He often put a lot into the rounds he was winning.

I also think Wood's work was being overlooked because Conlan would dodge 3 of the 5 shots in a cluster, but many were still getting through.
For me I thought Conlan was the one getting the better of the exchanges. He was rolling and finishing off with hooks to the body and head and was the boss until he faded. I only gave woods 3 rounds going into the 12th

Outrageous fight, was sat speechless for several minutes after that finish, just wow. How Wood was taking those shots in the 11th and still kept coming forward I'll never know, what a warrior.

I think part of Conlon's problem was that IMO he has always come across as someone who is entitled, in the sense of capturing a world title, especially if someone unheralded like Wood is in the opposite corner.

In other words, Conlon isn't as good as he thought he was.

I listened to the radio coverage whilst I was pottering round this morning, I’ll catch up with the fight later but the radio coverage did make it sound like Wood was gradually getting through to Conlan more as the night went on even if Conlan was still landing loads himself. Big Ron on top form on the commentary :yay:

Bellew doesn’t think that the 11th round knockdown was a knockdown? It looked iffy in real time but the replays shows that Conlan was hit with a shot and whether he got tangled up before hitting the deck, he was definitely caught.

Anyway, regardless of who was up on the cards, when you get a brutal finish like that, what does it really matter?!

Bellew also said the only reason Galahad got flatlined by Martinez was coz he was weight drained 🚮

Some will say because it shows Yu how the fight would have gone. Which fair enough I do understand.

That’s why I like fights ending inside the distance. So judges are not needed.

Also, Bellew was trying to make a case yes. But for once I agreed with Froch. If a fighter ‘slips’ but if hit before the slip, it’s a KD isn’t it?

Bellew is just a fake person. He puts this act on. The way he comes across on social media and even say on punditry. It’s rather cringe.

Mind you he was like that when he boxed too.

Bellend was actually saying in his Tweets that the knockdown (that wasn't, in his opinion) directly led to Wood stopping Conlan, because it gave Wood a renewed belief in his punch power that had gone !

So again, while "not taking anything away from Wood" Bellend makes such claims ignoring the fact that Wood has won fights late and his determination and power remain intact.....just ask Conlan :maybe:

I know mate I’m just pissed off I missed the big drama show! I even popped on here saw Conlan knocked him down and dominated early I just thought ah that’s it, then saw someone posting that wood needed a KO around round 10 and I was thinking yeah that was just a schooling I missed nothing there

In many of the exchanges, he was. Bot not all of them.

I had Conlan 3 points up going into the 12th. But had no problem with Bellew's score either.

It was one of the most courageous performances ever seen in a British ring. Conlan deserves huge credit for his bravery too.

It was a clear knockdown in my eyes and possibly a better shot that the one that finished it , the slip came after the punch was landed .

I thought Conlan looked super nervous and was trying to mask it quite badly, whereas Wood looked like ice.
Cracking win, but you have to question is Conlan all that.
Quick hands, good straight left but lack of engine, variation and killer instinct is a worry.
It’s not like he’s young or got a novice trainer.
Be good to see him fight Jazza Dickens.

Good points. I think both boxers would have learnt a great deal from that fight. The concern though is how much those lessons have taken it out of them.

Getting stopped like that it takes an incredible character to reform, learn and progress.
He looked pretty small compared to Wood and Wood’s size was definitely a factor.
Any chance Conlan can make super bantam?

I was thinking about it earlier whether it’s an issue with Booth’s training regime. His fighters tend to throw extremely hard shots and if they don’t take out their opponents early then they can sometimes struggle in the middle/later rounds.

What a fight! Think both fighters stock has risen significantly after that.

Mick seemed to put an awful lot into the early rounds after the knockdown, trying to finish it and left himself short on gas for the later rounds. Would 100% love to see them do it again.

What a fight though. I'd like to see a rematch
I know right?
Woodie only got his hand on the phone after he had been clocked- like he was remembering what he was taught from a previous trainer...

I watched the fight again and though Wood maintained the center of the ring throughout the fight he fought the first 8-10 rounds from the wrong distance. His head continuously sat on the end of Conlans left hand loop. Once Wood put his double guard up and pushed in tight to Conlan, that’s where all of his damages were made. Inside fighting was the key for Wood and he took a beating attempting to find the right range in order to do his work. What an F’ng fight. Classic all time great fight that is in my top 5 for sure

Last night I thought this was a career ending loss for Conlan but seeing him today he looks cool, he's not as different to Jamie as first thought, that negative style he's shown would've sealed the deal

Great fight and an incredible finish. Ruthless and conclusive.

Credit to both lads. I’d love a rematch.

I can see Conlan winning that wide.
Let's face it, Wood was only winning the first 2 minutes of round 1, and the last minute of round 12.
At no other point in the fight was he ahead.
It's only a pleather belt, let Woodie keep it and make a few bucks. It's about his ceiling.
Conlan on the other hand, should be working hus way towards a shot at a real belt.

Harsh. I was no fan of Wood but after round 7 he was picking up rounds.
If Conlan gets knocked down in the last and survives I’d have had Wood winning by 1 point.
Conlan’s work-ethic, timing and pop went in the 2nd half of the fight.
If Conlan wants to be a star he needs to improve his variation, engine and learn not to sit on the ropes when fatigued against someone who’s had 6 KOs on the bounce.
No way was this fight one-sided after 11 rounds.
