Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
What do you think.
Could Canelo swipe a Cruiserweight strap in a one off fight ?
Kind of like a smash and grab for him so to speak and then go back down in weight.
Great for his legacy and he's priming.
Roy Jones didn't do it priming, Roy went to Heavyweight and missed Cruiserweight.
A one off quickie so to speak if the opportunity presented itself would be something for Canelo.

Thats his plan December isnt it? and Makabu will just wait till then, canelo will get the green belt fighting an under skilled, under sized cruiserweight world champ... Still a good fight, and a brave move. But its not like he is fighting a real top cruiser.

Okolie has the WBO.
Get Canelo over to England for a one off.
They could make it if they wanted to.
Be off the charts for England to have an actual pound for pound number one perform there close to prime.

Why not ?
Amend the contract and squeeze it in after Cinco.

Re: Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
okolie is 6'5, 82 inch reach, 220lb, can jab, can whack and can hold.... Canelo isnt going after that.
If canelo thought he could deal with that kinda size he would of fought trevor bryant for the Heavyweight WBA reg belt...
okolie is 5 inches taller, 15 lbs heavier, 8 inches more reach and better than makabu... if canelo is smash and grabbing a cruiser belt its makabus... (Unless briedis looked absolutlyyy awful vs jai but still scrapes a win..)

220 pound 6'5 with a WBO strap.
I'd consider it for a one off.

It would be. I'd also consider it a good scalp If Loma beat Tyson fury. But it's unfortunately another fight we will never see.Evander wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 05:01Be a good scalp.gregregegg wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 04:34okolie is 6'5, 82 inch reach, 220lb, can jab, can whack and can hold.... Re: Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
Lawrence Okolie is 29 years of age and he said he struggled to make the 200lbs cruiserweight limit for two of his last three training camps.
He’s planning to make an imminent move to the bridgerweight division, en route to eventually becoming a fully-fledged full-time heavyweight.
Okolie is almost the same height as Anthony Joshua. And between fights, his physique is only slightly more diminutive than AJ’s.
Lawrence Okolie looked very ordinary indeed during his most recent outing against the less-than-stellar Michal Cieslak, suggesting the Brit may be struggling with his weight more than he’s willing to admit.
Put it this way, if Okolie is tight at the 200lbs weight limit, then I’d favour Canelo to beat him.
It wasn’t that long ago people felt that Callum Smith was far too big for Canelo, but the Mexican handled him with consummate ease. Canelo seems to be in his comfort zone dealing with tall fighters.
I get what people are saying though, because Okolie should be too big for Canelo, but the Brit is a giant cruiserweight that appears to be struggling to make weight.
And a weight-drained iteration of Lawrence Okolie is no match for Canelo.
Except for Okolie though, then I think that Canelo beats the best of the rest at 200lbs without too much trouble, because the division is now weaker than it used to be.

Callum smith is nearly 40 lbs lighter than okoie.... dealing with smiths size is impressive, but fornicate its a long way from dealing with okolies size.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 08:33 Lawrence Okolie is 29 years of age and he said he struggled to make the 200lbs cruiserweight limit for two of his last three training camps.

Canelo is a wepon, but i think he gets 1-2 grabbed an stopped eventualy.
Unless okolie nearly dies on the scales its just too much size difference.
Re: Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
Sure. If he picks the weakest, and loads up on mexican beef.
Re: Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
He's already implied that he intended to, with Makabu as the intended opponent. The theory is that he probably could. If he can beat Kovalev, he should be able to maybe beat the worst cruiserweight champion. However, I personally would prefer that he clear out one division and become undisputed, move up, and repeat. I hate when boxers go up a division, win a belt, come back down, fight some more in the lower division, and never become undisputed. He could've been undisputed in the middleweight division if he wasn't moving-up to fight Rocky Fielding in the middle of his run. Imagine if he was already 2x undisputed and targeting a third undisputed championship at LHW, it would be completely historic.

Still like to see to him take a crack at one of the Cruiserweights if he could.

Canelo could beat Fury if they met at a 190lb catchweight.

I wonder how many limbs fury would need to beat me.
obviously he wins 2 legs 1 arm.... but what about 1 leg 1 arm boxing rules? is he any good at hopping?...what about no legs 2 arms... could he get around on stumps well enough to fold me? no legs 1 arm i think i got him beat, mabey.

cut off both fury's arms and legs, and let me fight with egg weight floppy gloves, then i might have a 50-50 chance
Re: Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
Yes but what happens if strawweight champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong packs on 80 pounds to move up 15 weight classes and challenge this half dead cruiserweight Fury?
Re: Canelo ... Could he smash and grab a Cruiserweight title and go back down ?
Point taken.
All kinds of things can happen happen at Cruiserweight, half of them will be tempted up to Heavyweight because that's where the money is.
