My mistake. A little before my time, but I remember the two Paul Weir wins (watched the first live and for some reason we only got a clip of the end of the second one on ITV, despite the main event going in one round) and the Clinton one is well known up here.Shhhh wrote: ↑12 Nov 2019, 07:47Nah Macauley ko’d Him he was considered a joke defence at the time oddlyGreg Houston wrote: ↑12 Nov 2019, 06:36 Baby Jake Matlala beat Dave McAuley, Pat Clinton, Francis Ampofo, Paul Weir (twice) and Mickey Cantwell (twice)

Speaking of Sweden, Ingemar Johansson must've had a few British fighters, I know he beat Erskine & Cooper, think he might have fought Bygraves a couple of times too.Shhhh wrote: ↑11 Nov 2019, 11:20 At a low level Roland Ericsson. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/31528
Also Ole klemetsen - beat Crawford ashley and some journeyman https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/7422
I think pro boxing was banned in sweden

Brit bashers = British hardcore fans who want to see Brits lose and cheer against them/bash them just to spite Ed Hearn

I notice Keith Holmes took the unbeaten records of Richie Woodhall and Robert McCracken on stoppages. No one ever mentions Holmes these days but I bet you he'd have been top 5-6 MW in today's division.

Re: Brit Bashers..
Quite a few of Bernard Hopkins middle weight opponents seemed to be very diminished afterwards. Not necessarily from any sort of physical beating but in the eyes of the boxing community. Keith Holmes was more of a technical boxer, who didn’t have the strength and power to make a fresh start at super middle.
Re: Brit Bashers..
Danish Promoter Mogens Palle used British fighters extensively on his cards in the 1970s and '80s. His fighter Jorgen Hansen beat 19 British opponents.

IIRC he and McCauley were mates and sparring partners, and Dave didn't think it was an easy touchShhhh wrote: ↑13 Nov 2019, 14:18Greg Houston wrote: ↑13 Nov 2019, 04:19

Re: Brit Bashers..
Amazingly he had a terrible time on these shores (losing three of four) but he was ancient when he dropped decisions to Terry Downes and Coventry brawler Mick Leahy (who looked lucky), and Nigeria's Johnny Angel gave him a belting for three rounds before the 43-year-old Robinson asserted himself and won in the sixth in London in 1964.
He also lost here to Randy Turpin of course when much closer to his prime.

What will it be if he beats JJ?

"Mad" Mitch Green was a Brit basher in his amateur days, stopping Stewart Lithgo and Kenny March over here while representing New York.

I can remember Buster Drayton beating Cable and Kaylor in consecutive bouts, both seen as upsets at the time

I’d imagine top 3. He’s certainly on a par with Demetrius Andrade. They are probably actually quite similar fighters.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Nov 2019, 23:32 I notice Keith Holmes took the unbeaten records of Richie Woodhall and Robert McCracken on stoppages. I think it’s a bit of a tragedy that fighters like David Tetteh got sent off to obscurity after a good bit of Brit Bashing. He really leathered Billy Schwer.

I think Earl had a controversial decision going his way and this was all by the time the Russian was 20!
Then he disappeared

Roy Jones jr had mixed results with us lads. He beat Clinton Woods and Fry but lost to McCallum, Enzo and Calzaghe. Oh, and he beat Woodhall in The Olympics. Richie was holding his feet.
