Amen to that (Maggie's post) and CP and FF posts
Fighters like Roman Gonzalez are the reason why the Ian John Lewis's of this world will never diminish my love for the sport, there's plenty other things to hate, mainly terrible judging, drug cheats, Duckers, rival promoters and governing bodies but they are all sh1t on the soles of Chocolatito

Definitely that was Bunceymickey1975 wrote: ↑06 Mar 2022, 06:25 Lara is a beast. They really didn't do their homework on that before he first boxed Josh. Weirdly, Josh and his fans and promoter think it was a formality Josh was on his way to victory in the rematch. I saw the opposite.

These guys will never get the recognition that the golden era of 60s/70s Heavyweight boxing or that of the Five Kings(Inc Benitez) bit I'd imagine if we to name our top 5 fights from these eras including these little guys here , I'd imagine Gonzalez, Estrada, Rungvisai, Cuadras, Martinez, Bam Rodriguez will come out on top, even the one sided fights like this or Rodriguez/Cuadras are a joy to watch

Any thoughts on Diego Pacheco? Still only a baby at 20 but has some spite in his punch?
Going places or going nowhere?
Laura fightbwas great whilst it lasted. He is some violent operator.
A skilled mover with a stiff jab and a great engine would give him problems though. No point trading with a maniac like him.

Gonzalez. What a fighter the variety, his timing, distance and the ability to put pressure on when he’s not even working. He’s just an unbelievable fighter.
Take away the failed weight making and you’ve got to give Martinez credit he was eating big shots all night and never looked like giving in and kept coming back

pachecho really impressed me and has generally been impressive before this too. ktfoing pllana in 2 like that is a real statement, especially at 20. pllana has never been stopped, and has been in with some other decent prospects too (and beaten/drawn with some of them). kid is a sharp puncher with two handed power and freakish length for the weight.......defo the most impressive of the dazn american prospects for me

244 of the 249 final punches landed by Gonzalez were power punches

Don’t know what Max DeLuca was watching. 4 rounds to JCM.
He won 2 rounds MAX!
His game plan was crap. Did he think he could KO Choco? Having his hands low most the fight.

Gonzalez is just sensational, his rhythm and flow in there truly is a joy to behold. Tremendous inside, always in position to punch and the accuracy combined with punch variety, amazing stuff. True legend of the game.
Enjoyable undercard too actually! Lara has some serious firepower, you don't want to be standing in front of him unless you want a pasting. Actually thought he'd been hurt a little to the body before he unleashed hell and ended proceedings

Where does one begin after seeing these two brilliant warriors go toe to toe ?
I know....sensational performance by Gonzalez
He didn't put a foot, or a glove, wrong !
His pressure, offence and defence were just masterful. Poetry in motion.
His entry into the boxing hall of fame is nothing more than a formality.
Martinez played his part, but ran into a little legend bordering on perfection.

It's mad how some things turn out, if Gonzalez got the nod in the first Rungvisai fight there would've been no rematch and if he got the win in the Estrada return he might have still been undefeated, still as long as he's back doing his thang

Roman Gonzalez saves boxing again.
Love reading the threads when he fights, everyone showing love and all agreeing for once.
Thought JCM’s tactics were shit, you can’t just keep asking someone to punch you and then not answering back. Mystifying.
Chocolatito was poetry as always; just so smooth it’s a joy.

part of that is just having a great gas tank, another part is that he almost never loads up or misses with homerun swings, everything very well chosen

Throwing 158 punches in a 12th round is bonkers. handsofstone wrote: ↑06 Mar 2022, 03:56 117-111 Gonzalez for me, I actually had Martinez 3-2 up but after Gonzalez hurt him in the 6th he took over and won every round after, he was amazing again, the fluidity, the angles, punch picking, leading, countering, footwork, balance, variety, lock, stock the facking lot, the volume has dropped a tiny bit but still has a great workrate, love the way how he pierces the straight shots through Martinez's high guard, the left hooks to head and body were razor sharp
Most guys at around this weight class are done at this stage but Gonzalez ageing like a fine wine and still p4p top 10 clearly, Martinez one hard hombre, never gave up but got seriously outclassed in there, these guys never fail to deliver
Meanwhile, a long way away from Planet Earth, the acknowledgement (and perhaps indeed the understanding) of Roman's amazing skill is not, unfortunately, universal:

reading his posts is like spending years digging through an utterly massive pile of sh!t, hoping that you might find something worthwhile in it, only to realize it was just all sh!t and now you stink horribly and have gained nothing for your efforts

its just, that painful disjunction, between his self-perception as this sage old-school knowledgeable dude dispensing pearls of wisdom to dese kids nowadays... and the horrific truth that he doesn't see great skill in what Roman does. that gap, it's just excruciating to see .
