Press Release

Former champions Mickey Bey (23-3-1, 11 KOs) and Tevin Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs) will square off at the Accra Sports Center in Ghana on May 21st. Bey vs. Farmer will be a ten-round lightweight bout airing live on pay-per-view, available at FarmervsBeyPPV.com. Farmer (pictured) is a former IBF 130-pound champion who has not fought since losing his title to Joseph Diaz in January 2020. Bey, a former IBF 135-pound champion, has not fought since losing to George Kambosos by split decision in December 2019. Kambosos went on to won the world lightweight championship.]

"I am excited this bout came together, it was a lot of hard work from both Tevin and myself, and we’re bringing world-class boxing to Africa” said Bey, who is making his return to the ring after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus. “This will be a global event that features elite fighters battling in a huge sporting venue that promises to provide an amazing atmosphere. Tevin is one of the best fighters I could face, and when other fights fell out for him, I jumped at the chance to fight him.

“This is big fight for both of us at this stage in our careers and I know what I need to do to make the most of this opportunity,” said Farmer. “I want to show the world the type of warrior I still am and that I have a lot of fight left in me. This is going to be a tough fight, but I will come out on top.”

Bey's last fight was against current undisputed lightweight world champion George Kambosos Jr. (20-0, 10 KOs), a split decision loss that took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City in December of 2019. A lot of people felt Bey won that fight. Bey feels revived after the long layoff and promises to be in tremendous shape going into the Farmer fight.

"This is my chance to show everyone that I am one of the best fighters in the world," continued Bey, who trains in Las Vegas. "I would love to get my rematch with Kambosos Jr. one day and putting on a great performance against Tevin Farmer lays the groundwork for me to be able to get that fight in the future. I've been training hard and I'll be in the best shape of my career."

Farmer, who in his last fight lost a close unanimous decision to Joseph Diaz (32-2-1, 15 KOs) back in January of 2020, believes he can make another run toward a world title with a victory against Bey.

“A win against Mickey Bey will put me right back in the mix to fight for a world title at lightweight,” Farmer concluded. “Everything is riding on this bout, and I can’t wait to get in the ring and do what I do best and that’s fight. We both got our backs against the wall so this makes for a great night of boxing, and I assure you, this will be a war.”

I will always remember Micky Bey as a guy who was winning over John Molina before he went to idiotic showboating and Molina then punched his sould out of Beys body. Felt sorry for Bay, but seeing faces of TBE fans including TBE himself was priceless then

MICKEY BEY AND TEVIN FARMER WILL MEET IN A UNIQUE SETUP IN DUBAI ON MAY 21

Mickey Bey once held the IBF lightweight title. Tevin Farmer once held the IBF junior lightweight title. Bey hasn’t fought since he dropped a split-decision to current lightweight world champion George Kambosos in 2019. Farmer hasn’t fought since he lost the IBF junior lightweight belt to Jo Jo Diaz in 2020.

So, naturally, since the pair don’t have dance partners lining up to fight either of them, they decided on their own to fight each other, a 10-round lightweight bout on May 21 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.

What’s unique is that Bey (23-3-1, 11 knockouts) and Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs) set this up themselves. They cut out, for the most part, the middlemen.

Bey, 38, knows the end is near. What this fight may do is set up where the next phase of his life heads. If he wins, he feels, he’s still a viable 135-pounder. If he losses, he can segue right into where his future may be as a trainer and fight promoter.

“This would be so good of a win for me, and I’ll surprise people with how good I look, because I take care of myself, but if I win, I would fight two, three more times at the most,” said Bey, who has worked with and trained Devin Haney. “Tevin and I are showing everybody fights can be made. Every fighter needs to think about what they’re going to do after their careers are over.

“Enough fighters don’t do that. That’s the lane I really want to be in after my career is over, on the promotional side of things or in an advisory lane and help fighters out on that end, more so than even training. I think a lot of fighters out there across the world need help on getting better counsel when it comes to making the right decisions.”

Bey and Farmer made this fight after it came up on social media from former lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez, who thought Farmer should fight Haney. Bey thought Haney was too much for Farmer, but he volunteered himself to fight Farmer. Bey wound up getting in touch with one of Farmer’s people, they began talking, and through some contacts in Ghana, got a venue and made pay-per-view available at FarmervsBeyPPV.com.

“I have friends in different places and we actually Coca-Cola as one of our sponsors, and we’re all investing in it,” Bey said. “We got a couple of other sponsors involved, too, now. This could be a move made towards the future. I’m willing to work with anyone. It’s a small PPV ($25.99) and maybe we can start out something new. Who knows what fighters can do when they speak up?

