Fury isn't close to the GOAT talks unless he beats Usyk and AJ. Maybe add the next top guy to come through after that should it be Joyce, Hrgovic, Yoka, Anderson or whoever else.

I'd also add that it's partly not Fury's fault. If he beats the rest of the division then it's not his fault that the division isn't up to the standard of previous generations. If he doesn't get around to it then it is his fault for failing a drugs test, pissing about with rematches and choosing to face a lot of warm ups and no names rather than the top guys when he had the chance.
It's not uncommon to look back with rose tinted glasses at past eras. As good and exciting as Mike Tyson was who did he ever beat that was great? Lennox was one of the best HWs around and he was knocked out twice and had some close calls to.

Mike Tyson cleaned out the division and racked up 10 defences in 3 years, doing so in terrifying fashion. He splattered greats like Spinks and Holmes and romped over big, talented dangerous guys like Tucker. Bar Tubbs his opponents were in shape; bar Holmes they were in their 20s.

Mike was a once in a lifetime talent. And this is coming from someone who likes Tyson Fury and dislikes Mike Tyson.

At their best, I think it's Whyte > Chisora > Wallin. But in terms of their performances against Fury, the reverse! But Whyte's so little ahead of Chisora they could easily switch on any given night.

Wallin fought in his best shape, unlike Whyte and Chisora I. Chisora II was much better, but also against the best Fury.

But Cunningham and Pajkic both knocked Fury down and gave him a better fight. Cunningham was a world champ at cruser too. Kevin Johnson became a journeyman after Fury but at the time I thought he gave Vitali a good challenge. Pajkic was undefeated but didn't box on after the Fury loss so he's a bit of an unknown.
kev johnson gave an awful challenge, he literally landed 5 power punches all fight!

The other side to that is that Tyson totally cleaned out a very weak division, his best wins were against a light heavy, Spinks, and a past it Holmes.
Holmes on the other hand beat Norton, Weaver, Shavers, Leon Spinks, Berbick, Smith and Witherspoon.

I would say Whyte is number #1 actually. I rate him above Wilder and I aint convinced he got the decision against Wlad (who is number 1 officially) - yes the Wlad fight was close, to close.

If Whyte is the #1, Fury is leagues above the best guy he has ever fought.

Spinks was the lineal heavyweight champion and beat bonafide heavies Holmes and Cooney. So he was more than 'just' one of the greatest light heavies of all-time.

I get that fans can put whatever spin they like on fighters' records, but if someone veers too far from what I wrote about Mike Tyson they either have an agenda or are misinformed. In short, if you're not impressed by what Mike did but you are in awe of what Fury's done, something's up.

fury was lucky that daniel parrot got to belshaw first, took the fight out of him. a prime undefeated belshaw wouldve been too much i think

also, the 90 second prime cornish wouldve give fury fits. pretty obvious why fury's team swerved him

He was well on the slide even by the time he fought Tyson, let alone a 47-year-old Tarver. They were both past it but even a 47-year-old Tarver knew a lot more than Whyte, Whyte is not a good boxer at all. He is a good fighter and a hard man but doesn't have a boxing brain. hence why he looked clueless on Saturday.

Hes leagues above the best guy hes decisively beaten yes. How many rounds did he lose vs Wilder in 3 fights? How many rounds has he lost in his career?

He dominated Chisora, Whyte and Wilder. Yes hes leagues above them. He didnt dominate vs Wlad. Yes he struggled against McDermott but he was very green then.

There is only one more fighter who has dominated in world class left. Need to see Usyk next. If Joshua gets lucky then Fury can retire

if joshua legit beats usyk he'll still be a huge fight for fury: undisputed title fight vs world #2, who is also a unified + olympic champ + biggest domestic rival. who also ko'd fury's last opponent (as did aj victim povetkin)

people talk like fury's beat a whole dozen murderer's row of greats and that this type of fight is way below him

No doubt it's Whyte. He has beaten Chisoro 2x .. and Wallin has done nothing except lose against Fury.

It's how you win - not how you lose

Wallin can prove his credibility more in the future, but now it's Whyte.

I could see that too.
But-
Cunningham did give Fury fits in their fight. Whyte never looked to trouble him, neither did Klitchko for that matter.

So if we are talking about the GOAT how does that list line up against Ali or Lennox?

Ali- Liston x2, Foreman, Frazier, before we get to the likes of Norton, Spinks, Foster, Patterson, Lyle and Quarry. Was Bugner better than Whyte?

Lennox- Holyfield, Tyson, McCall, Klit, Rahman, Briggs, Morrison, Tua, Ruddock, Golota- and the last 5 were completely dominant performances against guys in the same league as Whyte.

Outside of Wilder and Klit, has Fury really beaten fellas better than Bruno, Botha, Mercer, Tucker and Akinwande?

no such thing as greatest of all time , you can only be the greatest of your era and even that is debateable
