Mercer was tough, he would have some success earlier in the fight and would last until the end, but eventually Frazier would outfight Mercer and secure a solid dec win.

Smokin Joe would outhustle Mercer with some jabs, body punches, right hands and his big left hooks on the inside to take a decision.

Smokin' Joe by Unanimous decision.

As a matter of fact, has Ray Mercer ever been rocked or knocked down in a professional fight? He had a hell of a chin.

Holyfield knocked him down, but it looked more like a decision to take a knee after being hurt. Briggs and Wlad Klitschko dropped and stopped him, but he was old there.

Apart from that, he seemed visibly hurt against Morrison and Lewis, but he was able to overcome everything.

Thanks for the info. Because Tommy "The Duke" Morrison hit him with some awesome shots to the jaw and Ray Mercer didn't flinch. By the way, it was a great slugfest. One of the best of the 1990s.

I can imagine Smokin' Joe's wicked left hooks landing on Ray Mercer's face every time he throws it.

Frazier wins by UD in an all time great Heavyweight slugfest.

Mercer would definitely be tough enough to hang in there for the distance, and land his share of thudding shots on Joe, but Joe's superior skill wins the day.

Frazier wins by decision. He was too aggressive and tenacious, and his work-rate was that much better than Ray's. Joe's superior infighting skills also give him an insurmountable advantage.

But Mercer, just possibly, would make it exciting. At best, Ray might achieve as much as Bonavena did in the first Frazier bout, including - with a little luck - sending Frazier to the canvas. But even if this happened, Frazier would get up and win.

Other possible outcomes are something like the Bonavena rematch, meaning a more decisive points win for Joe (as compared to the first match). Another model here is the first Quarry fight, except that it goes the full route. In other words, the pair slug toe-to-toe without taking a backward step for the entire fight. Maybe one of Ray's eyes gets closed but he has no problems surviving until the final bell.

Smokin' Joe's margin over victory on the cards would be clear, and possibly wide.
