Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Dimitry Bivol | DAZN PPV - May 7, 2022
Personally-speaking, I feel that Canelo’s main objective is to unify the 175lbs division.
He’s probably already a decent size at that weight and doesn't need rehydration clauses or catchweights, because those contractual stipulations would adversely affect him too.
And unless the PBC and Showtime can supply a spectacular $120m+ two-fight deal during 2023 (to defend his super-middleweight titles against contenders like Benavidez and Charlo), then September’s bout against GGG will almost certainly be the Mexican’s final soiree at 168lbs.
Canelo’s one-off cruiserweight bout towards the end of 2022 against Ilunga Makabu, will provide the Mexican with an ideal opportunity to grow into the weight and become a fully-fledged “big” 175lb-er.
And I feel that Canelo would probably bully and outbox a 38 year old inactive one-dimensional iteration of Artur Beterbiev during 2023.
Canelo will be 33 years of age next year and the sands of time for his career are running out.
Therefore, I reckon Canelo might be ready to consider retirement by 2024, because there’ll be no more mountains left for him to climb (assuming he doesn’t lose in the meantime).
Canelo has already been competing in the paid ranks for 17½ years and the Bivol contest will be his 61st outing.
So there’s already a hell of a lot of miles on Canelo’s proverbial clock.

Canelo is aiming for ATG legacy, period.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑07 Apr 2022, 08:00 Canelo Turned Down Catchweight and Rehydration Options for Bivol Says Hearn
“You know that Canelo could have had a catchweight for this fight, real easy, real easy,” Hearn said on The DAZN Boxing Show. “Dmitry Bivol is not a massive 175. He would have accepted anything from 171 and up.
“We’ve had these conversations with Eddy Reynoso and Canelo. Canelo Alvarez and those guys, Eddy [said], ‘No catchweight. If this is going to be for the 175-pound title that’s the way it’s going to be.’”
“And rehydration clause, right, doesn’t exist,” Hearn continued. “They could have put a rehydration clause in this contract so easily and they said, ‘No rehydration clause. Why?’ And I’m like, ‘You’re coming up a division. You’re not at heavyweight. This guy could come in the ring at 185 pounds’ – No. Because he doesn’t feel that’s what greats do.”
“Honestly, I know I’m a massive Canelo fan, but you gotta respect [him],” Alvarez said. “He has the ability within these negotiations to turn the screws on anyone he wants. It’s the same with the Billy Joe Saunders situation with the ring. Remember? The ring size. No problem. No Problem.
"So he’s giving up advantages that he could have because he feels it would diminish the achievement and the accomplishments of moving [up] and fighting a real bigger man. He wants to fight the bigger man. He wants to be the underdog in the fight.
"Taking those things away – it’s very difficult to ever see him as the underdog in a fight – but taking those things away leaves so many advantages to Dmitry Bivol in this fight. That’s why you have to respect the man. This is a real fight on May 7."
I could see Canelo fighting Usyk, AJ or Fury, although I think Usyk and Fury are very, very wrong for Canelo.
Maybe if AJ will get his titles back I could see Canelo fighting him after he unifies at 175.
But lets not look pass over Bivol-who is a top notch and probably the best lhw.

Will be used to spar.

I don’t think that sparring the 34½ year old Oleksandr Gvozdyk will help Canelo much, because the Ukrainian hasn’t won a fight within the last three years and has been inactive for the last 2½ years.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑12 Apr 2022, 03:36 So I just read that Canelo has brought in Oleksandr Gvozdyk to the training camp.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk originally quit boxing, because he lost his appetite for the sport, and one has to assume that inflicting terrible life-changing injuries on Adonis Stevenson and getting stopped by Artur Beterbiev must have also influenced that decision.

While the Ukrainian is stylistically different from Bivol, Gvozdyk’s size, power, and reliance on using distance and straight punches should make him a more-than-adequate sparring partner for Alvarez. As a professional, “The Nail” rarely went the distance in his bouts.
“Canelo always shows that he’s capable of taking [hard] punches against Triple G (Golovkin),” Gvozdyk told FightHubTV in January. “Beterbiev, he’s strong, he’s coming forward. In my opinion, he is underestimated as a boxer and overestimated as a puncher. This is my opinion. I fought the guy. But don’t get me wrong. He hits really hard. But you can stand those punches.
“But I think Canelo definitely will be able to stand those punches. Canelo’s skills, canelo’s defense, elusiveness, I think those will be crucial in their fight.”

Y’all overlooking Bivol. This will be the first time Canelo is facing an opponent that has an actual of winning the fight since GGG 2. That was 4yrs ago. Y’all saw how Canelo struggled with a 36yr old Kovalev’s jab. Bivol has one of the best jabs at 175 and not only that, Bivol also has one of the best gas tanks too.

According to the official BoxRec Canelo vs. Kovalev voting poll, only 54% of voters expected the Mexican to beat the Russian.

Indeed we should not overlook a prime fully fledged 175lbs Bivol who boxed Smith, Pascal, Barrera and Chilemba. Also Bivol would be very motivated in this fight to put a good performance against the face of boxing in Canelo.

True, if Canelo wins this convincingly, for me he'll ultimately become inarguable p4p leader.668907 wrote: ↑12 Apr 2022, 07:16 Y’all overlooking Bivol. According to the current state of the voting poll, only 57% of voters expect Canelo to defeat Bivol.
That’s an important statistic, which will be an interesting percentage to cite when we finally know the outcome of this fight.
I’m wondering if history repeats itself.

Polls from this forum involving Canelo usually consider him as only being a slight favourite.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 12:16What history EO?Enlightened-One wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 12:04 According to the current state of the voting poll, only 57% of voters expect Canelo to defeat Bivol.

But when he wins, people claim his opponents were rubbish and that he either cherry-picked a past-his-prime fighter or an opponent that was never that good in the first place.
For instance: Sergey Kovalev.
It’s the 180 degree U-turn in perceptions that intrigues me.

CANELO BY 'CONTROVERSIAL' DECISION. i would hate to see that.
or the judges fabricate an undeserved draw and then they grant bivol a rematch. just to fornicate him over for good.
i hope nothing of the above happens but i guess the corruption money machine is all set to go.
i just can't see canelo outboxing bivol.
maybe he really catches the russian with one brutal equalizer, nothing to complain then.
may the better man win. fair & square.

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Dimitry Bivol | DAZN PPV - May 7, 2022
I picked Bivol to win because he is naturally bigger and a good boxer. A lot of his opposition has been crap, particularly when compared to Canelo’s, so it’s always tough to judge someone beforehand when they step up. If Canelo handles him easily I’ll definitely be impressed, the same way I was when he whitewashed Smith

I doubt Bivol significantly outweights canelo. Id say they will be within a few pounds of each other, The fact Bivol offered to take the fight at 168 suggests he makes 175 very very easily.
