what's the right amount of boxing on a fight day for you
in fantasy world, each day there'd be tons of great boxing
but i find on the big fight days, when theres 'lots of good fights, it can actually be overwhelming, and exhausting making it through it all.
what's your 'right' amount of fights/cards to watch on a fight day

I card, 5 good even-ish fights a week and I’m happy.

Just one
I dont care about the nobodies like Gal Yafai defending against a cherry picked bum. Get to main event.
Mstchroom cards are full of that. "Three world title fights" ignoring the fact 2 of them are Hearns champs facing the easiest opponent available whi just about qualifies for a shit.
It was even worse when he had guys like Flannagan and McDonnell with belts.

Up to 5 worth watching if I'm watching on TV. 7 if I'm at the event. 2/3 if I'm watching the next morning

Great question.
I think it depends on the intrigue of the fight.
Like yesterday I tapped out after the Taylor fight but had it been Spence v Crawford late on I would have taken Pro plus and suffered for it later.
I figured Stevenson would UD Valdez to death so I was just went to sleep

Yeah - Olympic/Commonwealth Gold Medallist Gal Yafai (MBE) is a nobody.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑01 May 2022, 05:25 Just one

5 could be great, unless you get 5 drawn out decisions that have little action.
Tough to say. I'd like to see two or three really exciting/great matches.

It doesn’t matter though for Gal as he’s a nobody apparently.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑01 May 2022, 12:37 at least gal hasnt hanged round long for mismatches, the worst are when those babies drag on for a full 10 or 12
Re: what's the right amount of boxing on a fight day for you
I’d say 5 too. Maybe 6 with a one round heavyweight blow-out on the undercard.
3 different, good undercard bouts, a 12 rounder co-feature that could be a main event and a superfight.
Perfect.
Used to love those marathon Russian bills from 3-10 with Bunce & Lillis though.

3 good even fights of 10-12 rounds is perfect for me. I tend to get a bit pissed after that and I'll watch any old crap, which is pretty much what they are delivering on boxing shows now.

Just realised it's Kal Yafai I meant, not Gal Yafai.maverick23 wrote: ↑01 May 2022, 11:56Yeah - Olympic/Commonwealth Gold Medallist Gal Yafai (MBE) is a nobody.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑01 May 2022, 05:25 Just one

Doesn't matter? Do people care about Kal Yafai or look forward to his fights.
The answer is no. He's a nobody. He's boring and nobody thinks "hey, great, KalYafai is fighting today! I can't wait to see him.
My point is true. Who in the world cares about Khal Yafai defending his belt against Norbelto Jimenez (29-8) or David Cormona (21-6)
Get to the main event.
Absolutely nobody.

I don’t care about most fighters if they’re in against mismatched opponents. You put Kal in a competitive fight and I’ll be watching with interest.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑02 May 2022, 00:12Just realised it's Kal Yafai I meant, not Gal Yafai.maverick23 wrote: ↑01 May 2022, 11:56Yeah - Olympic/Commonwealth Gold Medallist Gal Yafai (MBE) is a nobody.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑01 May 2022, 05:25 Just one

Two separate cards with 3/4 competitive fights each seems about right for me if watching both in a row/on the same day. Tend to enjoy that more that over-saturating with tons of fights, complete mismatches etc.

Alot of the time, especially with Matchroom cards, the undercard fighters are put against mismatched opponents. Especially a few years ago, when we had like Terry Flanagan defending against the likes of Derry Mathews and Mzonke Fana on the undercards.
I mean, what is the point. I'd rather just have the main event than that garbage.
I do like when a cherry pick upsets the boat. Always happens with Mexican fghters.

Terry Flanagan wasn’t a Matchroom fighter. Those 2 fights you mentioned were Warren/Queensbury shows. The Matthews fight was a headline fight whilst the Fana one was an undercard job.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑02 May 2022, 06:51maverick23 wrote: ↑02 May 2022, 02:57I don’t care about most fighters if they’re in against mismatched opponents. Re: what's the right amount of boxing on a fight day for you
Wierd question.
I think boxing is borderline unwatchable at the moment.
It needs to be like the UFC, 8+ fights on a card and a similar production value, there's no reason not to have early prelims featuring debutants or 4-5 fight novices.
There needs to be much, much less time between fights. The sheer amount of punditry filler and adverts between fights, combined with garbage undercards has more or less killed my interest in boxing over the last 2 years.
Consider this;
1.fight card starting at 5pm, first fight a popular local lad to get the crowd in (Frank Buglioni type)
2. 3 or 4 prelim fights, 4-6 rounders.
3. 3 good undercard fights, 6-10 rounders
4. A co-main & a main events.
5. Maximum of 15 minute interval between fights,
And you might have something worth spending an evening watching.

Still shit world title fighters. British "world champions" love a bum defence.
Look at the records of so many British fighters---lot of soft defences on the undercard of shows.

Re: what's the right amount of boxing on a fight day for you
Yeah, I could watch competitive fights all day long, but we rarely get those. The worst cards are the ones like Bellew-Cleverly 2 which was hastily put together as a ‘stacked’ card for the casuals, but in reality was just a procession of one-sided glorified sparring sessions for a bunch of Matchroom names. And then when the main event turns out to be a complete dud, it does make you question why you’ve wasted hours of your life sat watching it all (especially if you paid 20 quid for it!).
Re: what's the right amount of boxing on a fight day for you
That depends on many factors: quality of matchups, plans on the weekend, state of mood/interests (sometimes I can be more into other hobbies instead of watching boxing, other times I watch fights more).
