"Russian boxing star faces ‘difficult’ task to secure Canelo purse"

Sanctions have complicated Dmitry Bivol receiving his purse after defeating Canelo Alvarez

Dmitry Bivol might be on top of the world after becoming just the second man to defeat all-time great Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas last Saturday night – but the undefeated Russian boxer isn't quite sure when his bank account will reflect his career-defining win.

Bivol, 31, won a razor-thin decision against multiple-weight world champion Canelo in what was the latest defense of his WBA (Super) light-heavyweight title. Media reports have indicated that the Russian was awarded with his highest payday to date of around $5 million, even if that is a sum which pales in comparison to the reported $53 million that Canelo earned in the 12-round fight.

But sanctions placed on Russia by the international community in the wake of the country's military campaign in Ukraine has led to several issues as it related to the international transfer of funds – and this means that Bivol remains unsure as to when his winnings will arrive.

“I think it's very difficult,” said Bivol in an interview with TASS in the days after his win.

“I haven't faced this challenge yet because it hasn't arrived yet.

“We will still think about how to do it. We didn't think ahead because the situation is changing rapidly.”

Bivol added that he has charged members of his team with navigating the financial mire in which he finds himself.

“I didn't even think about it and said to my manager: 'Vadim [Kornilov], come on, this will be your headache.'”

Thoughts?

I really like Dmitry Bivol.

He comes across as a really nice guy and he’s obviously a fantastic (previously underrated) fighter.

I really do hope he manages to receive his purse soon.

But the problem is, many wealthy Russian’s are having their assets in the West frozen due to the situation in the Ukraine.

And unfortunately for some of these people, even if they don’t have any influence over what occurs in the Ukraine, they won’t see all of their assets being returned back to them.

I hope this doesn’t happen with Dmitry Bivol.

There are obviously consequences to this situation.

Even if Dmitry Bivol has signed an immediate rematch clause, I don’t think he should even consider honouring his contractual obligation until he receives his purse from their first fight.

Frankly the situation is a disgusting example of double standards.

Where was the international outcry or economic sanctions when the US invaded Iraq, Afghanistan and Lybia to grab their oil?

There wasn't any.

This "Russia" situation is really World War 3 in all but name as the western banks attempt to get their hands on Russian assets.

It's certainly already an economic and military war.

Let's hope it doesn't go nuclear.

So, you no longer think Bivol is a borderline hypejob?

I'm surprised they didn't have this issue worked out before the fight took place. If somebody owed me a few Million dollars for a job I did for the world to see, and I didn't get it. There'd be some people going missing.

Excactly! Especially after it was revealed that the reasons for the invasions were completely bogus…..the USA is the most dangerous threat to global stability. Going around stamping its feet on any country that dares challenge its control of oil and other resources. Let’s not forget Syria and the grotesque ‘axis of evil narrative…..

Grotesque, absolutely grotesque. I was afraid something like this would happen when I read that Klitschko petitioned that this fight not get sanctioned because of Russia/Ukraine. This is theft, and no one should be behind this treatment of anyone who went to foreign soil, did work, and earned their money. He more than deserves his pay! :brick:

Blatant MSM censorship is a huge issue these days.

The BLM riots and the Plandemic hardly happened of their own accord did they? Yet so little mention of the puppet masters in the media.

There might even be some here who are unfamiliar with the antics of messrs Gates, Fauci, Soros, Schwab etc.

They may be unfamiliar with the existence of global corporations such as BlackRock or Vanguard, the likes of which ultimately own virtually everything.

Yes, everything.

That will naturally enough include tech giants and search engines.

Just try finding an unbiased web browser or search engine.

Or one that doesn't track your every waking moment, or your every action online.

The words Google and Facebook are virtually a synonym for evil these days.

Why do people think there's been such a controversy over Elon Musk taking control over Twitter?

It's simply appalling that the UK has sent over £1 billion in aid to Ukraine whilst some people here are scared to turn their heating on.

As for Germany selling weapons to both sides in the war...what more can be said?

Sounds a lot like the media in the US. Even former presidents aren't above being shut down. Might be worse here, actually.

It isn't, stop talking rubbish.

Journalists In Russia are thrown in jail If they push too hard.

Trump was banned on twitter, not from national media. He was banned after incitinb sedition against the duly elected government.

You need to acquire some perspective.

Point of order, if you're throwing the t word around: Manning's torture was, in my understanding, a matter of definition. Someone basically just asserted that the arrest itself constituted torture.

He was tortured. You try to be held in solitary confinement for several months. Do it. See how difficult it is to stay sane after that.

Having read about the case, it appears that there were sleep deprivation and other methods used. perhaps to weaken them pre trial and make them less able to perform on the stand.

However, in Russia they'd have been disappeared or killed.
