Post by Enlightened-One »

"Andrade-Parker update"

Queensberry Promotions has officially postponed the May 21 clash between Demetrius Andrade and Zach Parker:

Queensberry Promotions have today been informed that Demetrius Andrade has sustained a shoulder injury which has forced him to withdraw from his scheduled interim WBO world super middleweight title tight with Zach Parker at Pride Park, Derby on May 21.

It is with great regret that the decision has been made to postpone the event until the extent of the injury is fully established. A further update will he released in the coming days with a revised fight date and information for ticket buyers.

Demetrius Andrade has only performed one mandatory defence of his WBO world middleweight title within the last 3½ years.

The WBO ordered Demetrius Andrade to perform a second mandatory defence against Zhanibek Alimkhanuly during November of last year, but the American flatly-refused to take that bout.

Surely Andrade can’t be allowed to retain ownership of his middleweight championship indefinitely?

Zach Parker became the mandatory challenger for the WBO’s world super middleweight championship 26 months ago when he defeated Rohan Murdock.

The Brit shouldn’t be forced to wait any longer for a title shot.

Top Rank and Queensberry Promotions have a long-established partnership with each other and the WBO, with both Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Zach Parker being their fighters.

They aren’t obliged to serve and protect Demetrius Andrade’s best interests.

Boo Boo’s business ties with Matchroom was supposed to be severed imminently (after the completion of the Zach Parker bout). He's essentially a promotional and network free agent.

I think Bob Arum and Fṛḁռk Wḁṛṛȅռ will try to coerce the WBO to agree to two things:

• Declare the victor of Zhanibek Alimkhanuly vs. Danny Dignum to become the WBO world middleweight champion
• Allow Zach Parker to face someone else for their interim WBO world super-middleweight championship

I could be wrong, but that’s how I expect things will pan out.

I don’t know whether Andrade’s injury is genuine or not, or perhaps a ploy to force Matchroom to come up with something “better” (as he still has one bout remaining with them).

Only time will tell.

It’s a world title fight, well interim. Surely Matchroom will be happy that Queensberry are paying and taken it off their hands.

Matchroom are still entitled to a cut right?

You mentioned the mandatory defence. Only one in 3 years, but it wasn’t 3 years ago was it?

Was two fights ago.

I guess we need to wait a couple days, see what else comes from this and then we can assume more as to what Frank/Bob etc will do.

Yes, you're right.

But Queensberry Promotions will probably prefer Zach Parker facing someone else.

Boo Boo is apparently entitled to 65% of the purse split.

Zach Parker has had to wait more than two years for his title shot.

Demetrius Andrade has only performed one mandatory defence of his WBO world middleweight title within the last 3½ years. This took place thirteen months ago against Liam Williams.

WBO champions are supposed to defend their straps every nine months, with one mandatory defence being performed annually.

Demetrius Andrade refused to perform a second mandatory defence of his WBO world middleweight title against Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

I don’t think that Matchroom want to promote Demetrius Andrade’s events.

They’ve recently tried to offload Boo Boo’s fights onto the PBC and Queensberry.

And I don’t think that Top Rank and Queensberry would like to promote events involving a free agent (like Demetrius Andrade) against their fighters (Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Zach Parker).

I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but Demetrius Andrade’s career is in a terrible place right now. And he can’t afford to keep ducking his world-rated rivals.
