Steve Hamas

Post by pundit »

An American heavyweight contender in the early 1930s who went 2-2 with HOFer Tommy Loughran and 1-1 with HOFer Max Schmeling. He also beat contender Art Lasky by SD (who in his next fight lost an eliminator bout against Braddock for the shot at Max Baer). Ended his career in 1935 at age 27 after being knocked out in the retrun bout against Max Schmeling (his only KO loss).

Short but not unimpressive resumee. Does anyone know more about this fighter?

I believe so. He started his pro career relatively late.

Schmeling did not hold him in high regard.
He says in his book that he couldn't believe he lost to Hamas and was disgusted by his performance. It is probably the only fighter he doesn't speak well of in it.
