Ron's best comment for me has to be "his cheeks are exhaling like a set of bellows"

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Growing up with Reg and Harry I sometimes think all commentators say way too much. Be a bit more relaxed. It's okay for there to be a few seconds where nothing is said.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
I love his passion on the radio - but it is poorer than Costello. He spends so long using his many words you lose track of the action.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Mar 2022, 10:05You can hear him on BBC Radio at times.
"A good jab by Joe Blogs a real ramrod of a weapon remeniscent of the great Larry Holmes in the 1980s and a real trade mark of Joe Blogs' own game" - wastes about 20 second and in that time the opponent has landed 2 counters.

Yep I can't follow - he talks around a single shot so much that you don't know what has happened.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 15:30He has passion yes. It’s like non stop. Re: Adam Smith Commentary
They were the best but there were some good old school boxing commentators in the UK in the 80s/90s. Check out this clip of KOs from that time. I think Reg Gutteridge is on commentary. Jim McDonnell seems like he was a decent commentator. Dave "Boy" McAuley was funny, "OH MY WORD!!!"
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
The other point... The co-commentator... Don't repeat yourself over and over.
Barry Jones is the best for me.

Don't hear much about Jim Mac nowadays .TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 19:13

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
That’s Dave Brenner on most of those clips, not Reg. he could be a bit partridge but wasn’t bad at all. I always liked McAuley on commentary but McDonnell always grated and struggled for words sometimes.

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
I like the low key aspect but there is genuine excitement when the KO shot happens but they don't go overboard. It's chalk and cheese when you compare it to Adam Smiths constant growling orgasms. Brenner seems like he was one of the best commentators.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Yeah it’s awful when you watch stuff now. Brenner was good, I don’t think he was necessarily a boxing guy as he was a former journalist but he certainly had an understated style. His oh no that’s just what we were worried about when Jackson poleaxed Graham seems genuine.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑11 Mar 2022, 08:48I like the low key aspect but there is genuine excitement when the KO shot happens but they don't go overboard. Nice trip down Memory Lane, thanks. Gary Delaney's left hook was something special.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 19:13

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Yeah that was a super left hook. Tight and crisp. Jimmy Mac got flattened in that first clip. Really brutal left hook that. Vice seems like a puncher going off his record. Darren Corbett also seemed like a funny fighter, those celebrations
They have two more clips of British KO's from that time period that I enjoyed too. Again super commentary compared to Adam Smiths screaming. Francis Ampofo looks like he packed power. I have to say that Nicky Piper is handy on commentary.
It's a pretty cool era of boxing. I saw Brendan Ingle smoking a cigar at ringside during one clip
