unusual punchees

Post by margaret thatcher »

ggg throws an overhand left hook type thingy that comes down on the opponent from an above angle

not a conventional punch that anyone else seems to throw, or at least one that hardly any others throw.

are there any other rare punches out there

I've always loved watching Joe Louis throwing his right hand. His method of delivery was idiosyncratic.

I thought you meant the one he KO’d Rubio with.

The punch Golovkin finally dropped Murata with was a right hook thrown from conventional stance, rare in itself

Floyd Patterson and his gazelle punch, also Mike Tyson threw a similar punch.
Dramatic by Patterson.
Devastating by Tyson.

I always found that KO brutal even more so because of Ingemars left leg twitching.

Naz threw a fair amount of unconventional punches in his considerable pomp.....looping around corners and up the middle.

Not that I got it from Golovkin but it’s my favourite punch personally. I throw it so my first two knuckles twist in sideways.m and a bit downward.

ive never even attempted that shot lol. although tbh, a punch thrown at that angle with the backhand is pretty common, so not sure why throwing it with the lead is so rare. there is definitely a use for it.........any way to mix up where a shot comes from/goes is useful, especially when trying to land on a shelled up opponent

Tommy Hearns would often throw a right hand similar to GGG , hooking it and coming down a bit. The right that knocked out Duran is prime example.

One of the best right hands I’ve ever seen that.

i notice that kovalev raerly threw any sort of conventional left hook, it was more like a left jab-hook hybrid, or perhaps could be called a power jab or straight left. he'd often throw a right hand first, then turn his body back into the left to get far more on it than your normal jab.

though he did also ko and break a guy's ribs with a lead jab, and also ko'd yarde with a jab

How Gennedy doesn’t break his hand is insane; he’s constantly punching the hardest part of the head.
His punches looked like they lacked a bit yesterday but they obvious don’t.
He’s as heavy handed as they come.
