Imo it would be an historical fight between two top 10 legit HWs of all times! :box: :TU:

I heard that Fury may want to retire but who knows, he said that before too.

I Agree. Fury Really Should have at least one more bout. Versus the winner of that upcoming bout.(Usyk-A.J)
Ideally, if he fought both of them guys, around 4-6 months apart, that would Truly Cement Fury's Legacy, imo.
Even though I see Usyk likely winning again, by a decision over A.J, Fury vs A.J would still be a Captivating battle/showdown, imo.

It's something every real boxing fan wants. Hopefully Fury will agree to it.

It's of historic importance, it would make a lot of money, and obviously it's much better than Fury in some stupid MMA exhibition fight.

Yeah, Fury vs Usyk is a great matchup (Joshua will lose again, of course). They are the two sublime grandmasters of boxing. How can it not happen?

If AJ beats Usyk we can expect Fury next.

I can feel the £200 million+ contracts already being drawn up.

Just the purse split and the small matter of securing the necessary win still needed.

Business wise and style wise Fury is the winner and of course he would probably fight AJ on Wembley or O2 Arena.

If Usyk whoops AJ again I think Fury would probably go on the exhibition route.

Usyk is too damn skilled, multidimensional fighter, smart, fast , he has a very good footwork and he is very strong minded.

Exactly. Fury already made a roids accusation about Usyk, but he is the roids boy. He won't fight Usyk, but would fight AJ.

Why is Fury still rated by BoxRec? He announced his retirement. I know in the past if a boxer said he is retired that he would no longer be rated.

Regardless of whether Fury is permanently retired or not, he said it repeatedly that he was retiring.

1- Until he's actually done the official paperwork vacating both the WBC and RING belts, he's still the champion of the world.

2- Even if he does retire, one can make an argument that he is still the lineal heavyweight champion of the world because he never lost it.

3- Until his license to box expires, he is still considered a professional fighter.

Point (s) one and two are especially interesting because if anyone remembers he was not stripped of the RING belt for a very long time after beating Klitschko. In a bizarre move they stripped him of that belt shortly before his first comeback fight. So we might see history repeat itself where he will still be listed as RING champion until the time limit runs out, unless he does the official paperwork vacating that belt.

the ring belt is given out by a magazine, one magazine among many that do their own ratings. i dont think he needs to do any paper work for that type of thing !

if someone stays lineal when they are retired, i dont know how he ever couldve become lineal champ, since there were already lineal champs to retire before him. the first one to do it would still be da king by that method, the only lineal champ ever at hw, unless we also claim there are multiple lineal champs at a time in the same division

lineal fury :yay: :yay:

The lineal champion thing is a real part of boxing history. Oddly enough it seems only the heavyweight division has ever really made use of it. For example Jack Johnson was not considered the true champion until he faced lineal champion Jim Jeffries. Ezzard Charles was not considered the true champion until he faced lineal champion Joe Louis. Mike Tyson was not considered the true champion until he faced lineal Michael Spinks.

Now if we are to be absolutely technical, the last lineal champion was Gene Tunney. But since he never unretired, a new lineage had to be created. And that lineage went all the way to Lennox Lewis. But since he has never unretired, a new lineage had to be created. I can't see him unretiring at nearly 60 years old--- so the fact of the matter is the only lineal champion there is happens to be Tyson Fury.

if fury is the lineal champ then obviously we can't also have it that he'd remain lineal champ even when retired. otherwise the first fighter to retire as lineal champ would still be the champ

cant have it both wayss

I would say as long as he had the appearance of looking capable of unretiring and giving everybody a run for their money, he can hold on to lineal champion status. That is generally the mindset behind the whole lineal champion status once somebody retires as champion.

i'd say once he's retired he's no longer 'lineal' champ, simple. otherwise he could keep talking for years and years about coming back

if he unretires, he has to win it back

I'm going strictly by the way history has always been in this sport when it comes to the lineal championship. People can claim to be the real champion all they want to but if somebody retired as champion came back they have every right to claim being the lineal champion setting up a genuine undisputed title fight.

