Seems an obvious Hunter win. I know he had a bad night last time out but I'm going to assume he has a legitimate excuse for that one.

Interesting you think that. I think hugie dominates him to a 10-2 type decision or late stoppage...Billy Tully wrote: ↑15 May 2022, 03:37 Seems an obvious Hunter win. I know he had a bad night last time out but I'm going to assume he has a legitimate excuse for that one.
I like fights where different people can think different fighters should be the clear favorite.

it's a well timed cherry pick for hughie. short scrappy guy without much power who looked miserable last fight, but has a decent reputation from results a couple years ago. they'll prob say he's still a top 10 heavy.
it has boring ugly hughie decision all over it...he should be able to fiddle him around enough outside to win

I just think he'll know he has nothing in front of him and fight aggressively, which will put Hughie in his shell. Hunter isn't an old, fat, dead Sam Peter. Viewing Hughie and Hunter's fights with Povetkin illustrates which party has balls and which one doesn't.gregregegg wrote: ↑15 May 2022, 03:56Interesting you think that. mmm, i know that comparision exisits. but i think hunter has regressed a bit, and think hughie has filled in and is willing to sit on shots a bit more now. hughie has lost a bit of his backfoot slickness but looks bigger and stronger... (very much like a C grade tyson Fury). should be too big, too strong, too smart, for hunter i think.Billy Tully wrote: ↑15 May 2022, 17:42I just think he'll know he has nothing in front of him and fight aggressively, which will put Hughie in his shell. mate, I belive everything peter says, man stregnth included... be hard to go from 25 to 27, put on 20lbs and not gain some stregnth..... now will he use it for punching or hugging, the jury is out.
I also belive everything billy nelson says, i still dont know what was wrong with bakoli that hunter fight, but i belive it.

i hope he's gotten stronger and more aggressive. he's maybe my least fave heavy to watch. he's obviously got some skill to him but he just goes about things in a way to drains the fun
if he gets in control of this fight hopefully he will try putting more oomph into hunter

Hunter hasn't got a prayer in this one.
Hughie gets stronger every day and by now is undoubtedly one of the strongest boxers on the circuit.
I'm going Shades to hug his way tona points win. 100%

Re: Hughie Fury vs. Michael Hunter | Sky Sports - 2 July 2022
Michael Hunter lands bigger payday than Hughie Fury for WBA heavyweight title eliminator
Michael Hunter is set to land a bigger purse than Hughie Fury when the two heavyweights collide in a WBA world title eliminator in Manchester on July 2. Although a venue is still to be confirmed, Express Sport understands both fighters have now signed the fight contracts with an announcement expected imminently.
The bout will be promoted by BOXXER's Ben Shalom, headlining a stacked card that will be broadcasted live on Sky Sports as the pair seek to move closer towards world honours.
Despite being the away fighter, Hunter is considered the A-side and will net close to £440,000 ($550,000) from his lucrative purse, per sources.
The Bounty Hunter, who is a free agent following his split from Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing in the summer of 2020, has also received assurances of a potential promotional contract with BOXXER - should he reign supreme.
Yet Hunter's purse is likely to cause a stir with 27-year-old Fury, the younger cousin of WBC and Ring Magazine World Champion Tyson Fury, set to earn less than his opponent.
Nonetheless, both fighters can force their way into world title reckoning with victory and the winner is set to face whoever prevails from Daniel Dubois' WBA interim title fight with Trevor Bryan in Miami on June 11.
Hunter, 21-1-2, has previously boxed on English shores when he successfully stopped Martin Bakole in October 2018 at York Hall.
The 33-year-old's career has undeniably stagnated since his split from Matchroom, however, and he will have to raise the bar following a disappointing showing last time out in his split decision draw with Jerry Forrest in December when he was captured vomiting in between rounds.
Having previously shared the ring with pound-for-pound great Oleksandr Usyk in 2017, Hunter is not short of big-fight experience and was unfortunate not to come out on top in a pulsating draw with Alexander Povetkin on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Fury, 26-3, is out to continue his three-fight winning streak following his underwhelming defeat to the now-retired Russian veteran Povetkin in August 2019.
The Manchester fighter has struggled to prove he belongs at world level having also previously faced setbacks against Joseph Parker and Kubrat Pulev earlier in his career.
Shalom confirmed two weeks ago that terms had been agreed between the two fighters but the deal has now been formalised.
"That's an unbelievable fight," he told Boxing Social. "It's a 50/50 fight on paper and Fury is ready for that, he's been waiting for it.
"He was meant to fight Robert Helenius, that was what was ordered but Helenius didn't take it in the end.
"Michael Hunter is one of those fighters that we all know how good he is and he's never really reached the heights that we thought he could.
"Looking forward to that one in early July, it's a massive moment for Hughie."

Re: Hughie Fury vs. Michael Hunter | Sky Sports - 2 July 2022
The time between actual fight announcements and them taking place seems shorter now than ever. If this takes place early July then it’s 5 weeks this Saturday and no venue, no tickets on sale and no official announcement. Seems fairly common now to have fights/shows on 4/5 weeks notice.
I could swear it used to be 7/8 weeks minimum to help ticket sales.

They must have a venue set for this, just waiting for a formal announcement.

Well ha has tried..
World title shot against Parker In 2017.
IBF title eliminator vs. Pulev
loss to Povetkin, where a win could have opened more doors.
Every time he lost, he has to rebuild...
Just realised, his losses have come to boxers with their surname starting with 'P'..

It's absolutely crazy. I think it's partially been down to the Joshua fight uncertainty and the same for Fury, but it's not a great sign at all.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 May 2022, 10:36 The time between actual fight announcements and them taking place seems shorter now than ever. Yeah - I don’t think the AJ stuff helps but all the talk in the last month was July 23rd for that fight and Hughie wouldn’t be on the undercard for it so not too sure why that’d stop his fight being signed and announced.garethhop wrote: ↑24 May 2022, 11:03It's absolutely crazy. It’s across all the main promoters. c.5 weeks for the Cordina fight, 5 weeks for this, potentially 5/6 for the Parker/Joyce PPV that was semi announced a month ago. Given the seeming competition for dates you’d have thought it’s a big help to get shows announced at least 8-10 weeks out yet they’re all leaving it fairly late.

I do feel for Meaty Mick though. He took a big cash gamble in a deserted MEN Arena and thought it had paid off with a belt. And that's after Froch left him and Wazza was moving in on Tyson. Shades of alimony.
