Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
Yeah, could have fought Ortiz, and I'd be interested enough to watch that.
But Spong?
Nope. Not worth my time.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
What is Ruiz up to?
He's still got gravitas due to the smoking of Joshua.
Even though he lost the rematch, he has a ready made excuse due to being shaped like a space hopper and weighing more than a Brachiosaurus, plus the fact that Joshua ran like Sir Mo Farah, but he's been treading water ever since.
I would love to see him fight the likes of Wilder or Ortiz, but he seems more interested in talking a good fight than fighting one these days.

Andy Ruiz Jr. had knee surgery last August that kept him out of the ring for longer than he wanted.Syntax Error wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 04:41 What is Ruiz up to?

He’s a wealthy man now, so perhaps his appetite for the sport isn’t what it once was.
Either way, he’s entitled to a ring rust clearing bout, so he gets a free pass from me for the Sprong fight.
But if he faces another substandard opponent after Sprong, then I’ll consider him done and irrelevant.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
This is acctually an interesting fight.
Andy Ruiz has for a long time focused on losing bodyfat as if he was some bodybuilder instead of a boxer.
The streetcred that Andy got from beating Joshua has diminished since that fight took place with Joshua being exposed by Usyk.
Now Andy is doing the promotional confusion act and recovering from knee surgery. I would not be all that surprised to see him lose this one.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
Ruiz could break his leg, his arm, and his jaw all in fight week and he would still win this. Its a missmatch.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
I guess Ruiz figured, like I predicted, that old man Ortiz was too tough a fight for him.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
Who's left for Ortiz for the summer? Hunter? Wallin? Helenius? Kabayel?
I'd like to see Chisora or Sanchez but it's most likely a journeyman.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
The YouTube channel “Real World Police” posted a new video showing Spong receiving a speeding ticket. He was respectful to the police the whole time.
Regarding the fight against Ruiz, I think Spong could win. I’ve seen him fight at boxing events I attended. He deserves this opportunity.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
ya, he signed to fight ortiz because he figured it was too tough a fight for him, that makes perfect sense
do we have another jojo diaz-haney, where the guy actually signed to fight is still ducking lol
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
The only thing this fight has in common with JoJo (who did drag his feet to sign), is that Ruiz will lose too. Ruiz apparently not too bright to sign for two fights?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 20:13ya, he signed to fight ortiz because he figured it was too tough a fight for him, that makes perfect sense

It seems fairly obvious you don’t bother reading any of the other posts in this thread?stevec@france wrote: ↑16 Apr 2022, 11:38 spong isnt even a credible sparring option for any top 20 HW

Ruiz Jr. is facing Luis Ortiz next, instead of Tyrone Sprong.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
I guess he didn't since Ruiz ditched Spong and agreed to fight Ortiz.
Spong was probably just being used as negotiating leverage anyways. Ruiz always wanted to fight Ortiz, who looked oh so faded against Martin.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
Sorry, but what you are saying makes no sense. Am I missing something? Don't you negotiate BEFORE you sign to fight someone. I'm glad the two are fighting, but this is a risky situation for Ruiz. Ortiz may be faded, but is a tricky southpaw with much more power and skill than an even more faded Arreola. Ruiz can win if he can make it to the late rounds and Ortiz gasses out.SenorPipino wrote: ↑16 Apr 2022, 17:03I guess he didn't since Ruiz ditched Spong and agreed to fight Ortiz.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
If you check Spong got stopped by punches in a MMA fight by 41 year old shopworn Russian, Sergei Kharitonov in late January. Spong is about done.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Tyrone Spong (July 16th)
Took him down and punched him, not quite the same as finishing him on his feet. Weirdly enough, Kharitonov also dropped Malik Scott twice recently under boxing rules and won the decision. I don't think Spong's loss to Kharitonov can be simplified to being stopped by punches by a shopworn 41 year old MMA guy.polecateddy wrote: ↑18 Apr 2022, 16:40 If you check Spong got stopped by punches in a MMA fight by 41 year old shopworn Russian, Sergei Kharitonov in late January.
