To be fair Selby's stock rose with the Kambosos win over Lopez. He ran Kambosos close and I dont have an issue with that base on the closness of that fight. In fact in some ways it's good cos no way will a promoter give him a meaningful fight

i think his stock didnt rise at all with him being out for as long as he has and not winning since 2019. maybe just lee and his family are sitting here today and going on about how impressive it is that lee ran kambo close (which mickey bey did too right before - 3 splits in a row for george)

actually fighting and winning almost always takes precedence over competitively losing to someone who then won a big fight. hardly anyone talking about mickey bey for the same reason

i have to rate my level of interest in lee selby's career pretty low atm, i thought kambo beat him clear too btw.

Lee Selby: Welshman to fight Gustavo Lemos in Argentina

Former IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby will fight in Argentina as he faces the undefeated Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator to meet lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr.

The fight is scheduled for Saturday, 26 March at Luna Park in Buenos Aires.

Selby lost a split decision to Kambosos at Wembley Arena in October 2020.

Lemos, 25, has won all of his 28 fights as a professional and is ranked third by the IBF, while 35-year old Selby is ranked fourth by the organisation.

The fight will be hosted in Argentina after Lemos' promoters won the purse bid and gives Selby a chance to become the first two-weight world champion from Wales.

"My final eliminator for the IBF Lightweight World Title is all set for 26 March at the historic Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina," Selby said.

"Trust me I'm ready and hungrier than ever to secure that world title shot."

Australian Kambosos stunned American Teofimo Lopez on a split decision in New York in November to hold the WBA, WBO and IBF lightweight belts.

Last Welshman who fought an Argentinian for a world title (yes, I know this is a world title eliminator!) at Luna Park was Dai Dower who faced the great Pascual Perez and it went a round! :verysad:

I am sure Selby will do better but it is going to be a hard ask out there, not an easy place to go out and win - big props for him taking it. :box:

NB: He actually didn't fight at Luna Park but at San Lorenzo's stadium - I used to live about a mile away from there.

Fight here if anyone hasn’t seen it. Selby has always had a good chin, but body shots chopped him down. Definitely needs to consider retiring.

Promising start from Selby, good movement and shooting out the jab and hitting Lemos with a few nice rights but Lemos kept coming and began landing rights of his own and kept the pressure on Selby who's always had a good chin and heart, Lemos proved too much though with those body shots, put Selby down at end of 4th with a left hook downstairs then kept the heat on, another whipping left had Selby down again in the 5th before a right hand to the body finished him off, Lemos looked good, strong and bull like, surely that's Selby done now

Looked like Lee didn't have the power to get Lemos's respect. Selby looked good when he boxed but Lemos stepped it up and Selby just couldn't keep him off.

Thanks BB, there was a bit of boxing on the weekend that caught my attention ahead of this.
Agree re: hang 'em up. Decent career, but when he can't keep lions off him with either power or movement, he is going to ship a lot of shots.

Thanks for this, just watched. Lemos looks a real handful, powerful fcuker and was relentless once he had Lee hurt.
