Floyd Mayweather set for shock return to boxing in exhibition fight on Burj Al Arab Hotel helipad

Floyd Mayweather is reportedly set for a shock return to the ring in an eight-round exhibition fight against Don Moore next month, with the fight taking place on the helipad on top of the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.

The 45-year-old Mayweather's last fight was another exhibition eight-rounder against YouTuber Logan Paul last June. He 'officially' retired from boxing with an undefeated 50-0 record after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017.

After his bout with Paul, Mayweather voiced his respect for Paul but, at the time, appeared to rule out a return to the ring.

"I had fun. You've got to realise I'm not 21 anymore," he told Showtime Sport. "A great young fighter. Strong, tough. He's better than I thought he was.

"We don't know what the future holds, but I'll talk it over with my team, and see where we go from there.

"You've got to realise, I've been in this sport 25 years. I understand I'm not 21, I'm not 25, but I had fun tonight."

Mayweather's reported return is part of an exhibition being dubbed 'The Global Titan Fight Series', the undercard of which is said to feature former UFC champion in Anderson Silva, who will take on Bruno Machado, as well as a former world champion in two weight classes, Badou Jack.

Mayweather's opponent, the 42-year-old "Dangerous" Don Moore, is a former sparring partner who boxed professionally from 1999 to 2016, returning an 18-0-1 record - 12 of his wins coming via knockout.

To be fair, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be 45½ years of age by the time he enters the ring against his former sparring partner on the 14th May.

And almost seven years would have transpired since Money May competed in the final legitimate bout of his boxing career, which commenced more than 25½ years ago.

If Floyd and his buddy are receiving huge paydays (assuming Mayweather will pocket a tasty seven-digit sum), then why shouldn’t he continue competing in novelty circus events?

Money May’s current purses probably dwarf the vast majority of the paydays received by most world-rated fighters.

Personally-speaking, I’ve got no appetite whatsoever to see this farcical exhibition, but admittedly I might be tempted to watch the highlights on YouTube a day or so afterwards.

Anyway, good luck to Floyd and his buddy, Don Moore. I’m hoping they both manage to entertain, stay safe and enjoy their purses.

And in another history-making special feature of the event, all tickets for “The Global Titans Fight Series” will be sold as NFTs (platform to be announced). Those who secure an NFT ticket will be treated to unique and collectible features, including exclusive official fight videos, photography from the iconic event, a special 3D VIP ticket, plus lots more.

People all over the world can buy the PPV and watch us fight high above, almost in the sky.”

Gary Indiana’s “Dangerous” Don Moore hasn’t lost a fight since turning professional in 1999. A long-time sparring partner of Mayweather’s during his career, and formerly trained by his late Uncle, Roger Mayweather, Moore says he’s in a unique position to give the great Mayweather problems when the two meet in May.

“I am excited to participate in this event,” said Moore. “Because of how much of the same training I received from Roger Mayweather, I am gonna be able to give Floyd real problems. As a pro boxer in his second, more recent career, Silva (2-0, 1 KO) already holds victories over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and MMA legend Tito Ortiz.

“I can’t wait to do battle with my countryman in the sky!” said Silva. “This will be a great event for all the fighters and the fans and I look forward to putting on a great show for everyone. I am honored to share the card with Floyd Mayweather, a true boxing icon. Dubai is a beautiful place and I thank the organizers for asking me to be part of this epic event.”

Of Gambian-Swedish descent, Badou Jack is a fan and TV favorite and a former world champion in two weight classes (WBC Super Middleweight 2014 to 2017 and WBA Light Heavyweight 2017). Active in supporting his community, Jack is the Founder of the Badou Jack Foundation that was created with the purpose of giving underprivileged kids a fighting chance at a better future.

“I’m glad to be back in my second home of Dubai, to fight in front of all of my fans there once again and put on another great performance. Dubai is becoming the new fight capital of the world and events like this, featuring Floyd Mayweather, keep it spectacular. I always appreciate Floyd for his friendship and having my back.”

Having served as Floyd Mayweather’s International Touring Partner for years, Keane Anis, Founder of FrontRowTMT, and his FrontRowTMT Entertainment Team have more than 20 years of experience at organizing sporting events, concerts, beach parties and activations for celebrity tours, meet and greets and appearances. A well-regarded and reliable colleague to celebrities and promoters across the entertainment industry, Anis says FrontRowTMT is proud to present “The Global Titans Fight Series” with his promotional partners.

“This is one of the most unique events of my career,” said Anis. “I’m looking forward to working with my team, Floyd’s team and my partners at ROQU Media to present this historic event to fight fans around the world.”

Mayweather Sees No Issue With Further Exhibition Fights: I'm Milking The Game

"See, they're upset because I'm able to milk the game. I'm smart, I've kept all my faculties, made a lot of smart investments," Mayweather told Intu Boxing.

