fair play, one of the best we have had during the last decade or so, wasn't afraid to fight anybody, his career could have been managed better but hopefully he's made a mint. I dont do Twitter, apparently some nobbers are saying he's doing it because he's ducking Benn.

Aye, I’ve always felt that.

Obviously he probably made a fair wedge but from a match making point of view it was a ridiculous fight to make from Kell’s people

kell was extremely talented, and even vs the elite p4p was landing with regularity. excellent timing and judgement of distance. was hanging right in there with top p4p guys. up on the cards vs craw, even with ggg, prob even with spence for 8 rounds. face just didnt hold up well enough to get past the line

aside from those fights, so much of his career he fought way below his level, but great way to end his career, battering his long time rival

now he can enjoy the bois in spain full time

I respect his decision, however I am disappointed cause I was looking forward to him fighting Benn or Eubank. Selfish of me I know, but the build up to those fights would have been great …..

There is a slight disappointment over Kell's career. He wasn't as active as he should have been in his peak, that would have cemented him as a ATG.
And taking on a peak GGG was brave but foolish. He never came right after that fight. GGG took something from him, as he did with most that got into the ring with him at that time.
Some very memorable fights, some of which he lost, but memorable all the same.
Great stuff Kell, for a time you were very special.

Brilliant fighter. Exciting to watch and didn’t duck anyone. Remember first hearing his name on this forum circa 2003 about a young kid from the Ingle gym that was going to go all the way. He had a fabulous career but I agree could have done more. Golovkin was ludicrous match-making looking back.

Brilliant career. Only lost to 3 all time greats & in all three he can rightfully claim he was nowhere near 100% going in.

I still think the Porter win is probably the best by a Brit on the road since Calzaghe beat Hopkins.

Yes he could’ve done better with the talent he had but he could’ve also done a lot worse. For a lad that grew up on a council estate alongside a lot of idiots he could’ve easily gone the other way & almost did on occasions.

That people describe some of his easy KO’s / shut out wins against European & fringe world level fighters as wins over ‘bums’ sums up how good he was & what expectations people had for him.

he never beat a top 10 fighter aside from porter did he? i definitely get why people were upset about a lot of his opposition, he obviously had the talent to put together a stronger record than he did

Here’s what he said,

“I needed the Khan fight, I needed to settle the grudge, the feud. There is no dark feeling left in me now, I think when you have been in the ring with someone it passes, it leaves you.

“Me and Amir said some words which were hateful in the build-up, but that’s what happens in boxing. But I respect him after the fight. He showed real heart in there.”

“Highs and lows, a rollercoaster, it’s been a long journey and all I’ve known,” he said. “I’ve been a world champion, and that night against Shawn Porter in California will live with me forever. As will my last fight with Amir. It’s not going to get better than that walk to the ring."

“It was my dream since I started boxing at the age of nine to be a world champion. It was a special night. I’ve been in the ring with Golovkin, Spence, Crawford, and I finally got my fight with Amir Khan. After that, I don't think I needed to go on anymore.”

Always glad to see a fighter retire with his brains in tact and pockets full of money . However part of me would of liked him to have ONE MORE just one more , and give that big headed little twerp Benn a lesson on what its like when your opponent is allowed to hit back

Yes he should have taken bigger fights in his prime, yes it was foolhardy taking on GGG.
But he has given us some really undissapointing fights, even when he eventually lost.
Vs Spence was a classic, GGG was exciting until the inevitable, he never shirked his mandatories thus deserved his belt, and did quite well against Crawford even though he was a few years outside his prime. And he took Porter's "0" in a watch through your fingers bloodbath!

Over 40 fights is a lot. Maybe as you said- 3 or 4 good ones, I would argue 5. That's actually pretty good for this day and age. The Porter fight was epic, Shawn just didn't know how to lose until Kell battered it into him
And Spence was edge of the seat material, Kell was one tough bastard to dislodge.
