Boxerbeetle wrote: 09 Mar 2022, 12:14 Plenty of us were scoring the fight RBR on this very thread, not exactly hard to go back and see what we were thinking in real time. I seem to recall I stopped bothering to post my scores after I had it something like 6-1 Catt, because it seemed pointless, Taylor just wasn’t going to (legitimately) win on the scorecards.

I wonder how many of us also posted something like “IJL as a judge, fix will be in” before the fight even started ? But what do we know, eh. :maybe:
You've missed my point entirely. I'm not saying your score is wrong, and I've said on another thread that I think all three judges got it wrong, not just one. My point is that if you know how other people are scoring the matter as you go, you are in different conditions from those that the judges experience - that's all.

Did anyone on here actually score it for Josh? None of this “I can see how Loughlin got his score, was close rounds, ect).
Did anyone score it live for Taylor?

Cheers.
To get Victor Loughlin’s score you are literally giving ALL the close rounds to Taylor. To me that’s not on.
It’s not like you had an orthodox pressure fighter against a sniping southpaw. In that case I can understand having a preference for a style.
But Taylor and Catteral are very similar fighters and it’s easy to seperate and share out the very close rounds.

I actually give Taylor 3 out of the 5 close rounds and still had it wide for Cat.
This is an absolute robbery of the very highest standards.

Press release issued by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Following an internal review of the scoring of the Josh Taylor v Jack Catterall contest by all three appointed judges, the Stewards of the Board decided to call Mr. Ian John-Lewis to appear before them to explain his returned card.

Having considered Mr. Ian John-Lewis’ explanation, the Stewards of the Board decided to downgrade Mr. John-Lewis from an A Star Class to an A Class Official.

Whilst the Board were satisfied that Mr. John-Lewis’ scorecard (114-111 Taylor) did not affect the overall result of the contest, the Stewards of the Board did have issue with his margin.

As the regulatory body for the Sport in Great Britain the British Boxing Board of Control continue to improve and maintain the high quality and consistency in scoring by our licensed officials. As such, the Stewards of the Board have further decided that in addition to each A Star Class Official being evaluated after each bout, as per current procedure, they will now also be subject to a separate individual annual review.

Finally, the British Boxing Board of Control have contacted the WBO, WBC, IBF and WBA supporting Jack Catterall to be made mandatory challenger for each or all Championship Sanctioning Bodies.

So the board happy with the decision to give Taylor a win.. they just a little output by the margin.
“Iain John Lewis’ card didn’t effect the result of the fight”.
That’s a belter. If boxing wasn’t so detestable that would make a great meme.

Pathetically inadequate. One guy gets demoted a bit, the overall shambles of a scoring isn't questioned, and they now have annual reviews. Woop-de-fornicating hoo

The part of the statement that says "the Board were satisfied that Mr. John-Lewis’ scorecard (114-111 Taylor) did not affect the overall result of the contest" leaves me a little confused. By definition, the two scorecards (including IJL's) in favour of Taylor affected the overall result of the contest because they were the two cards that ruled in his favour. They determined the result. The only scorecard that "did not affect the overall result of this contest" is the card of the judge who voted for Catterall, as he was outvoted.

Yeh, had it been a split decision win for Catterall, and IJL had that one score for Taylor, then yes, it wouldn't have affected the outcome of how wide the score was,..

Mabey its just because im so pessimistic, but i actually take that as a slight win. Ian john lewis is one of the top boys and for him to get demoted is a big deal and Yearly reviews are good.

Basicaly the board came to the decision that that 113-112 taylor was defensible, but 114-111 was not. which is walking a pretty tight line for BBBoC to walk.

What does not make sense is they claim Ian john lewises card didnt effect the outcome.... implying they think taylor winning is fair, Yet ask all the sanctioning bodys to make jack catteral mandatory? evere seen BBBoC as 4 belts to make someone mandatory of the back of what they consider a fair loss?

They can’t tell someone how they should score it so I assume they meant even if IJL made it slightly closer, but with Taylor still winning the fight, then it wouldn’t have affected the overall result. I guess they picked on IJL purely because his scorecard was a lot wider than most people could understand, not that they had an issue with him thinking Taylor won. Otherwise they would have called in the other judge who had Taylor winning too.

Jack has signed with Probellum. I’m surprised he didn’t sign with Boxxer to be honest but I guess Kinahan has deep pockets.

If you are surprised then you aren’t following boxing closely enough.

MTK = Probellum.

Of course.

I just thought Boxxer would have gone hard for him, particularly with how Shalom has spoken about him.

Sky’s been doing great viewing figures wise too whilst Eurosport isn’t going to do a quarter of that. Probably even less.

The deal with Probellum is all about the Eurosport/BT/Discovery vehicle.

Things are getting very tasty.

Albeit fairly sickening if you think about how boxing is now being funded/underwritten.
