Yesh, not like Benn while Algieri was limp face down.
Round-by-Round: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood - 12 March 2022

How can you not appreciate Leigh Wood?
Overmatched by a superior boxer, put down in the first and hurt a few times after that.
He just grafted out a breakdown of Conlan, and stopped him.
First defence and showed the heart of a champion
Fingers crossed for Conlan. That was a legit KO.

Did anyone else think this fight was very similar to Benn/McClellan?

It did remind me a bit of Benn vs McLennan but also Cotto vs Margacheato.skanksta wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 03:02Are you insinuating?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 02:15 btw leigh wood has scored his last 7 wins by stoppage, maybe dudes got hammer hands now![]()

Frotch was saying Wood carrys his power late. It was the only correct thing he has said in commentary this decademargaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 02:15 btw leigh wood has scored his last 7 wins by stoppage, maybe dudes got hammer hands now![]()

I backed the draw and Wood win by SD. So close …handsofstone wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 21:08 If Wood won the 12th and it went points he would've got a draw, I can't agree with that

Re: Round-by-Round: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood - 12 March 2022
Great fight. I didn’t score it properly but I felt Wood needed the KO in the 12th to win.
Glad to hear Conlan’s ok. I thought he looked great early doors. Wood deserves a lot of credit. He did amazingly to come back from that heavy first round knockdown (he sounded concussed in his corner after the first round). The big downside is that we’ll have at least a few weeks of hearing Davison tell everyone how good he is.
Re: the show, I think 2 women’s fights is too much. I like womens boxing more than most but I think having 20 rounds of it takes the energy out of the show. Cully looked strong and I always like Agyarko but I think he needs to be kept active to stay sharp and improve. He reminds me of a less classy Kell Brook. I’m beginning to really like Costello as the lead commentator. I never listened to his radio work and was on the fence a little bit with him on his first shows with DAZN but, out of the U.K. play-by-play guys, he’s my favourite now although I’d always rather listen to him with Andy Lee.

His power is real. He's dropped people in a lot of the fights he didn't win by stoppage too. He's got the mentality of a puncher also, very willing to sit in the pocket with bullets coming at him and return fire to get his own shots off.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 02:15 btw leigh wood has scored his last 7 wins by stoppage, maybe dudes got hammer hands now![]()

Good post. I think the womens fights are ok as long as they are competitive. Harper is just a very basic fighter who is going to stink out a venue. Agyarko put on a stinker also. He's a horrible watch, sitting there trying to pot shot counter for the night. Sandy Ryan was at least in a competitive and fairly enjoyable fight but that was down to the matchmaking actually being good and she got a great learning fight. Not sure she should be staying with Clifton Mitchell after that. Missed weight and looking very poor in there at times. No variety.maverick23 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 05:11 Great fight. I enjoyed the Agyarko fight and I don’t think it was a stinker. I do really like/rate him though so I may be biased. I think he tried a little too hard to impress which tends to go the other way.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 05:14Good post. I think the womens fights are ok as long as they are competitive. I liked the Sandy Ryan fight in the end. Agree with your comments though - she’s extremely basic. I hadn’t realised she missed weight - not a good look.
If the Harper fight was replaced with another competitive mens fight then I think it’d be a really good show but I zoned out a fair bit for it. I know she sells tickets so either have her as the only womens fight or whack her on the prelims.

Darn right, and he is a grafter, he put in a fair bit of work before he had success. Which is even more exceptional considering his hard KD and the couple of rounds it took him to steady.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 05:12His power is real. Re: Round-by-Round: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood - 12 March 2022
Conlan wants a rematch, and Wood would be mad to offer it to him.
I doubt he could pull that off twice in a row.
Conlan is obviously the superior boxer, and had what it takes to sit Wood on his backside.
Leigh should move on. Great first defence, but maybe a soft one up next