“I’m a focused person. I get my training in and run my businesses here in Las Vegas. We’re getting help on the side. This is borderline crazy. I’m almost 39 and come back and beat Farmer. Tevin needs this fight as well. We just added (former WBO junior featherweight titlist) Isaac Dogboe to the card. Let’s what happens here.”

The day before the fight will be a concert.

Bey had one set of grandparents grow up with Don King. His other grandparents grew up with Al Haymon. Those two men are Bey’s inspiration.

“Boxing is the best worldwide sport there is and it just needs a few tweaks to get right back up there again,” Bey said. “Tevin and I created this. I want to spread idea everywhere. We need to get the younger fighters on the same page. We can make sure we give the fans a bang for the buck.”

“Due to COVID restrictions, we had to move our fight from Ghana Africa to Dubai,” said Bey. “We still have a fantastic card in place with a lot of United States fighters that have just been added. Tevin and I plan to put on a great show and the winner is right back in the mix to fight for a world title. Dubai has been having a lot of big boxing events lately. Floyd Mayweather is fighting in Dubai the weekend before my fight, which gives you an indication on how big boxing is going to be in that region.”

Tevin Farmer vs. Mickey Bey Postponed Due to Passing Of UAE President

Another show in Dubai is placed on hold due to circumstances well beyond the control of anyone in the sport.

The unfortunate passing of United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of The United Arab Emirates has created a ripple effect in the boxing world. The latest fallout comes in the postponement of the planned lightweight bout between former titlists Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey, which was previously due to take place this Saturday at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.

"On Behalf of the Organizers Bigger than Life Sports, Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey of Bey Brothers Promotions, we want to give our condolences to all of the people of Dubai (UAE) on the passing of their great leader," event promoter E.Jay Matthews of Bigger Than Life Sports noted in a statement Tuesday. "This delay will only build this great event even more, and Tevin and Mickey will continue to train as we reschedule."

The postponement comes on the heels of Hall of Fame former five-division titlist Floyd Mayweather having to cancel his planned exhibition bout with 'Dangerous' Don Moore which was due to take place last Saturday on a helipad atop the luxurious Burj Al-Arab Hotel in Dubai. The event was shut down last Friday upon the sudden passing of Sheikh Khalifa at age 73. Muslim tradition calls for a three-day mourning upon the passing of a member of the Islamic community, which immediately affected Mayweather-Moore and now the planned clash between Farmer and Bey one week later.

Ironically, Farmer-Bey was moved to Dubai after previously being scheduled to take place on the same day in Accra, Ghana. The relocation of the event resulted in the dropout of former junior featherweight titlist Isaac Dogboe, who was due to appear in the co-feature.

The passing of Shiekh Khalifa now leaves Farmer and Bey without a fight altogether—at least for the moment.

"Like we have been saying since we announced the fight, it will [still] be a great event," said Matthews. "We were originally supposed to have the show in Ghana, but because of changing Covid restrictions, we moved the fight to Dubai (UAE).

"The people of Dubai have been terrific to work with, and it is heartbreaking for the people of this country to mourn the loss of their leader."

Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs) has not fought since a twelve-round, unanimous decision defeat to Joseph 'JoJo' Diaz to end his IBF junior lightweight title reign in January 2020. The Philadelphia-bred southpaw made four successful defenses prior to that point dating back to his August 2018 vacant title win over Billy Dib.

Bey (23-3-1, 11 KOs) has been out of the ring since a narrow split decision defeat to George Kambosos Jr. in December 2019. The setback has aged remarkably well, with Kambosos going on to capture the lineal/WBA/IBF/WBO lightweight championship after dethroning unbeaten Teofimo Lopez Jr. (16-1, 12 KOs) last November at Madison Square Garden Hulu Theater in New York City.

Kambosos will next face WBC lightweight titlist Devin Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) in an undisputed championship on June 4 in Melbourne, Australia. Haney was previously trained by Bey for his past several title defenses.

A rescheduled date for Farmer-Bey was not made available as this goes to publish, nor was information on ticket refunds.

This is the craziest thing that I’ve ever seen. So they proceeded with 4 undercard bouts and then called it due to lack of funding? I’ve never heard of anything like this happening in my life.

That's crazy that Mickey Bey is still around, because when I made my pro debut for TKO promotions he was the headliner on that card in 2010. 13 years later he's still going at it to my surprise.
