Fury to be tested for PEDs

Post by Wales »

British boxing board of control have confirmed they will be testing Tyson for PEDs imminently following some behind the scenes shenanigans. Fury and Whyte both agreed they could be tested in the run up to their fight but as Fury has a boxing license with Nevada and not the British Boxing Board of Control it turned out technically they couldn’t.

BBBoC now overturned that “rule” and will test the big man.

Pretty sure this is all about nothing and he will be negative (Whyte too)… although both have been banned for PEDs before

How is the BBBofC (via UKAD) going to administer their drug testing protocols if Fury’s training camp is in the US?

Tyson’s most recent training camps have been in Las Vegas, being tested under the VADA protocols (as per the WBC's CBP), which doesn’t adhere to WADA.

Whereas UKAD, which is used by the BBBofC, follows WADA’s rules.

Basically, UKAD and VADA have different standards, meaning it’s possible for a fighter to be deemed as being “clean” by one anti-doping organisation, but not the other.

Fury’s training in the U.K. for this fight.
That's interesting to know and rare, because his training camps within the last six years have all been in the US.

My understanding was that for his US fights he trains in the States and for U.K. fights he trains in the U.K.

Are you sure his camps for Seferi/Pianeta were in the US?!

Only based on reading a couple of articles.

I think the Manchester Evening News website covered it within the last week or so.

All his camps have been in USA for last 6 years?
He only made his comeback 4 years ago in 2018. He never fought in 2016 or 2017.

He trained in Hattons gym for pianetta then relocated to vegas for Wilder 1

Regardless - he’s still registered to Nevada state athletic commission but he’s training at home in morecombe UK for this fight.

Surely this has had the WBC random Vada testing though at least? otherwise drug testing starting 4 weeks out is absolutly not good enough.

Seemingly not as Dillion Whyte had a legal team involved to get the BBBOC to confirm they would test him. It’s only now they have confirmed he will fight as an international fighter against Whyte thus being subject to UK doping agency testing .

Crazy considering both have been banned for PEDs before and Fury remains under investigation in the UK due to claims made he paid someone to provide a false alibi when he missed a drugs test.

Such a shame Dillian has a sketchy doping record... Would of been nice to have someone able to really pubicly call out this bulshit. But dillian isnt really in a position too. If you had zero blemmishes on your record you would be pretty vocal about Fury weezling the system to get out of drug testing.

It’s crazy

Whyte was banned for 2 years for providing a sample positive for steroids. 6 months later the ban was lifted because the testing agency said the amount they found was very very low.

Canelo failed 2 drugs tests and got a one year ban reduced to 6 months because he co operated with the investigation.

Tyson Fury fails a drug test in 2015, argues the point, eventually it’s confirmed in 2017 he was positive so he gets a 2 year ban but it’s backdated so he’s already served the ban and is free to box immediately.

Jones jnr tested 6 times over the limit in early 2000s but it was ignored when his legal team put a case forward that it was caused by a nasal spray.

The inconsistency and incredibly lenient consequences are astonishing.

- Canelo never "failed" a drug test. In the middle of multiple testing, he tested positive for ghost nanograms of Clenbuterol consistent with local food contamination found in every area of the world well below the "fail" threshold. Drug testing "experts" said hair follicle testing was the most reliable, and so he gave up a few follicles that were all negative for PEDs. Canelo was then suspended by the "Vegas" Commish suddenly WOKE with a Zero Drug Tolerance Policy. The same misanthropes who needed to rejigger their official amalgamated scorecards before granting a 2 week backdated TUE to give Floyd Jr a sanctimonious sanctioned win over Manny, a $600 Million fight. The local grade schools could've provided more reliable oversight.

Jones and his opponent, Richard Hall tested positive for steroids per Boxrec-Both Jones and Hall tested positive for anabolic steroids after the fight. "Jones was five or six times over an acceptable level," said Jacob Hall, who was chairman of the Indiana State Athletic Commission. "Hall was about ten times above an acceptable level." Jones insisted his positive test was the result of ingesting the supplement Ripped Fuel. No penalties or suspensions were issued because Indiana, like many states, had no legal authority to test for steroids. The IBF sent letters to Jones and Hall informing each man that he had tested positive for an unspecified anabolic steroid, but no further action was taken.

Hall also claimed to have used an over the counter supplement, both most likely spiked with Androstenedione that was perfectly legal back then found next to the Tylenol, Decongestants, vitamins, ect. I doubt 22 yrs ago Indiana even had a formal drug testing protocol in place.

Any of you boys ever been drug tested? I was and I didn't like it when I saw what a Mickey Mouse operation it was. Fortunately the lab cleared me, but could've just as easily got me mixed in with someone else or otherwise botched my sample as badly as you have botched your "example" :TU:

Canelo failed two drugs tests and subsequently the WBC lowered the levels allowed . He served a 6month ban before returning to fight GGG.

Personally I think they’re all at it it’s just how not to get caught

In 2018, Canelo served a six-month suspension between the GGG bouts for testing positive once for clenbuterol (two samples administered by VADA).

The NSAC also performed hair follicle tests on Canelo and they came back negative for any traces of clenbuterol. They also conceded that there was no suspicion whatsoever of the Mexican intentionally doping.

The WBC, USADA and WADA (which covers lots of sports, not just boxing) subsequently increased the threshold for testing positive for clenbuterol, because it was deemed impossible to determine whether failed tests were due to ingesting contaminated meat or genuine doping.

They also felt that is was unreasonable to assume that athletes, especially those residing in Mexico and China, could avoid consuming contaminated meat that contained traces of clenbuterol (since that drug isn't globally banned in livestock farming).

Under the new/currently existing policy rules, Canelo would have never tested positive for a banned substance or served a suspension, which means he would have almost certainly engaged in the GGG rematch much earlier.

For the record, WADA isn’t directly affiliated with VADA – their rules aren’t the same.

WADA deals with all sports, not just boxing, and them changing their rules had nothing whatsoever to do with Canelo.