"People like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, the Waltons who people who Walmart and Walgreen... when they're getting money in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and even 90s, it's ok. A young kid like myself from the inner city, the ghetto... I worked my way up to the top. I was able to leave boxing on my own terms and keep all my faculties and keep all my money.

"They're upset that I'm able to go out there and continue to make 40 and 50 and 60 million outside the ring. You can't get mad, this old guy won it."

It’s hard to fault Mayweather’s thought process.

Nobility, respect and praise don’t pay the bills.

If everyone from this forum was offered several million dollars to engage in an exhibition, whereby they wouldn’t get physically hurt, then every single one of us would accept that offer.

No rich worshipping. But it sounds like you are jealous of a guy who figured out how to still make money long after his glory days.

Mayweather Denies That He Tried To Overshadow Gervonta Davis' Media Event

Five division world champion Floyd Mayweather denies that he intentionally tried to overshadow the media event that was being staged by one of his company fighters, Gervonta 'Tank' Davis.

Last Thursday, a press conference was staged in Brooklyn to announce Davis' Showtime pay-per-view clash with Rolando Romero.

A few hours later in Miami, Mayweather held a press conference to announce an upcoming exhibition fight with Don Moore, which is going to take place in Dubai next month.

Although Mayweather's company is promoting Davis - there is a lot of tension between them and Davis has openly expressed his desire to become a free agent. The two have had a very rocky business relationship in the last few years.

When news of Mayweather's presser began to circulate in the press, Davis took to social media to take a shot at the Hall of Famer in a since deleted tweet.

Mayweather explained that the event promoters were unable to push back his presser with Moore and were forced to stage it on that particular day.

"Anderson Silva had to fly out of Miami. So we couldn't do the press conference on any other day. They said, 'We'll pay you $1 million to do it.' I said, 'No problem.' I can feed my family with that," Mayweather told spam.com.

"I'm the same one that got on a podium not long ago and went to war for my fighter, I said, 'Why isn't Tank on the P4P list?' When my fighter didn't make weight, I went to war for my fighter. These are things we seem to forget."

It’s going to annoy a lot of people, but I have this awful feeling that this bout will attract sufficient PPV buys that it’ll encourage Floyd Mayweather Jr. to compete in another circus exhibition.

Despite its low price, it won’t do anywhere near the sort of numbers achieved by Ugas-Spence Jr., but it doesn’t need to in order to exceed the break even point.

Good luck to Money May for continuing to make a very decent living in his retirement though. Most retired boxers would do precisely the same thing Floyd is doing if they were wearing his shoes.

Press Release | Delfine Persoon vs. Elhem Mekhaled Added To Card

A women’s 10-round championship fight has been added to the inaugural edition of “The Global Titans Fight Series,” headlined by the ring return of Floyd “Money” Mayweather facing “Dangerous” Don Moore “in the skies of Dubai” on Saturday, May 14, as former unified champion Delfine Persoon of Belgium will take on France’s undefeated Elhem “The Diamond” Mekhaled for the vacant Female WBC silver super featherweight championship.

Persoon (46-3, 19 KOs) and Mekhaled (14-0, 2 KOs) will meet in one of the supporting bouts when Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) returns to face Moore (18-0-1, 12 KOs) in an eight-round, main-event exhibition matchup, outdoors on the helipad of Dubai's opulent Burj Al Arab Hotel.

Presented by FrontRow in association with Mayweather Promotions, the event will also feature combatants such as UFC legend Anderson Silva facing fellow Brazilian fighting star Bruno Machado in an exhibition bout, as well as a sanctioned bout between former two-division world champion Badou Jack (25-3-3, 15 KOs) and Hany “Egyptian Hurricane” Atiyo (16-4, 12 KOs) from Dubai via Egypt.

Perhaps best known for her two-fight series against top pound-for-pound fighter Katie Taylor, Persoon, of Roeselare, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, held the Women’s WBC Lightweight Championship for five years and made nine successful defenses before losing a controversial decision to Taylor for the undisputed lightweight championship at Madison Square Garden in 2019. The rematch with Taylor was held in 2020 and Persoon lost a close decision.

Persoon, who works as a railway policewoman in her homeland, started professional boxing in 2009 after competing in judo. Ranked among the best female fighters on the planet, Persoon also held the IBF female lightweight title in 2012.

“It’s great to be back in the ring and I’m very excited to compete on an undercard for Floyd Mayweather,” said Persoon. “My opponent has a good record and I respect her taking this challenge, but I’m going to show her I’m at a different level. Just like I did against Katie Taylor, I’m going to bring the action from start to finish and do everything I can to have my hand raised.”

The undefeated Mekhaled hails from Vaulx-en-Velin, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. In her five-year career, she has held the WBC interim female super-featherweight title, which she captured in March 2019 by defeating Spain’s Danila Ramos via 10-round unanimous decision, as well as the French and European Championships.

The fight against Persoon will be Mekhaled’s second outside her native France. The 31-year-old was last seen scoring a first-round knockout over Bosnia And Herzegovina’s Pasa Malagic to successfully defend her EBU (European) belt in September 2021.

