This fight is a joke . The actions of Bena and his handlers speak louder than their words. They keep saying that Bena is so avoided and strong but when it comes about Andrade or moving up at 175 then we hear excuses or crickets. They just keep waiting for Canelo's payday.

lem's power isnt really proven at smw either
mw to smw can be a big difference. remember abraham. he could still rattle guys, but was hardly stopping any of them at smw

Looks ok on paper for Benavidez should he win.
Lemieux has some miles on the clock but carries a punchers chance at least.

Confirmed for Gila River Arena In Glendale, Arizona
Re: David Benavidez vs. David Lemieux | Showtime - May 21, 2022
Sure, until you see them in the ring and notice the size difference added to the age and milage.
I get what your saying, but unfortunately I see this as a mismatch. Lemmie's face is going to be mashed by the halfway point as he tries to get into range and eats jab after jab.
The poll on this thread pretty much says mismatch as well.

Poor fight! Bena should fight Andrade, Charlito or move up at 175, period!
Maybe Bena is taking no risky fights and just waits Canelo to get older enough?

I believe it's the other way around.
Imagine if Benavidez dismantles Lemieux better than Golovkin did?
He might find himself in the same position as GGG did.
A lot of pressure on Benavidez here. He needs to win in an attractive fight that will elevate him up to the financially bigger fights, otherwise his already bad risk/reward ratio might render him without any big name future opponents.
At the same time, Lemieux will remain dangerous at 168lbs.
I bet even getting Lemieux to sign was far from easy but the possibility of a 2023 Canelo fight for the winner must have been an incentive for Lemieux.
Lemieux would take that in a heartbeat even if it meant signing away everything but the purse.
The mighty Saul must have always his wicked prima Donna ways met before he deigns to step into the ring.
On the other hand I don't see Canelo facing Benavidez in the near future, if at all.
It's that old risk/reward factor factor.

Lemieux may only be 33 years old, but in boxing years, and after being absolutely battered by a prime GGG, he is 47.

Atm Lemieux is a washed up fighter with lots of mileage on his clock. Not the same fighter back when he fought G.
Poor fight. Bena and Charlito should fight each other and let their 0's go!

You could be right but checking on Wikipedia -
Lemieux vs. Ntetu
"On October 10, 2020, Lemieux fought and defeated Francy Ntetu in five rounds. Lemieux caught his opponent with big left hook and knocked him out to end the fight early."
Is David Lemieux really washed up?
At SMW?
I bet Benavidez won't be counting on that.
In any case Jermall doesn't seem remotely interested in Benavidez right now. Perhaps he should take the Jacobs fight whilst it's still got some interest?
All of this waiting for Canelo is robbing the sport of some good matchups.
It's been a slow year for boxing so far but hopefully soon we may see some big fights soon.
Re: David Benavidez vs. David Lemieux | Showtime - May 21, 2022
Ntetu is a puffed up knock over.
The sort guys like Bene and Lemmie use to pump up their stats.

Re: David Benavidez vs. David Lemieux | Showtime - May 21, 2022
No shame in getting knocked by prime GGG, or out boxed by prime version of Billy jo, But lemieux Recent home town SD is the real concern. Dropped twice, and gifted a decision vs a mabey top 50....
I still think this is Benavidezs best opponent, which isnt a glowing review of his resume. This should wind up being benevidez vs the scales.... if he makes weight healthy he will win, If he pushes himself to near death to get to 168 then lemieuxs becomes a live dog.

Re: David Benavidez vs. David Lemieux | Showtime - May 21, 2022
The answer is pretty simple. Back in November when Canelo announced he was going to cruiser next, DB asked for permission to fight for the WBC interim championship. Lemieux is ranked #2. That doesn't make DB chicken, not his fault.

Whats the point for a big guy like Bena to weight drain himself at 168 and fight washed up opponents , when he could move up at 175 and try to get the wbc title and then fight Canelo ?
Bena lost his chance at 168 to get a possible fight vs Canelo when he lost his title on the weight scale.

DB was what, 23 when that happened? He wasn't on Canelo's radar then, and isn't now. Canelo will continue to avoid guys that have styles that don't suit him.apollo creed wrote: ↑03 Apr 2022, 11:10 Whats the point for a big guy like Bena to weight drain himself at 168 and fight washed up opponents , when he could move up at 175 and try to get the wbc title and then fight Canelo ?

Re: David Benavidez vs. David Lemieux | Showtime - May 21, 2022
It's all looking good for fight fans as AJ v Usyk 2 now looks back on.
We also have GGG v Murata this Saturday April 9 followed by Whyte v Fury April 23 and then there's this one.
Should be an excellent couple of months coming up for fight fans who love action.
There's an awful lot hinging on these fights.
Benavidez for one, sounds confident. However, those that have beaten Lemieux usually did it by skill, not by blasting him out.
Another dramatic night coming up?
“I’m excited to be fighting for another belt, and I’m training extremely hard because it is another big opportunity for my career and future,” said Benavídez.
“David Lemieux still has a lot of power, so I have to make sure I sharpen all my skills 100 percent. I’m confident I can stop Lemieux and I’m planning on giving my fans another great fight on May 21.”
