There were some very good ones in that era . Ill give some info from memory and guys I have seen fight.
Victor Galindez- hard guy very rugged style champ for awhile.
James Scott -convict fought on national tv from Rahway state Penn.
tough well conditioned. Had some good wins but couldnt
win parole.
Jesse Burnett-ex con solid pro some good wins.
Marvin Johnson-Good champ from Indiannapoilis kod Galindez
Matthew Saad Muhamed-Great warrior hugely entertaining.
Eddie Mustapha Muhamed-Good champ and very talented boxer/puncher.
holds a victory over a yound Matthew Saad.
Yaqui Lopez- solid contender from tough Stockton Calif. Wars with Saad
are legendary.
Jerry the bull Martin-strong fighter solid contender beat Scott at Rahway.
No easy feat.
Mike Rossman-Champ but only for a short while.Beat Galindez in a big
upset.
Dwight Muhamed Quawi- Camden Buzzsaw originaly known as
Dwight Braxton. Real good fighter. Beat saad
twice . Champ for awhile. Also clobbered Scott
at Rahway. Qwawi also an ex con.

A couple others who were solid fighters.
Jerry Celastine
Vonzell Johnson

It was a great time for the Light Heavies. Im sure I forgot a few.But Thats not really a top ten in order , for that I would put it as:

Mikchael Spinks
Eddie Mustapha
Quawi
Saad Muhamed
Marvin Johnson
Victor Galindez
James Scott
Yaqui Lopez
Mike Rossman
Jesse Burnett.

Check out this thread, it is on the very same topic that I was doing some research on not long ago.

expug sums it up nicely.

May I add John Conteh to the above list?

BB49 get hold of almost any 70's Saad Muhammad or Qawi fights on tape and you wont be dissappointed. :box:

If you don't have it already, get the Matthew Saad v Yaqui Lopez fight. Lopez beats Saad so bad, 10 out of 10 referees today would have stopped the fight, but Saad survives and scores a late stoppeage.
