Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte | BT PPV - 23 April 2022
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte | BT PPV - 23 April 2022
Real impressed with Fury's display. Might be a tad controvesial but that for me was far and away his most complete victory mainly because I think that was his most convincing win against someone who could actually box/fight a bit.
The Klitchscko fight was very very close no I will never be convinced that it was a genuine game plan to fight in Germany against a long reigning champion and try and "fiddle" his way to the title by not throwing any freaking punches himself. Whilst for me the fight was too close to call I was fully expecting Klitchscko to be awarded the win.
Wilder - yes all three fights might have been more clear cut than this one but Wilder can't box.
This was pretty much a dominant true master class against a genuine world class boxer and was always in control. Wilder might KO Whyte but I'd be pretty confident that Wilder would be down on points before it happened. Fury just out thought him and dominated him pretty much all the way.
However, there is one heavyweight who has done something similar against another world class boxer not so long ago - they need to fight.
Joshua might in the rematch throw a punch that KO's Usyk, but Usyk is the only fighter I can see that COULD (and it is a could) give Fury problems. I'm not fussed on seeing Joshua vs Fury for all the belts - can't see how Joshua beats him - to slow, to bad stamina, to predicable.

Strange that the fight highlights still aren't on the BT youtube. Makes me think they are still hoping for ppv buys.

Pretty sure the PPV’s they wait a little longer than the next day. With normal BT shows, yeh, they are usually available the next day or so.
Repeats still play throughout Sunday don’t they?

Whyte saying he wasn’t out classed
“Yeah you know I think there was a lot [going on] in the fight,” Whyte told BBC 5 Live Boxing. “It was a close fight, obviously. I was just getting started to come in more and more, obviously, to press him, obviously, work the body and start moving forward, but, you know.
“My coaches gave me great advice…I was countering, I was trying to attack. I went left and right and thought maybe I can slip [the punch] and come back with a shot. But one slip and I got caught with a shot.”
“You got to make a decision at a high level in there, man,” Whyte said. “Quick decision. It is what it is. I didn’t feel like I was outclassed in there. He was just at another level – he’s one of the greatest fighters of all time.”

Nope. Will take a few days at least before the rumours start. Frank did an IFL interview yesterday which made me think it hadn’t gone as well hoped. He said they hadn’t got the numbers through yet but he was content and they were ‘on track to be the right side of it’.
They would have early solid estimates of how successful the PPV was even with it being available through Sky as well as BT so I’d have thought if it had done great and well over 1m buys like he was expecting then he would have been more buoyant about it’s performance.

I guarantee Eddie will say it performed worse than expected.
I thought Frank seemed quite happy.

Yeah - I’m sure Eddie will but they were expecting c.1.5m. Just like post Khan/Brook which whilst it did c.500k buys I’m sure given the build up they were probably hoping and expecting for more.mickey1975 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 04:38 I guarantee Eddie will say it performed worse than expected.

I thought it was a fairly measured interview from Frank. Least angry I’ve seen him in weeks but I didn’t think the vagueness and lack of excitement around the PPV question was a good sign.
As I’ve said before I think PPV boxing will be really tough for the next couple of years. People have far less disposable income and streaming is relatively easy. Will also make DAZN’s UK’s losses even bigger as people are reducing easily cancellable streaming services.

Yeah. Adam Smith didn’t confirm a number but said it was around the 500k which a few other people had said too.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 05:36Khan-Brook did around 500k?maverick23 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 04:49Yeah - I’m sure Eddie will but they were expecting c.1.5m. I guess most people in Thai day and age had the dodgy sticks etc. why pay PPV, like you say, people just don’t have the disposable income.
I’m work in finance and I complete a lot of financial statements for customers and a lot of them have been cutting down.
They’re paying their fixed bills, the essential ones, but cutting back on a lot of the WANTS.
Going out; eating out, socialising, clothing/footwear etc.
People need to start being realistic.

500k buys is still a good figure really. It was just given the build up and the amount of promotion it had I think most people would have expected more. That’s why I thought Frank was being a bit deluded talking about 1.5m buys.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 05:42Shocking.maverick23 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 05:38Yeah. I hope they did recoup all of their $41m. Not because of Frank but I think Tyson deserves every penny of his purse bid share.

Also an attendance of 94,000 makes a big difference

Yes - certainly helps.
It made me laugh though when Carl Froch was interviewed after the fight and he was asked what he thought of them doing 94,000. He said ‘I’m not sure on the 94,000….I saw a few empty seats.’
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte | BT PPV - 23 April 2022
By my calculations they sold around 75 seats less than for Froch v Grovesmaverick23 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 06:30Yes - certainly helps.
