Fury/Whyte/Kinahan censored press conf

Post by MightyWarrior »

No thread on this ? Outrage by the real journalists who were banned from asking any awkward questions yesterday, just house trained lap dogs like @garethADaviesDT & hopeless YouTube groupie fan boys allowed powder puff questions ( what colour trunks have you decided on Tyson) Tris Dixon, Matt D and many others mightily pissed of about it on twitter.
A real embarrassment to the sport

Donald McRae & Sean Ingle, real journos, calling it out in the papers

Yeah. Not a particularly good look for them. I read an article on the BBC website about it - the article was just as much on the Kinahan lack of questioning as the fight itself.

I wonder if the added stress of it will be impacting Tyson at all.

I actually understand the boxing YouTube guys not asking about it. If you piss of Tyson, Frank, Bob and MTK then it would really limit your potential interviewees and access. I give Danny Flexen a lot of credit actually for jumping on a call with the Irish journalist who’s been pushing it.

Journalists have to walk a fine line, especially the ones who are purely boxing. They don't want to piss off the people who give them the access they enjoy.

Of those who were annoyed by this, they seem to be the outside of boxing sports journalists who are only interested in this as it's a top story! Probably haven't wrote a boxing article since Fury or AJ last fought...

Not saying that the boxing journalists were right to avoid, but does anyone really think that had one of them been brave enough to ask, that they would have got an answer?

It was a calculated method of doing a press conference, where they can control the press. If someone did brazenly ask a question re: DK they would have recieved a rehearsed answer about not talking about anything other than the fight. That journalist would likely never be welcome to media events again for Top Rank & FW shows.

I don’t think boxing people should have to field irrelevant questions from virtue signalling news journalists with the sole intention of showing boxing in a bad light. News journalists should be following the money trail, interviewing lawyers and accountants or probing into the drugs and murders side of things etc rather than setting about easy targets at press conferences

It’s up to the authorities to get their act together and put Kinahan in such a position that as a convicted criminal he is unable to be involved in representing boxers. Until then, if I were a boxer with a very short shelf life and his guidance was helping me to maximise my earnings, I’d leave the pious moralising to the hypocrite journos and focus on my craft.

Shouldn't so called boxing journalists be able to question their own sport's links to a man who is widely acknowledged to be a murdering drug-dealer?

Or what's the point of being a journalist? Gareth Asshole, Bunce and the other lapdogs have shown themselves to be a bunch of pussies who are just as big an embarassment to boxing as Kinahan and his cronies.

There really is no point being a boxing journalist in the UK. It has always been this way imo. Doesn't matter whether you question the BBBOC,promoters or the broadcaster. If you don't toe the party line then either ,creds get pulled, legal action could be threatened or access to boxers gets denied. Not only is it a thankless job,it invariably pays very little or nothing, and you may have to pay your own expenses as well. So why would you?

Just the other day Gareth Davies criticises fights happening in Saudi. Never seen him say anything about Dubai. And obviously now with boxing in the uk being linked across the board to this business.

I heard him on a podcast totally denouncing the prospect of Saudi hosting Usyk v AJ. Trotted out all the usual objections and then says that of course he would go there to cover it.

So hang on Gareth, you happily sit here on the sidelines pontificating and sniping at promoters and fighters who will fight there to earn themselves a crust but you’re not prepared to have the courage of your convictions and tell your employers that your objections to the Saudi regime prevent you from attending a fight there. Fcuking hypocrite.

What purpose would it serve for boxing journalists to question promoters, trainers and fighters about mere allegations ? What useful answers could they offer ? Give me a sample question that you’d like to have seen asked to Tyson

All such a line of questioning would achieve would be to give free publicity to the ban boxing do gooders.

Banning journalists from even asking the question, with a mute button, after a year of pro Kinahan views about how fab he is, is a terrible look.

Mere allegations..

What planet are you living on? The fella has a decades long history of violence and murder connected to his family. He may not have pulled any triggers himself but the dozens of dead Hutch family members (and god knows how many others) didn't end up in a box without him knowing a thing or 2 about it.

He's had at least 2 attempts to shoot him, one of which had Jamie Moore take a bullet. What was that just bad luck?

The US government banned him from entering the States because he's on their list of most wanted narco terrorists. Is that more bad luck?

It's a joke people are actually seriously trying to say all this stuff is merely allegations when the history of the Kinahan family is steeped in criminality for most of the last 20 years. I suppose all these Irish media, authorities and the world's police forces are just making it up as well?

I'm actually staggered anybody even tries to deny who he is.
