Joe Calzaghe any update?

No doubt there will be a few posts on this thread by Pepsi, but I'm just wandering if anyone in the know has heard anything of Joe Calzaghe's next opponent.

I've notice he is off the boxrec schedule completely and the one time muted opponent Allan Green (a fight I would have accepted if not championed) now looks set to fight Jeff Lacy later on this year - in a mouthwatering contest - both appear to be a level down from Joe, but it looks a good clash of styles.

Is it a simple wait till next year for Johnson (if he beats Woods) or will there be a fight late in 2006.

seems to me they're biding their time. hoping that Johnson beats Woods so that Glen & Warrior's come back to England with the IBF title. Or maybe in America - HBO need a big name around 168-175. Would they go for the proven but fragile (& therefore unreliable...) Calzaghe? Or the unproven but promising Chad Dawson?

SN & Calzaghe are foolhardy if they let that momentum slip, from the Lacy win.

Imo Dawson is proven. But not as proven as calzaghe, and doesnt have Joe's fanbase. So HBO will probably opt for Cal and the quick money, but if Dawson gets his shot right now he would grab it with both hands.

he proved himself v Harding. What I mean is, proven beyond doubt at world championship level, which Calzaghe is. Dawson certainly has the goods. I've been watching more of his fights. This guy was being treated as Jeff Lacy's shadow, stuck fighting on Lacy undercards. Lacy getting beaten was great for Dawson, given that Shaw is an ambitious type of promoter (sometimes to the detriment of his fighters' careers - Mosley & Lacy- and health -Corrales) of Nietzschean proportions. Chad is being put in the forefront now. Dawson obviously has plenty of tools. I have a feeling that there will be a clash - at least of interests - between Calzaghe and Dawson. Both want that IBF 175-lb title. Woods-Johnson is going to have a huge bearing on light heavyweight.

Woods-Johnson 3 is going to blow their previous fights awy. That, plus Adamek-Briggs II is going to show ppl that 175-pounds is on fire.

Totally agree...by the way, there seem to be rumblings on here that should Woods win, he may opt out of fighting Joe. Any truth to that?

seems Woods' promoter is at odds with Warren, so much so that the mutual antagonism & petty bickering will never allow Woods v Calzaghe. My guess is, if Woods wins that Clinton will continue to fight in Sheffield, vs dull IBF mandatories (Julio bloody Gonzalez again) until Dawson is ready to challenge him.

Maybe Sports Network will come up with decent money to make it happen. They were talking about £400k for Woods in the past. Surely he'd take that he's getting far less for fighting Johnson.

Anyway this is all naysay Woods has to beat Johnson first, something he has failed to do in 2 previous fights. Granted Woods has looked better since then, but lets see how he handles Johnson before we get too excited!
