Belcastro had an incredible engine. Just looking at his record, the Italian went the full 12 rounds a whopping 22 times in his long career, including the 12 he took a young Naz of course.

i never actually saw Romanov at the time I just remember hearing he absolutely sliced the likes of Thaxton and Vanzie apart

I was at that fight at York Hall. Thaxton swung and missed some bombs but just kept eating counters. Romanov well and truly gored him. He looked so good, I still can't believe that fight was basically the end of him. I stood ringside next to him after the fight and he was short but built like a tank (Thaxton ditto).

I then got my picture taken with Jim Watt and failed to make a remotely convincing fist.

He killed someone in some sort of RTA, had a while away from the sport due to the crash (and then later being in prison) and kept threatening to make a comeback. I think he's still unbeaten and fighting up at cruiser.

You should do a worst boxer to be a passenger in the car with. There's dozens.

This thread caught my eye. Some folks with long memories posting here!

I'll throw in a couple that I don't believe have been mentioned.

Cuban heavyweight Nino Valdes won three fights by KO/TKO in the UK, against Don Cockell, Dick Richardson and Brian London (the fight with London was stopped due to a cut).

Germany's former European heavyweight champion Karl Mildenberger beat a string of British boxers. Mildenberger started out as a light-heavy: British boxers he defeated: Arthur Howard, Ron Redrup, Alex Buxton, Joe Bygraves (born in Jamaica but longtime resident of Birkenhead), Joe Erskine and Billy Walker. Mildenberger basically beat up a game Walker in eight rounds in a European title fight in London. But Dick Richardson KO'd Mildenberger in one round in Dortmund in a big upset, while in his last fight, at Wembley, a shot Mildenberger got himself DQ'd for butting Henry Cooper.

Guy Gracia of France has been mentioned. As I recall, the Brit writers back in the 1950s dubbed Gracia "The destroyer of British lightweights."
