Yes, heart. That's what would make the difference. Obviously Patterson's big weakness.

Well aside from having more heart, Holyfield is also bigger, stronger, more versatile than Patterson. Patterson's speed, and elusiveness could see him do well early on, but Holyfield eventually catches up to him, and beats him up whenever he closes the range on him. As the fight goes on, and Holyfield catches up to him more and more it gets easier, and he stops Patterson somewhere later on in the fight.

Did Holyfield really have more heart?
Holyfield had a lot, but so did Patterson.

The big difference between the two is chin. Patterson had a weak chin and Holyfield had a great one. Take that out of the equation and they are pretty evenly matched.
However, obviously you can't do that. Eventually Holyfield would probably stop him. He would win 4 out 5 times.
