Eddie Hearn reveals Canelo Alvarez incentive for Joshua Buatsi and Craig Richards

The light-heavyweight rivals clash on May 21st.

Eddie Hearn has explained that the winner of May’s all-London clash between Joshua Buatsi and Craig Richards could be in position to face Canelo Alvarez.

The light heavyweight pair clash on May 21st, exclusively live on DAZN, and they came face to face yesterday for the first time to officially announce their fight.

With both fighters climbing the rankings at 175lbs, a showdown with Canelo will be in the victor’s sights if the Mexican chooses decides to fight at that weight class beyond his imminent showdown with Dmitry Bivol.

Canelo is expected to face Gennadiy Golovkin at 168lbs in September, but a move up could be next depending on the result.

“I want to get in a position where I have the opportunity for my guys to face Canelo Alvarez,” said Hearn when speaking to IFLTV.

“He wants to fight in London in December. We could have options for him in December. It’s important that we can give our guys the opportunity and that’s a very big carrot that’s being dangled in this fight.”

And John Ryder? How on earth will they generate Canelo money at The O2?

No way Canelo is fighting Buatsi or Richards in London.

TBH, if he was gonna fight ANYONE in UK, it would have been the more known guys: Khan, Smith, BJS..

I think Canelo sells out in the UK regardless, because UK fans love boxing and to see a P4P boxer in the ring in the flesh is a big thing.

But only The O2 will be ok for it on December. Do they even allow fights to start at 4.00am? Its just utter sh!t.

Why 4am?

You think they'll cater it for the US fans?

It doesn't have to be @ 4am.

A Canelo fight against a reasonable challenger with home advantage makes a great matinee for the American timezone.

Will DAZN still be a thing by the end of the year in this country ? Can see a lot of belt tightening in the next 6 months with the cost of living rocketing and will things like Netflix, DAZN, etc be the first to go ?

You could be right.
I quit DAZN because of the lack of quality and frequency - we don't get all the shows the Northern Hemisphere subscribers get either.
But have DAZN done any customer surveys for you guys?
I didn't get an exit survey or even a question on why I was quitting the service. I would juggle some things around in my life to be able to afford it- if it was worth it - and I feel it isn't.
I'm not going to pay a subscription and then pay a PPV on top for the good fights, and I am not going to pay a subscription to watch a card full of 90% pick a winner before the opening bell fights. And I want access to All DAZN fights worldwide.
Pretty simple. Fix that and I'll resubscribe, and juggle other things in my life to be able to afford it.

Future of DAZN very unclear. Suggested that Blavatniks injection of cash was due to concerns over sanctions….

Not me, I think Buatsi will have too much for the Spider although he definitely did well against Bivol.

Yeah - Spider did well against Bivol but I thought that just as much due to Bivol not getting out of first gear coupled with Richards performing slightly better than expected.

Richards will provide an awkward test but I'm not sure anyones questioning Buatsi's ability to deal with a rangy long armed guy who will probably spoil a fair bit. It's the big punchers who can regularly get inside on him. He passed a big test in Bolotniks in my opinion, we saw last night Bolotniks get straight back on the winning trail. Yarde and Lyndon Arthur will be making sure they have Bolotnik's number on block.

The Russian he was set to fight was the one that truly would have been the one before a World title shot. This one against Richards, not so much but it will probably count as an eliminator.

Press Release | Chantelle Cameron vs. Victoria Bustos on Buatsi-Richards Card

Chantelle Cameron will defend her WBC, IBF super lightweight titles against two-weight world champion Victoria Noelia Bustos at The O2 Arena in London on May 21.

The fight will take place on the undercard of the light-heavyweight clash between Joshua Buatsi and Craig Richards, which will be broadcast live on DAZN.

Cameron (15-0, 8 KOs) makes her return after defeating Mary McGee last October, where she added the IBF and Ring Magazine titles to her WBC crown. She had been expected to have a unification battle with Kali Reis next, but will now face Bustos instead.

Bustos (23-6) is a two-weight world champion, having previously held world titles at both lightweight and super lightweight, and Cameron is thrilled to finally be back in action.

Cameron said: “I’m delighted to finally have a date again where I can defend my world titles. It’s been frustrating over the last few months waiting to find out if it would be the undisputed match-up with Kali Reis, but I desperately needed a fight so I’m so excited to face Victoria Bustos.

“October was my last outing so this has been a long time coming. Bustos is a tough opponent and a former world champion, so I’m glad that it is a serious test. She’s only ever lost to world class opposition and has never been stopped before, so I’ll be looking to make a statement on May 21st.

“I’ve been hard at work in Manchester with my coach Jamie Moore over the past couple of weeks and I’m feeling great, so I can’t wait to get back in the ring next month and show everybody once again that I’m the best 140lb fighter in the world.”

It’s missing a solid co-main. They’ll probably put Cameron as co-main given it’s a world title fight but having potentially 20 rounds of womens boxing is too much I think for a main card.

I’m not bothered by Scotney. Babic is usually in good fights but I’ve never heard of his opponent so can’t comment. I quite like the Davies Jr fight.

Cheavon Clarke looked great on his debut so will be interested to see him again and Defrietas is one of my favourite prospects too.

Frustratingly my friend has his company’s box for this. He told me a few weeks back so I checked with my wife to confirm we didn’t have anything on and she said ‘It’s my friend’s wedding and we’re there all day’. Someone I’ve only ever met twice. So I’ll miss this and the Andrade/Parker show. Gutted.
