How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
With Fury claiming to be retired how quick should things move?
-When should the WBC vacant belt be called?
-Should AJ vs Usyk be for the Ring belt?
-Will AJ vs Usyk be the start of the new Lineal title lineage?

Call his bluff and give him a week to decide,so many fighters will never get a deserved chance because of things like this

Knowing the WBC, they probably wait 6 months plus.
This was a very long overdue mandatory.
He wouldn’t be another in at least 12 months.
He can sit on it for all he cares.. WBC will try to bank o the fact that he’ll stay.
Unless he vacates himself.

If you were a top contender it's easy to see why they give up,one of the issues with boxing that really grates on meRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Apr 2022, 06:02 Knowing the WBC, they probably wait 6 months plus.

Will have to stay in WBC clean testing pool then wont he... thats when you know if the retirements real when he gets out of testing pools.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Apr 2022, 06:02 Knowing the WBC, they probably wait 6 months plus.

If im wilder im calling for my shot ASAP. If im eddie/AJ/Usyk im lobbying the ring to get it on the line. nothing happens on its own but i wonder how much pressure guys can put on.
Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
I would say 6 months then promote him to champion emeritus status for another 6 months...then out of the rankings.
It's actually one of the areas that gets overlooked imo to Super Joes claim to being a two weight world champion. Hopkins announced his retirement and had fought twice in two years and no official belt was on the line when he fought Joe. There was by the time he fought Hopkins some very good belt holders.
It's a good question though Ali was officially a world champion in 1979 even though he told everyone he was retired in 1978. Lennox Lewis was a world champion close to a year after his last defence. I also think Hagler was a world champion on paper in 1988 as all the belts were not on the line vs Leonard.

Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
Last time he got about a week before the IBF stripped him because he wouldn't face his mandatory after retiring didn't he? May be remembering that slightly wrong because Wlad triggered the rematch clause.
I agree with other posters. Call his bluff, get him to confirm with them whether he will retire, give him a couple of months. Make a decision and move on.
Over those few months eliminators between the following guys could start to establish the new number one contender in a year's time or two contenders for the vacant belt later in the year: Wilder, Whyte, Joyce, Parker, Sanchez and Ruiz.
If Fury retires then AJ Vs Usyk 2 should then definitely be for the Ring belt as they will quite comfortably be the 1&2 in the division. In terms of lineal, I think either when all the belts get unified or if the AJ/Usyk winner reigned supreme for a while longer knocking off a few more defences while the WBC belt gets passed around.

The ibf are completely different. The WBC are on a percentage. Of 41m.... they aren't rushing Tyson....

When Fury fought Klitschko, Klitschko had a rematch clause in the contract. If Klitschko had won then he would have just fought his IBF mandatory in Glazkov.joshj909 wrote: ↑27 Apr 2022, 06:50 Last time he got about a week before the IBF stripped him because he wouldn't face his mandatory after retiring didn't he? When it became clear that Klitschko was exercising the rematch Team Fury could have applied for an exemption (given Klitschko was a long reigning champ etc) from the immediate mandatory or they could have looked to pay Glazkov a step aside. They did neither so Fury was stripped.
I’d imagine if it were to happen with Bob and Frank around then it would have been sorted but perhaps Team Hennessy just missed it.

30 days. More than enough time,
Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
As soon as retirement is mentioned the fighter should be put on spot to make decision, the organisation should have number 1 and 2 contenders in line to fight and winner becomes champ unless the champion changes mind then he should fight number 1 contender.

This is my view. hate fake retirements. Once they say they are retireing, Id tell them they have a month to reconsider (always empotional after a big fight, let em settle down and have a think), and then after that start negotiation period for a vacant title... once that deal is made, whether its agreed or goes to purse bids, Id strip the champ.

Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
Probably is. Or maybe 90, if there's an argument for it.
Without naming names, certain athletes have ‘retired’ several times to cycle untested. From that point of view, your 30 makes good sense.
Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
If a mandatory is due then 3 months. If you don't accept the mandatory then stripped.
If no mandatory due then longer is fine, maybe 6 months.
On a side note governing bodies should never be on a % for sanctioning fees. No excuse for it being anything other than a flat rate.

If a guy retires, then I guess strip him within 30 days.
And let's just say this. This should be the END of us caring about all 4 belts. Because whether Fury "retires" or not, WHEN he comes back to fight Usyk or AJ whatever the case may be. Whether he has the WBC Belt or not, will anybody see that fight as anything but Undisputed?
This should be the ultimate proof that all these belts are f*cking bullsh*t, and we need to stop giving a sh*t about 'em.

Agreed, ditch them all allowing anyone to fight anyone without having permission of someone you pay to wear their belt.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Apr 2022, 13:33 If a guy retires, then I guess strip him within 30 days.

Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
Problem is casuals need world titles to tell them what fights to watch. Fuk it sucks. I feel there was a point when AJ was king that if AJ and Canelo simultaneously said fornicate the belts, or at least just picked a belt to say fuk this, the. There was a chance.
Unfortunately I think the 5 belt era may be closer than the 3 belt era....

Re: How quick should belts/titles move when someone "retires"?
Its a good question though - this is a bit of a point for me when it comes to recognising Joe Calzaghe as a two weight world champion. Hopkins also retired before the Joe fight and had only fought twice in 2 years and the belts had moved on.
