What happened to Kenny Anderson?

Post by Woller »

I have just watched the fight between Kenny Anderson and Robin Reid. Reid got stopped in the fifth round and retired.
Kenny Anderson won the British Super Middleweight title, but simply dissapeared from the sport.

He was sick of the business side of the game. He left and started his own business and charity helping disadvantaged kids. They do outdoor activities and fundraisers etc. He works with one of my mates and is a diamond of a guy.

That's great to hear. Always enjoyed his fights. Felt he could have gone further in the game, but no point getting ripped off for it!

They fucked him over with the drug ban and all the rest of the shite that goes on behind scenes ruined it for him. He was defo British title level for sure, maybe he could have went further.

My mate runs a community centre for disadvantaged kids, he has a room with bags and does some classes now and then. He invited me up one day and didn’t tell me Anderson was going to be there. Definitely a good guy.

Glad to hear that he is doing well. He just went away after winning the title leaving no trace.

I always thought it was injury related? He gave Groves one hell of a fight if anyone hasn’t seen it, it’s worth watching.

That was one of Groves' finest wins IMO. He showed his metal in that fight :box:

I thought it was the drug fail that effectively ended his career.

I liked Kenny, good fighter.

Shame he left the sport when he did.

Didn't he have legal issues? I'm remembering something to do with him doing a geezer over with a hammer?

there was a bit of a kenny craze after the war with groves, but he never got momentum after that. british still a nice achievement though, wonder how far he couldve gone with more backing

btw browsing his am record i noticed kenny egan's name.........obviously an excellent am, but his pro career was weird

2 pro fights, both in uganda, 4 years apart. 1 of them was a draw with a pair of 60-60 scores in a 6 rounder :KO:

It's an intimate world. The guy he was accused of doing over (a long time ago now, and found not guilty) is a gangster associate of Mark Richardson who is a major dealer in Edinburgh and enemy of Tyson Fury and Daniel Kinahan's friend Robert Kelbie, who had a journalists' back stage pass to the Fury v Whyte fight and the Kell Brook Khan fight.

I know Robert. He’s related to BJS which is why he’s at the fights. Tyson stayed with him when he was up in Scotland they were out running together and eating out.

Isn't Kenny from a travelling background too, or have I misremembered?

Thanks for the clarification mate, I’m guessing the charges were publicised far better than the outcome. IE I never heard about the outcome

Not that I know of but I didn’t know Kenny until that time I mentioned but had heard a lot about him, mainly that he was a good guy. My best mate used to spar him a lot. The folk calling him a ‘headcase’ are the kind of folk who don’t get out much and don’t really know anyone in the boxing game. It’s a violent sport with people from violent areas so sometimes things happen. I know for a fact he helps kids who have a hard life and he does it for free, head cases don’t Live that kind of life.

I knew Robert from amateur boxing days. He’s not a drug dealer despite what the papers say, the stuff with Richo is because he gave him a leathering a couple times. He’s got a good size construction firm in the capital.

I asked my pal about it last night. Anderson is from a traveler background. He didn’t have a hammer the other guy did. He got a not guilty. The other guy is Davie Togher who is now doing a long sentence for guns and drugs. Kenny had a trial by media and his not guilty wasn’t the news that his charge was. Usual shite.

You are thinking of Barry Hughes. Alex Morrison was the older chap. Tommy will know more about Barry than I do.
