3, 12 KOs) has risen up the rankings with four-straight victories, including most recently defeating Miguel Marriaga in December 2021. He previously had stopped then-unbeaten Leduan Barthelemy in November 2019 before blasting out Miguel Flores in December 2020. The 29-year-old is currently riding wins in six of his last seven fights since losing to then featherweight champion Lee Selby in 2017. He’s won 17 of his last 20 fights overall, including a March 2019 knockout victory at Barclays Center.

“I’m happy to be returning to Brooklyn for this fight,” said Ramírez. “I scored a big knockout last time I was there, even though I was the underdog going into the fight. My plan is to deliver a moment like that once again. I’m already in great shape and I will be prepared for a war on May 28.”

Originally from Puerto Rico and now fighting out of Miami, Fla., Meléndez (17-1, 13 KOs) has moved into contender status with an undefeated streak after dropping his third pro fight back in 2018 via split decision. The 24-year-old was busy in 2021, winning eight times, including six victories by knockout. Most recently, Melendez scored a career-best victory over Thomas Mattice in November, winning a unanimous decision after eight rounds. Melendez’s clash with Ramírez shapes up to be a classic Puerto Rico-Mexico ring war.

“I’m very excited to be on a big card like this,” said Meléndez. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’m coming to put my name on the map come May 28. The winner of this fight is going to be the fans. I’m going to make Puerto Rico proud once again and display my talents in the ring. I want to thank my team and say that I’m not going to disappoint, because this is just the beginning for me.”
