Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford - Anytime anyplace anywhere

Post by DrDuke »

Image

Errol Spence Jr, 28-0-0(22 KOs), World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation Welterweight Champion

against

Terence Crawford, 38-0-0 (29 KOs), World Boxing Organisation Welterweight Champion.

No reasonable mandatories left, no strict contractual obligations remained, it's the best time for the Undisputed Welterweight Championship of the World right now!

Let's sign petition to make this goddamn bout or capture these two mofos and make them fight each other by force, it's fornicating time!

This is a bona fide superfight.

It's probably hyperbole to say it's the biggest fight at 147 since Leonard V Hearns, but I am struggling to think of any bigger.

I am 52/48 in favour of Crawford, but in reality, I am still clinging to the fence.

Both at their very prime, undisputed title on the line. This is biggest boxing fight outside of heavyweight and not including Canelo. Plus i think it is instant ticket to greatness for winner. It will be stupid not to make this fight.

Wondering if these two are on radar of casual sports fans

As a lithuanian, I would love if Stanionis would fight for another world title, vs Crawford or Spence, but if Spence and Crawford meet on their own, it would be one of the best fight of the year, easily.

Question off-topic: how often box.rec ratings are updated? instantly?

Man, it's so hard to pick between these 2. IMO they both have weaknesses the other can exploit. I kinda like Crawfords skills a little better, but that constant pressure and body work from Spence is just nasty. And the fact Spence can do that for 12 rounds, I don't care how skilled Crawford is, that's hard for anyone to handle.

They both have the ability to stop the other and are both good finishers. They're both mean as hell and got that killer instinct. There's a part of me that feels Crawford plays the counter game and eventually catches Spence, then on the other side I feel like Spence could just be too active and bank round after round and eventually break Crawford down before Crawford even gets in a rhythm.

Then there's that chance it's just a dog fight from the get go. I mean no matter what angle I try look at it I see this fight as damn near 50/50. I like Spence a little better, I find Bud to be a bit corny so I'll be low key rooting for Spence if the fight happens lol.

Both are models for textbooks of boxing. Fast, smart, polished, diverse, carrying firepower. However, Crawford is more special because of his slickness. I see it as a competetive matchup, where the more elusive Crawford should eventually prevail.

I think, the fight will start extremely close and gradually Crawford will break Spence down. Spence is proven to deal with adversity, so he won't give it away easily, he'll try until the end, thus eventually he'll be stopped.

That's how I see it, if it happens next. How realistic is it to expect this bout soon? It's hard to know for sure, since the politics of boxing can bring any kinds of sh!t.

Well said, and I agree. I think it will come down to your comment about catching Spence. If not, Spence wins by being the busier guy. Personally, I give Spence the edge on this one.

It would be awesome to pit him vs Boots Ennis on the Crawford vs Spence undercard.

Has to happen, it could save the sport!
A lot of the hardcore fans might call it the final straw if this one doesn't get made due to the BS politics.

It ain't gonna save sh*t. Ain't even gonna sell all that many PPV's. I'd honestly be surprised if it sold more than 1 Million. Hardcore fans will be upset if it doesn't happen yes, but generally speaking Hardcore fans are the only ones that really care about either one of these guys.

WW super fights like this never bring in the casuals, with the exception of some Pacman fights and Mayweather vs DLH. The only division that consistently brings in the casuals is HW.

It would've sold twice as much probably if Spence had been the one to beat Pac, but he isn't, so it won't.

The HW division has always been the main attraction to casuals until the 2000s, where the Klitschko era has begun and no real counter-action has appeared. Ironically, Mayweather, who became the major money generator and attractor of casuals in the late 2000s and early 2010s, wasn't too spectacular to watch either, but he was a big mouth in contrast to Klitschkos. Neither Spence, nor Crawford is a good orator.

I mean it ain't gonna save the sport entirely by itself, granted! But the sport relies heavily on the hardcore who it can treat like shit and know they'll still come along for any of the shit they decide to put together. This is probably the most wanted fight for the hardcore and it has been for a few years now!

I get a sense that even the most ardent of fans are becoming more and more disillusioned with the state of affairs. There's been loads of big fights that never happened over the years, and that along with the myriad of other issues within the sport are combining to make it hard for the real fans to tolerate for much longer!

If Spence-Crawford isn't made, I really can see it being a last straw for a lot of fans.

Mayweather Pacquiao

Even though the fights weren't as exciting, those were huge fights since Leonard Hearns. But I do think Crawford Spence is likely to be as exciting of Leonard Hearns.

ya i think it would be a good fight, spence is an unrelenting fighter and crawford unlike a lot of p4p elite skillful boxers has tons of spite and mean streak, he would fire hard back

I would have said this was a close fight before the fairly soft hitting Ugas put Spence in la-la land, Crawford would have knocked him out clean.
And that's how I see the fight. Crawford by KO.
And it won't save boxing. Boxing is dying through poor referees and judges, confusing belts and rankings, and fighters not fighting the best.

He slightly buzzed him first, but he shot that actualy hurt spence was when spence thought the fight had been stopped and was looking at his mouthgaurd.... I didnt understand what happened first time round, looked like spence was KOd standing and then ugas got him.. But watching again, ref like 3/4 jumps in, everything pauses, spence looks at mouthpeace, and ugas rightfuly gets him. rookie move, but dosnt mean he is chinny. in that context spence took it well. 147 Mayweather couldent punch, but look what he did to the guy that headbutted him and thought it was sorry time..

Yes I get that, watched it a few times too, but I am referring to the punch that knocked the mouth guard out and buckled Spence.
There were a few other times in the fight Spence was buzzed. My point is that those times - if it was Crawford - Spence would have been in a world of trouble, if not out for the count.
So Crawford KO is how I see it.

Remember this was Spence's 2nd fight in 2 years. When you get to this level, you will get hit, buzzed, etc. It happened to Crawford vs Gamboa, and even one or two other times. Ugas is at least as big of a puncher as Crawford. What I'm saying is don't bet the farm based on Spenc's chin. It's been solid so far, against tougher competition than Crawford has seen.

craw is defo a bigger puncher than ugas, ugas has only 12 stoppages in 32 fights and hasnt even scored a knockdown in about 4 years. crawford has 29 stoppages in 38 fights (over double the ko rate of ugas) and stopped/dropped everyone he's faced over the last 6 years.

common opponents porter and dulorme - ugas couldnt stop either, craw stopped both

ugas is lacking power if anything for a top level fighter, craw isnt

The best part is that I think that this will end up being both Spence & Bud’s last fight at 147 before moving up. Which means that we are bound to get at least 1 more or 2 more fights together at 154 & 160 before they hang up the gloves and get inducted into HOF.

Greatest fight matchup since Hagler/Leonard.
