Alejandra Ayala (Hannah Rankin's Opponent)

Post by jimmystone »

Anybody know for sure how this poor lass is getting on, I keep hearing mixed reports? The BBBofC put out a congratulatory tweet for Rankin but didn't mention Ayala's situation.

If you are old enough to remember the brouhaha following the Michael Watson tragedy it's terrible that Alejandra Ayala is barely getting a mention anywhere. There is a suggestion she is on the brink, and the fight passed by unnoticed. It's a cruel sport. Boxing PLC could be accused of keeping this quiet.

I posted on the Women's boxing thread the other day, hadn't been anything on here before then. Checked a few news sources in Spanish as well since then but I haven't found anything definitive about her condition

Was reported briefly that she’d passed away but that was corrected pretty quickly.
Last I heard was “stable” which doesn’t mean much when it comes to brain injuries I know so hopefully she fully recovers.

This thread is the first I’ve heard of it, sounds serious, hope she’s ok.

I wish Boxrec would bin the women’s board so we could discuss things properly on here. News like this doesn’t deserve to always be tucked away where no-one goes.

Another reason to keep quiet is because it's surely so questionable to give someone like her a world title shot

True. Stopped in two by Savannah Marshall in Savannah's third fight, only won once on the road against a girl on a run of nine straight defeats, and the only girl she has beaten with a winning record was in her twelfth fight, the girl was 2-0. It's a dire shame and I hope she gets better.

p.s. if this was Dillian Whyte, for example, in hospital, would the boxing 'media' not be camped outside the hospital, holding a vigil with their video cameras rolling, and discussing the rights and wrongs of boxing on TalkSport?

Why has this thread been moved? Disgraceful really, people need to be seeing this.

From the limited amount of information available it would appear Ayala is still fighting for her life.

This episode again highlights a few things that are questionable about boxing, not least how sanctioning bodies can permit fights that clearly appear mismatches of paper, and weight-manipulation. Rankin appeared significantly bigger than Ayala on fight night. These things must be addressed.

It's terrible for Rankin too, of course. It's not her fault. She did her job well.

I'm hearing Alejandra has improved and may be brought out of the induced coma within a few days. Let's hope that information is accurate and she survives and makes a good recovery.

Glad to read that, I hope she makes a full recovery.

With reservations I watched the fight last night, both the referee and her corner were amiss in letting her come out for the tenth, the poor girl was absolutely spent.
