This is interesting. The Napoles of 1974 was past his peak, in my view, when he fought Monzon. Also, Monzon had a big height advantage. That Napoles gets battered by Hagler and stopped. However, Napoles from 5 years earlier is a different animal entirely. While I believe Hagler wins, its a real good bout and close too.

Jose was almost on a par with Duran and, like Roberto, he goes the route with Hagler and loses a decision. Of course, with Napoles, cuts could factor in and he might get stopped but I wouldn't bet on that.

I love the great Jose "Mantequilla" Napoles, but Marvelous would overwhelm him. Too strong.

Mantequilla was mostly a Lightweight and jr Welterweight most of his career.

Marvelous by knockout in 6, just like the great Carlos Monzon did.

Mantequilla was great at welterweight, but like Monzon at middleweight, Hagler would be too Marvelous for Napoles and punished him for a stoppage win in 5 rounds.

Both greats but Hagler too big and too strong. I dont see Napoles fighting like SRL but staying right there slipping and counterpunching but Hagler overwhelms him

Hagler TKO6 on cuts. Like others have said, Nápoles was a great welterweight (and lightweight) but Hagler would have battered him like Monzon did, maybe worse because Monzon tended to take his time and Hagler would have been battering Nápoles from round 1 or 2.