“I’m on the path to a world title and this victory is going to catapult me toward my goal,” said Mekhaled. “It’s an honor to be fighting on a big card like this with Floyd Mayweather, and I’m planning to show everyone watching that I’m ready to become world champion.”

I don't fault Floyd for this. I blame the fans dumb enough to pay for it. Because if any of us were Floyd we would do the same thing. It will only stop when people refuse to watch

Who watches this garbage? Seriously who is so "jealous?" I always scratch my head when black celebrities with a chip on their shoulder say it. No one is jealous, no one cares outside of some Middle East oil Shiekh who has nothing else to spend money on.

I scratch my head thinking who buys these. Not even his biggest fans bought his fights. They were all cheap as hell, hence why he always tried to hijack Cinco de Mayo and Mexican boxing fans.

Floyd Mayweather-Don Moore Back In Play For May 21 In Dubai

Floyd Mayweather will proceed with his Dubai adventure.

Confusion as to when Mayweather’s previously postponed rematch with ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore will resurface appears to have been resolved, with the show back in play for this Saturday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The event takes place one week after the planned May 14 show was forced to shut down due to the sudden passing of UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died at the age of 73 last Friday.

Muslim tradition calls for a 40-day mourning period upon the loss of a member of the Islamic community, along with announced three-day work suspension in the UAE public and private sectors. That directly affected the May 14 card that was due to take place on a helipad atop the luxurious Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.

Mayweather revealed via Instagram plans for the event to take place this weekend, while conflicting reports suggested the show would be pushed back to October. Boxing Scene has confirmed that it will in fact move forward to take place this Saturday, along with at least two of the previously scheduled undercard bouts.

It remains unclear—as of Wednesday afternoon—whether it will still take place at Burj Al Arab, or at Coca-Cola Arena which was to have hosted a show topped by the now postponed lightweight fight between Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey.

UFC legend Anderson Silva will face Brazil’s Bruno Machado, a UAE Warriors mixed martial arts (MMA) lightweight champion in mixed martial arts, in an eight-round exhibition at a contracted weight of 194 pounds.

The most notable boxing match still in play for the undercard pits former long-reigning WBC lightweight champion Delfine Persoon (46-3, 19KOs) and unbeaten Elhem Mekhaled (15-0, 3KOs) in a scheduled ten-round junior lightweight bout. Their matchup was a late addition to the original May 14 date and was to have the vacant WBC silver 130-pound title at stake. It is unclear whether the belt is still on the line this weekend, though BS.com has confirmed that travel was secured for both boxers who were en route to Dubai as this goes to publish.

The status of the previously scheduled cruiserweight bout between former two-division titlist Badou Jack (25-3-3, 15KOs) and Dubai-based Haney ‘Egyptian Hurricane’ Atiyo (16-4, 12KOs) is not immediately known. Jack tweeted, ‘New date coming soon’ earlier Wednesday afternoon, though not confirming if it meant his returning to the show or awaiting a new assignment.

Even as a fake fight, the assignment is by far the most significant event in the boxing lifetime of Moore. The 45-year-old from Gary, Indiana amassed a record of 18-0-1 (12KOs) over the course of his 17-year pro career, taking place almost exclusively in his home state.

In his final pro fight, Moore scored a second-round knockout of Deshaun Williams who was 5-16-1 at the time of their September 2016 clash in Conyers, Georgia. The bout was in line with a career filled with sub .500 opponents though also the farthest he traveled from his home state as a pro. The journey to Dubai is an experience far beyond any other he’s enjoyed, coming against one of the best fighters in boxing history with whom Moore frequently sparred.

Mayweather (50-0, 27KOs) takes part in his third exhibition bout since retiring in 2017. The Hall of Fame former five-division champion was last seen going eight rounds with content creator and cruiserweight novice Logan Paul last June in Miami, headlining a Showtime Pay-Per-View event that reportedly generated 1,000,000 buys.

The action was the first in the ring for Mayweather since a first-round knockout of kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in their 2018 New Year’s Eve exhibition in Saitama, Japan.

Mayweather left the sport for good in 2017 following a tenth-round knockout of UFC superstar Conor McGregor who made his pro debut for the occasion. The bout ended a 23-month ring absence for Mayweather, who previously announced retirement after a September 2015 points win over Andre Berto at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. The win over Berto came four months after Mayweather soundly outpointed fellow boxing legend Manny Pacquaio (62-8-2, 39KOs) in May 2015, atop what remains the highest grossing event in boxing history.

Championship wins in five weight divisions along with his longtime status as the sport’s pound-for-pound were properly honored with three BWAA Fighter of the Year awards and the 2010s Fighter of the Decade. Mayweather was a slam-dunk, first-ballot selection for Hall of Fame enshrinement as part of the Class of 2021. He will be formally enshrined this June as part of a three-class induction ceremony, with the 2020 and 2021 induction ceremonies both canceled due to the pandemic.
