"There being no chance of bringing the matter to a satisfactory conclusion, the referee ordered the men and principals to meet him in Birmingham in the evening.
Our correspondent wrote in a later telegram wrote that in a meeting of the backers of the men, held at the Red Lion, Hampton Street, the Referee (Mr. C. Bedford) insisted that the fight be finished and with, Harrington's party refusing to comply with the order, he declared Sheriff to be the victor"
