All British fights you want to see

Post by black panther »

I'm slowly losing more and more interest in boxing. Sure great all British fights have eluded us for years like when Takaloo, Steve Roberts, Ryan Rhodes et al but it felt like there were still some great all British clashes over the past few decades. Moore-Macklin, Gomez-Arthur, Magee-Hatton even fights like Vanzie vs Murray.

But now it just seems unless fighters are from the same promotional stable, they'll never meet unless its for a "world" title.

What are some all British clashes you'd like to see right now? For starters:

Yarde vs Buatsi
Benn vs Engine Essuman
Maxwell vs Ohara Davies

What's wrong with having a quality fight for the lovely Lonsdale?

Connor Benn Vs Michael McKinson.
Stuff the old faded Brook or Khan, we want to know who the best up and coming British welter is.
Benn has skipped over Britain, well he has skipped over the whole UK and Europe really.
McKinson for the British is a better fight than bloody Van Heerden isn't it?

It bewilders me why any British boxer wouldn’t want to fight for the British title and win it outright, such a beautiful belt.
I know boxers are in an hurry these days but if they have the talent take these fights early in Their careers

We still get good all British fights. Those 3 you specifically mentioned were excellent fights (particularly Moore/Macklin and Arthur/Gomez) but they happened across 4 years.

In the last year or so we’ve had some great all-British fights (Cheeseman/Metcalf, Cheeseman/Williamson jump out from memory as being particular highlights) but they’re spread all over multiple platforms. 20 years ago almost everything was on Sky so Sky could push more for certain fights. I’d argue we got a lot of rubbish then but the great fights stand out and there were more all-British fights as a British title fight, regardless of level, was considered good enough to headline a show.

One of the big issues for me in U.K. boxing is the lack of British title defences. I can’t remember a time when the British titles were fought for so infrequently as they are now. Joe Joyce is still champ. No need at all. He should have been to make a decision 12 months ago and we may have seen a well matched fight for the vacant belt.

I’d be happy to see any of the fights people have mentioned but my biggest wish is simply more fights for the Lonsdale belt.