I would not be surprised if Fury did retire and that the WBC listed him as "champion emeritus," which is what they did when Vitali Klitschko retired and then unretired 4 years later and got an automatic title shot at Sam Peter.

he's champ of nothing if he's retired and not an active fighter, just as lennox lewis isnt champ now. champs dont make title reigns from their sofa.

if he officially retires now, the aj-usyk 2 winner will be lineal champ

instead of retiring, which his fans always seem oddly giddy about, he should fight the aj-usyk 2 winner later this year for all the marbles. huge fight , huge achievement. beat them, then retire, and all the titles will be up for grabs again.

I hate "retirements" that you cant trust ...

Guess Will find out a bit of intent when Eddie asks the ring to put the title on the line for Usyk vs AJ... (I assume he will).

Anothr hint will be weather he stays in WBCs clean boxing random testing pool.

Tyson Fury signed a six-fight co-promotional deal with Top Rank during February 2019.

I’m assuming it expires after the Francis Ngannou exhibition, since that will be the sixth event that Top Rank has been involved in with Fury.

Tyson Fury might be using the “retirement” angle as a negotiating tactic to orchestrate a contract renewal.

Of course, there’s a possibility that Fury may decide to retire, depending on the outcome of the Joshua-Usyk rematch.

Fury’s purse to face the Ukrainian dead-cert first-ballot Hall-of-Famer would be significantly less than what he’d receive for fighting Anthony Joshua.

And to be honest, if we review the heavyweight landscape, all the other fighters not-named Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua, don’t bring very much to the table (in terms of legacy or payday).

Therefore, I reckon that Tyson Fury will definitely resume his boxing career if Anthony Joshua defies my personal expectations to avenge his loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

But if the Ukrainian beats AJ for a second time, then Fury will probably retire.

Just like he did the first time. Cus technically he was retired or at least missing for 3 years. Even Ring had to strip him eventually.

Fury pulled out of a rematch twice against Wladimir Klitschko. Fury now retires, but says this "might be the final curtain" for him. Does this mean that he "might" come back? Is that dependent on if Joshua defeats Usyk? I think so.

Tyson Fury couldn’t have fought between June 2016 and January 2018, even if he wanted to, because his boxing license had been revoked by the BBBofC.

UKAD and the BBBofC kept postponing the hearings, with one of the postponements quashing hopes of a July 2017 return to the ring for Fury (appearing on the undercard of an event headlined by Billy Joe Saunders).

The main reason for the delays in the hearing, was because UKAD knew they’d cocked up and were fearful of being made insolvent or requiring a government bailout if Tyson Fury was found innocent.

The handling of that situation by UKAD and the BBBofC was disgraceful, because the adverse sample was taken during February 2015, but the hearing to address the doping charge didn’t happen until December 2017.

I don't know why people are so adamant that Fury would not face Usyk. The man is even smaller than Whyte, and dare I say a tad bit smaller than Cunningham.

Yeah, I already know size means nothing --- unless the guy with size is a damn good tactician/stylist with damn good conditioning and leaves it all in the ring.

All of those things are what Fury has. It may be a boring fight because I can see the Ukrainian mostly running around rather than mixing it up, but why people think Fury would avoid a man whose only claim that heavyweight is beating Anthony Joshua who already was damaged goods.

Yeah Joshua would be more money, because for some reason people still want this all British showdown even though it's nowhere near as big as it would have been had they both remained undefeated--- but I'm not so sure Usyk really would be that big of a threat.

If he moves in Fury can either smother and maul him to death, or catch him with upper cuts. Fury is a bit of an anomaly because when he seems to be in reach he really isn't, and when he seems to be out of reach he can still hit you. Plus the fact that one can make a strong argument that Fury moves just like a cruiserweight despite his 6'9" 260+ frame.

Anyways... Paris Fury basically said that Tyson gets bored easily and may very well change his mind on retirement. That the only fight that Tyson is really interested in is an undisputed title clash, so the retirement talks have to be taken with a grain of salt.

That being said I see Fury doing the Ngannou fight, plus a few appearances at WWE, waiting for the results of Joshua-Usyk 2. He can certainly bide his time, unless the WBC wants to kick up a fuss and say Fury must defend against Wilder again--- which would be one of the biggest boneheaded mistakes that could ever be made but boxing is a sport that has often disappointed me with stupid decisions made by the powers that be in the business.
